Gary West
Nice to see 11 Squadron now one their very own T1 - half way down the page. UKAR thread
GrahamEM
Very nice and doesn't 3 Squadron colours stand out beautifully in poor weather ? the quality of Canon camera also has a lot to do with this.

J35 Draken
The 11Sqn T1 is an ex-17Sqn machine. Looks better in its current markings though!
Gary West
The 11Sqn T1 is an ex-17Sqn machine. I suppose that makes sense - 17 ( as the OEU) will start disappearing quite soon I would have thought. Their role must be almost fulfilled? XV107
Not sure - there are various weapons fits that still need to be cleared along with suggestions (i.e. completely unfounded but plausible rumours) that there may be some need to clear even more AG ordnance than had been first thought (CRV7, for instance). There don't seem to be any rumours about 17 folding in the near future. There were suggestions about 18 months ago (maybe longer) that it would fold into 41 Sqn when that took over the FJOEU role, with the 17 numberplate going to a new front-line Typhoon unit at Leuchars, possibly knocking 43 or 111 out of the running for re-equipping when the F3s go. That one Seems to have dropped off the rumour control radar recently, though. Edited February 25, 2008 by XV107
J35 Draken
Yeah I'd think so, well on the F2 and T1 anyways. Suppose they've still got to evaluate the FGR4 and T3.
Richard E
There's a coincidence, I was wondering over the weekend if 11 Squadron were operating a T-bird yet (must get out more), if so, how long before MA bring out decals for it. I suppose that makes sense - 17 ( as the OEU) will start disappearing quite soon I would have thought. Their role must be almost fulfilled? Not sure but if it's days are numbered can we assume that 41 Squadron will be acquiring a couple of airframes to support ongoing development? Jennings Heilig
Is it just me, or does it not look like if they spent decades, plus billions of taxpayer pounds/Euros to develop the Typhoon that they could have figured out a way not to have that exhaust come out at the wing root and make a big black smudge on the camo that they probably spent millions to develop? Would that have been asking too much? J
kstater94
With 3 (and now 11) using a T.1 (probably for proficiency training) do you think it will become likely that the other frontline units will follow the trend as they stand up? Just wondering Cheers! John

It's ZJ811. (And I'm not a numbercruncher before anyone says!) As other squadrons stand up they'll probably get twins sticks too, like 1 and 4 Sqn's having a Harrier T10/T12. I remember that one! it was marked up as "AZ" of 17 squadron the last I saw it! I hope to get over there some time this year. It would be very cool if I could get a chance to photograph it in it's new markings! Cheers! John Edited February 28, 2008 by kstater94
Armadillos
Its been some time now that XI Sqn has had a T-bird, first i noticed was in Jan i think. To start with i thought it was the last T-bird of the first batch but not sure where shes gone.

Bobski
Yeah I'd think so, well on the F2 and T1 anyways. Suppose they've still got to evaluate the FGR4 and T3. T.3s and FGR.4s are already in service and there are a couple in the linked photos - look for the PIRATE fairing just in front of the cockpit (the easy way of differentiating the T.3/FGR.4 from the earlier a/c). 17 Sqn do a lot of the work up to establish new tactics, integrate weapons etc. I think this one is quite interesting: 17 Sqn FGR.4 - I've not seen any Typhoons carrying unguided 1,000lb bombs before... kstater94
So Let me get this straight... If they get the PIRATE on the left side and they are single seaters, then they are now going to be called FGR.4's But if they are single seaters and DON'T have the PIRATE then they still go by the F.2 designation? and if the T.1's get the PIRATE then they are T.3's but if they don't then they remain T.1's? Just trying to keep up over on this side of the pond! Cheers! John
