Black Arrows & Blue Diamonds 72nd decals

Spoke to Mike Grant yesterday on the subject of decals for those two Hunter display teams and he mentioned the possibility of a limited run sheet covering 92 & 111 Sqn., depending on interest;

"...based on your enquiry and the interest on Britmodeller I may just produce a screen-printed sheet with 'Blue Diamonds' and 'Black Arrows' on it, in which case I'd release them in 1/72. Seventy-second scale decals do not sell well at all here in N. America, so this would be aimed more at the UK market and would be a fairly limited-run sheet. Think it would sell?"

So, who fancies a set for those Revell Hunter F.6s?

Go on, you know you want to...

Does Bugs Bunny eat carrots?

Here's a Blue Diamonds F6 I did earlier (using in part the old decals from Matchbox's T7)

However, this model is now in the paintshop stripped and ready for given the "Hunter on a pole" treatment (following and undercarriage failure!) and will be painted in shiney Black - so put me down for a sheet!!

AND as we are talking Black Arrows, it would be particularly nice to have the early "straight wing F6" markings i.e. with plain national markings minus white surround (though saying that I could use ordinary Modeldcal/Xtradecal/kit markings!). not sure as to what nose markings were worn on this scheme though - it may have been just the Union Flag...anyone have any decent photo's of this early scheme?

Did the Diamonds carry codes under the wings also what shade of blue did you use i`d like to take one out of the stash to pre-empt the decal sheet even if its not released there will be one ready to go.

Oops!! .. just realised that I posted a pic of the model before being finished!!

Ah well.....

The only serial's carried were 4" on the rear fuselage, these were in black - the aircraft's code letter was applied in 4" immediately above the fin flash - initially in black, and later in white (or originally in white and later in black?). The code was repearted in white on the nose gear door - not sure of The size at the moment but it was a lot larger.

No underwing serials were applied..

For this model I used Xtracolor Roundel Blue - which matches the official "Aircraft Blue" a bit better than official "Roundel Blue" (well, I think so anyway!)

I've also built one in 1/48th, and I used a Halfords rattle can...something like Fiat Blue - can't remember off hand, but I have the can at home somewhere!!

I'd be up for a set.

And while you are at it Mike, how about turning it into a sheet of British aerobatic teams - could then include such teams as the Blue Herons, Yellowjacks, Red Pelicans (with the AIrfix JP back)?

Is it just me or do we still need decent Red Arrows Hawk decals in 1/72nd and 1/48th? I have the Airfix kits in both scales and the TwoBobs 1/48th sheet which came free with Finescale Modeler a while back but each one has its problems. Anyway, with the RA Hawks now wearing Royal Air Force titles all the kit decals are out of date. Maybe Italeri will oblige with their new 1/48th Hawk?

In the meantime, I'm interested in Blue Diamonds and Black Arrows decals. Do people want full serial choices to build the entire team(s)?

All 22 Hunters? In a formation loop? Cool, put me down for a few sets!

As for the Reds, according to the Airfix catalogue, the 1/72 Hawk announced earlier is a new tool, and will include the current Red Arrows scheme with 'Royal Air Force' fuselage titling. The same scheme will also be included in a re-box of the 1/48th kit.

You could also add the Rough Diamonds onto a sheet of Aerobatic Hunters in any scale, I might be tempted by a sheet in 1/72 as that Revell Hunter looks a sweetie...must get me a magnifying lamp!

Being from N. America, I'd order a couple from wherever they're available.

Yep, I'd go for them in 1/72. I'd also like to see a selection of available serials on there too. That way more than one aircraft can be modelled...

I've always fancied making a display of them in the air!

Karl.

It'd be a good idea to include markings for the current Delta Jets 'Blue Diamond' - XL577, as seen here:

http://www.deltajets.com/aircraft.php?jet=xl577

She was never part of the real team but represents XL571 (though still wearing her correct serial). Happy to provide details of airframe/markings; we may be interested in buying a few sheets to sell in the Delta Jets shop. The guys did a lot of research into the markings so could be useful to talk to them too, PM me for contact details.

Blue Diamonds definitely, have been trying to win a Matchbox kit of the Hunter with these decals in for ages on ebay with zero success. I would rather just pay out for a decent decal sheet instead!

The Rough Diamonds have been included in decal sheets by Almark and Cutting Edge, the latter being more accurate.

Oh Yes,

1/72 would suit me fine ...... I have both these to produce, but lack of fist class decals has put the project on the backburner ..... although the Xtradecal Black Arrows sheet's fine.

Literally thread resurrection! Did this ever come to anything? I've just started a PJ Productions T.7 conversion and would love to do it in the Blue Diamonds scheme.
