  1. Hello everyone I was wondering if you have any recommendations on weathering or washes companies I have been looking at Acrylicos Vallejo VJ70183 "Rust, Stains & Streaking" Model Color Set, 17 ml (Pack of 😎 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00PGPY4B0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_i_VE9K79F4A1EXAP3NKX0R?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 does anyone know if this is any good?? also I’m using an iPhone how do you share photos?? I can’t find out how to do this. thanks lummy06
  2. I've very recently returned to the hobby after quite a while away and now starting to experiment with applying washes to tone down the paint work and hopefully highlight some of the recessed panel lines. Following the basic rule of 'oil based wash over acrylic varnish' and vice versa I'm unsure what colour the wash should be for a light grey aircraft, in this case a 1941 period Mitsubishi Zero, so can any one please advise? Regards Colin.
  3. I've bought some weathering washes which (so far) I've only used undiluted on one test project. I saw a video on YouTube which suggested you can dilute it with the matching solvent to get a less intense color. I'm going to be applying either this dark "multi-grey" shade or "multi-black" over top of Tamiya TS-81 "Royal Light Grey" and I'm not sure if I should use the dark grey wash or a heavily diluted black. This will be going on the Bandai 1/100000 Super Star Destroyer. Was wondering if anyone had any advice or insights on this as far as mixing ratio, tips, opinions, anything?
  4. So I have a question about mr color paints. Specifically Super clear iii, semi gloss and Matt varnishes. Are they acrylic paints, enamel paints or other like lacquer based (because they sure do stink!) - Can I paint them over say tamiya acrylic or a metallic enamel, or just the tamiya (which I have done). Secondly what can I paint over them once dry - would I need enamel or acrylic washes, because I have seen washes with x-20 enamel thinners used on top of the mr color varnish, as well as AK washes. Cheers
  5. Hi all. I've been thinking of purchasing the AK interactive NATO wash, but I'm curious to know if my Mig Thinner for Washes will work with it, considering the latter is for enamel washes (and Mig washes are a pain to locate) and the AK wash is enamel based. I'm hoping so, as this would avert the need for the AK thinner and let me use the cash for another product. But I'll defer to the expertise of others. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks Gaz
  6. Ultimate Washes Here we have two new washes from Ultimate Products. The Winter wash is completely new and can be used on both vehicles and groundwork. The liquid has very fine pigments and is quite watery, so will be good for adding a light distemper covering for a more weathered look or increasing the number of coats and giving a newly covered look. For groundwork it would give a good base on which a snow product could be added. The Dark Dirt, although not new has been re-formulated making it quite a bit darker and with a finer pigment. To use this product, the modeller just sprays or brushes the wash onto their model, wait for at least 30 minutes, then wipe of the excess with a damp cloth or paper towel, ensuring you wipe across the like of panel lines so as not to remove the wash from areas you wish to highlight. Conclusion As I haven’t had a chance to try these products out I will revise this review when I have. But from the quick look they do look like they will be very useful to all modellers. Another good point is that they have no smell to them whatsoever, great for those modellers who don’t have a dedicated modelling room.
  7. Hi fellow modellers. I have just used Future as a gloss coat for the first time. I normally use Enamel or Lacquer glosscoats that I would weather easily with acrylic/water based washes and chalk/pastel water sludges My question now is this...... With Future being acrylic .........what are my choices now for weathering????? Can I still use watered down acrylics or will that soften/remove the Future coat? Should I now used thinned enamels or oils for washes and panel lines. But what do I thin them with and clean them up with?? What about the pre-made stuff like Flory or Tamiya washes? Are they suitable for using on a Klear topcoat??? if so what can you safely clean them off with? I understand you shouldn't use ammonia based anything on Future to clean up (I believe) but is Isopropyl Alcohol or Methylated spirits okay. Is MicroSol and Micro Set still okay for settling decals that have been applied on a Future gloss coat Can you use water to clean up at all on a dried Furture Top coat or is that just not on. Any list of fluids/materials/thinning agents/weathering agents/solvents/aftermarket or specialist products etc that can be used safely for weathering and panel line highlights on a Future gloss coat would be greatly appreciated. Happy modelling everyone! Cheers Bruce
  8. I have been doing some reading on getting a competition finish to one's model. I fully understand the use of pre-shading and applying washes. However, my question is do you do one or the other or both?
