  1. Having a soft spot for all things Postwar Vickers aircraft, I thought I would try my hand at this Vacform model produced by Gene Hooker of USA, I think originally the moulds may of come from a Travel Agents desk model as the kit is not supplied with any props or wheels, but looking at the plans I have it looks quite accurate. This shall be a challenge as I intend to have the passenger doors open with scratch built steps, I shall be constructing the front part of the engines and making resin moulds from these, also the Aeroclub props are from the Britannia which will be modified, all the windows and doors will need cutting out, I am thinking of making the windows from clear resin, the only thing I shall need to find is some suitable wheels. Once I have constructed the basics such as the wings and such I can then add extra detail and start scribing Hopefully as this will be a challenge it will be painted BEA red square colours. The 4 photos below were taken from Carlos a memeber on Britmodeller and can be deleted at his request, as I did not take any photos showing how the vacform model looks straight from the box, but gives a good indication on how basic the model is and what work needs to be done to make it acceptable.
  2. Super article not long ago on how to find the centre of a circle, BUT how about making interior bulkheads/strengtheners or templates or contour guide for fuselage halves or large wings mainly for vac forms? One item recently in the forum showed an Airfix Bristol Superfreighter with a bulkhead towards the rear of the aircraft. Some parts removed from injection moulded aircraft weaken the fuselage at that point, but how to you strengthen the weakened area?? I use one of those DIY wire Contour gauges, and transfer the "rough squarish outline" to the plastic sheet, but feel there has to be a more accurate way of doing this................. Happy New Year to fellow Modellers on Britmodeller
  3. I thought I might start this build, Airways VC10 vacform, I was considering doing the military version, but keeping things Brooklands orientated I shall make this particular VC10 in BUA colours registration number G-ASIX, I might open one of the passenger doors and add some detail, I also have the Anigrand kit but will just take the wheels and make some resin copies, anyway it will not be a quick build but hopefully not as long as the Vanguard took me, I did visit Brooklands last month but could not get any photos of her as they were doing some major work on the wings and most of her was fenced off, but there is plenty to get me started, in the mean time if any one has photos that they have of G-ASIX in BUA colours or Caledonian would be much appreciated, http://www.airliners.net/photo/British-United-Airways/Vickers-VC10-Srs1103/0726123/L/&sid=d0da64434e0ee3037e3eb68c0ebb3f72
  4. This is my completed Gene Hooker Vacform 1/72 Vickers Vanguard, in BEA livery G-APEP, which has taken me a while to finish, and is the only model I have fully completed this year in 2014, I hope you like Build thread http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234924057-172-vickers-vanguard/
  5. This is the 1/72 Rareplane vacform OOP kit of the Gates Learjet C21-A The model is painted using Tamiya gloss white, black and silver and finished with Johnsons Klear. Although these aircraft were maintained to a high standard and very clean I used some artistic license and added minimal panel wash to the top and bottom surface of the wings and on the engine just to break up the white of the aircraft. Draw decals were used, although I found these were to big such as the stars and bars and the USAF insignia so instead raided my spares and found something of suitable size. All of the interior is scratch built including the undercarriage and entrance steps Crystal clear was used for the windows and navigation lights This particular aircraft is based at Scott Air Force Base USA Anyway I hope you like it Work in progress link http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234938341-172-rareplanes-vacform-gates-learjet-c21-a-finished/
  6. Having a small rest from building the Vickers Vanguard, I decided I needed something rather quicker to build so whipped this out of my stash which I have had for a few years which I bought on Ebay, the only problem is it did not come with a clear cockpit, so may have to resort in making a resin mould and casting a clear canopy, anyway I am going to build this kit with full interior, cabin door open, wing and tail flaps cut out etc, I am going to use TwoSix decals for this as well.
  7. The model shown is the 1/72 scale Aeroclub vacform Vickers Varsity T1. I have scratch built the landing flaps, aircraft interior, front wheel bay, all the aerials, access ladder and access door, added extra detail such as wind screen wipers and brake lines to the wheels. Airbrushed using Tamiya white, Xtracolor light aircraft grey and red, weathered using Promodeller wash and post shaded using charcoal crayons. This model represents the aircraft WF372 and was delivered to the RAF in 1951, and finally retired from No 6 Flying Training School at RAF Finningley, Yorkshire, in 1976 it spent the next 12 years at Sibson Airfield near Peterborough before being purchased by Brooklands Museum in September 1988 where it is now on public display.
