  1. Maverick's F/A-18E Super Hornet (03864) 1:48 Revell The Boeing F/A-18E Super Hornet is the second generation F/A-18 following on the the F/A-18C. The F/A-18E was developed from the original Hornet and while it may look alike its very much a new aircraft which is 25% bigger. The US Navy managed to keep the F/A-18 designation partly to make the US Congress believe it would be a low risk development from the original aircraft (not the first time in US Aviation this has happened). The new aircraft was ordered in 1992 with a first flight in 1995. The aircraft introduc

  3. I just found some photo's at Pinterest from this very interesting diorama: Touchdown // F/A - 18 F Super Hornet // Scale 1:32 Does anyone happen to be familiar with this diorama or know more about the building process? https://nl.pinterest.com/pin/193936327679216455/ Thanks.

  5. Hi all, Here's my latest build, finished a few weeks ago but with what's been going on around the UK, I've only just got my laptop out to put this on the forum, apologies for that. My build is the Trumpeter 1/32 F/A-18F kit with a few additions, Quick Boost seats, Aires cans and a compilation of kit and aftermarket decals (Galaxy Model decals). I wanted to build a slant on this workhorse and after looking around in some of my reference, I found a few pictures of the CAG bird with tanks and a refuel pod, seemed a natural progression from my 1/32 conversion of the A-6 to
  6. This is my 1/72 Academy MCP F/A-18F Super Hornet done up as a line jet from VFA-122 Flying Eagles. This is a much delayed surprise Xmas gift for my brother, an aerospace journalist in London, who in 2012 was lucky enough to be taken up for 30 mins in the back at the Farnborough airshow. A blog about it can be found here - n.b. his pilot was actually from VFA-106 Gladiators. The Academy kit was simple to assemble, v well detailed and largely pain free apart from the forward fuselage join just below the windshield and the rear fuselage of which the top half is too wide -

  9. Hi all. This is the 72nd scale F/A-18F built from the Hasegawa kit. It's dressed as A44-210 serving with 1 squadron with the Royal Australian Air Force while flying operational sorties in the Middle East. The extras are Quick boost seats, Attack Squadron ordnance and Ronin Decals. The tail art is for the 100th anniversary of 1 squadron, 1916-2016. Lovely model to build except the woefully shallow intakes and for the eagle eyed of you, the wing tip formation lights have been altered to represent a RAAF block jet. Hope you like it!
  10. Hi all, a new one onto the workbench...a RAAFie this time. Since Steve Evans from Ronin decals released these decals earlier in the year, I've been eager to build this kit. I did however have one small problem, I didn't have the kit I needed in the stash. Fast forward to a few weeks ago and I managed to score the kit with the right bits and pieces in it from a store here in the middle of Brisbane. So the plan is to turn this... into this…though just a smaller version in 72nd scale. The original kit of the 1/72 Hasegawa F

  12. Hello everyone, I'm seeing two colours on these Hornets. Are they the same colour under different lighting conditions or does the color marking toning down directive have anything to do with it? Any insight will be greatly appreciated.
  13. Hi Folks, Seems ages since I last posted....getting distracted with Facebook modelling sites I suppose. Here's my latest offering for what it's worth. A CAG super Hornet from Revell, OOB apart from a stick-on cockpit kit, and a Pavla canopy, as the original one was missing, built open as it didn't fit exactly. Nice build apart from the engine intakes. The large decals were difficult to bed down even with loads of microsol. .....and I've just noticed I left part of the ladder assembly off !! Constructive criticism welcome please
  14. Hi. This is my Aussie-Rhino, based on the quiet good 1:72 Hasegawa kit. I Aires seats and Eduard etched parts for the pit. The pilots are from Modern Hobbies, the only one with the right modern helmets I think. There was also a lot of scratch work as the lowered slats and flaps or the completely air intakes. Hope you like it. Daniel
  15. Hi all, Have a feeling that I have seen some pics somewhere of Super Hornets being used in the adversary role, and in nice camo schemes, and cannot for the life of me find them now and was wondering if any of you could point me in the right direction. Would also like to know if there are any decal sheets out there for them, or even legacy Hornets in 1/48. Thanks in advance. Craig.Insert other media

  18. Greetings all, for my first post I wanted to share two hornets in 1/72nd scale that I have slowly been progressing on. For the Tamiya super hornet I temporarily placed decals for VFA-106 just for fun until I can get some from twobobs as the kit decals are kinda lame IMHO. I have only been in the Modelling scene for a little over a year now and hope to learn anything I can to improve, also forgive me as I seem to have lost the photos I took of the build leading up to here. Please let me know what you all think. Cheers.
  19. I'm looking to recreate a 1/72 VFA-122 F/A-18F based on the Revell Super Hornet (its a gift for my brother who was lucky enough to have a ride in one at Farnbrough Airshow in 2012), however since I cannot find any decals for this squadron (except the sold-out CoNA digital camo scheme) can anyone either recommend an alternative (e.g. suitable USN letters and numbers) or is home printing the only solution...? Many thanks in advance, Neil
  20. Bought this kit from eBay over a year ago for $25NZD but since it's my holidays, I can finally build it!

  23. Hello one and all, There will be 3 builds in this thread. My logic being that all of the aircraft are near-enough the same (same moulds anyhow), so I am hoping to get them all done in a production line style... it'll probably fail epically tho. lol Right the EA-18G will be from VAQ-141 "Shadowhawks", the F-18 E will be VFA-31 (not the Revell version), and last but not least the F-18 F will be VFA-32 Swordsmen. On to the pictures. The Shadowhawks plane you can see in the background, I will be using the other airframe for the Swordsmen example. Here is the Tomcatters exam
  24. Hello, Here is my next project after the VFA-102 Super Hornet. I will use this boxing I am still unsure as to which markings I will apply but I will probably go for the "normal" markings as seen here or here rather than the flashy markings seem here Quite irritatingly Hasegawa provides the old-style ECS and ACS when both aircraft have the new-style items... The old style ECS provided in the box: Fortunately I received last week this AMAZING reference book: as well as this excellent item from RES-IM: so making the new ECS should not be so much of a problem. The ACS will be scratc
  25. F/A-18F Super Hornet ‘VFA-32 Swordsmen’ 1:72 Hasegawa Developed from the successful f-18 earlier derivatives, the single seat ‘E’ and two seat ‘F’ versions are despite looking very similar, quite different aircraft. Primarily designed to replace the Tomcat as a multi-role fighter, the E/F models have in fact replaced the F-14, A-6 Intruder, S-3 Viking with the G model replacing the EA-6B Prowler. Having such a simplified line up brings about obvious benefits for a fleet that has to be maintained whilst at sea. The ‘Super’ Hornet is about 20% larger than the original Hornet, nearly 7 tons
