since we have chat threads for "what have you last purchased?" and "what music are you playing?", I thought it would be interesting to talk about what we modellers are reading in the spare time between model building and real life Books, magazines, reference material, fiction, technical, ... anything is acceptable. So, just to kick start, I've been reading the Portuguese translation of Svetlana Aleksievitch's "Vrémia Second Hand" (original Russian title), which was translated to Portuguese as "O Fim do Homem Soviético - Um Tempo de Desencanto" and to English as "Second-Hand Time". It's a book about the end of the USSR (hence the title: The End of the Soviet Man), how was life in the Soviet Union and how it is now in the ex-Soviet Republics, especially in Russia. It's a tough and deeply tragic read but quite gripping. Highly recommended to anyone interested in History and in understanding the USSR and present-day Russia. Cheers Jaime
Hi All I have the old Tamiya 350th Bismarck plus PE and barrels which I intend to start work on later this year. Haven't been able to find anything definitive about the aerial rigging for Bismarck, but did find this book (available as a Kindle download, which would suit my purposes) :- Just wanted to know if it has reasonable drawings showing the rigging (all I really need the book for) and is therefore worth the purchase price of just under a tenner? Failing that, any suggestions as to a good source for the rigging layout would be appreciated. Many Thanks Kev
Hi folks. I'm in the process of building the Eduard Mirage IIIC as a Djibouti based jet in the sand/brown over blue scheme circa the early 80's. I've found a few photos on the net of general airframe photos taken from a distance but no real close ups that are at least of a good quality. Does any of the membership have photos of these jets and would be willing to share some? I've found a few around the web but not a lot of them fill the quota of detail shots. One other thing, I'm planning on arming it with 2 500L supersonic tanks and 2 AIM-9B Sidewinders. Is this a reasonable load out for this period and location? Thanks, Mick
Good evening everyone, I picked up a Trumpeter 1:72 Tu16k-10 (Badger C) recently and I was wondering if anyone had any pictures of the badger's bomb bay or cockpit. Preferably, I would like to know about colours- what colours should I use for the cockpit interior and the bomb bay interior? I'm planning on fitting it with the AS6 Kingfish missiles on the wing mounting points, with a variety of bombs inside the bomb bay- was this a typical loadout or was the aircraft purely fitted with anti-shipping missiles? Many thanks, Sam
