  1. Ouch! I see we’ve started!! (As has the Draken STGB that I signed up to). Well I originally said I thought I might do the Mighty Hunter, but common sense says that needs to wait till I have more time. Then this arrived in the post so I’m in with this. More to follow soon
  2. Hi. In 1948 Sweden purchased 50 Supermarine Spitfire PR.Mk.XIX from the Royal Air Force. The were in service until 1955 and were scraped after retirement. This is the nice little Airfix kit and the very nice decal sheet from Moose Republic Decals. The Spit was built oob, painted with Tamiya colors and only slightley weathered. Regards Daniel
  3. Hello, I have been musing with starting a Mk.IV Spitfire, namely BS491 used by No. 542 Sqn RAF at Gibraltar in 1943. I have some questions regarding this particular bird: What would be different inside from standard Mk.I/Mk.V cockpit Wing reinforcement strips - use them or remove them from kit? Antennae wires - which ones to use, if any? The mast is clearly visible on photos Kit instructions suggest it was overall PRU blue, while "On Target Profile No.8 - Photo recce Spitfires" states it was an "Unidentified Dark blue, possibly Dark Mediterranean blue"? Please take a look at photos I have managed to find (below), and give me any opinion on these matters? source: Site du 350ieme Squadron
  4. Hi all, Here's my just finished 1/72 Academy F-84G Thunderjet. I did it as a machine from Escadron de Reconnaissance Tactique 2/33 "Savoie", based at Cognac in the mid 50's. I added a recce pod on the left wing from Model Art. This was a converted Fletcher fuel tank as used on the T-33, to give the straight wing F-84's a basic recce capability. It was first used by the French, and found its way to other NATO Thunderjet users. Decals came from a Berna sheet. Painted with Vallejo Metal Color, Revell, ModelMaster and Tamiya paints. Thanks for looking, and I hope you like it. Pete
  5. I am looking for info on the recce fit of the Douglas F-3A Havoc. I want to start on my conversion of the AMT/ERTL 1/48 A-20J, and do a bird from the 155th Night Photo Sqn, 10th PRG. I plan to do either "Sleepy Time Gal" (preferred) or "Starize", using the AeroMaster decals. I did a search here on Britmodeller, but found nothing (Flaky search engine?). What I am looking for is info (Drawings/photos) of the camera fit & location, including the Edgerton Lamp (SP?). I have found some written info on the equipment fit, but not specific enough. I could either do the Edgerton fit, or load up the bomb bay with photoflash bombs, even though the latter would require much more scratch building/converting. I am also looking for confirmation of whether the plane would still have the upper gun turret, or a clear dome, or just faired over. If you have info, but don't want to post the photos/drawings online, you can email me direct at lengesath(AT)cox(DOT)net. Larry
  6. I recently picked up an Airfix 1/48 Jaguar GR3A/ES (Kit 07104) for a great price, as there were no decals. I have to decide which aftermarket decal set(s) to get. I read somewhere that the only Jaguar units to regularly use the recce pod were 2 Sqn & 41 Sqn, is that true? I want to make the kit as either a Gulf War bird that flew recce missions, and as such would have "camera" mission markings on the nose; or make it as one of the Jaguars that I downloaded film from, when I was stationed at Zweibrücken AB Germany (1980-1985). I was a Photo-Sensor Technician in the 26th Tac Recon Wing, and one of our jobs was to download the film from transient NATO recce aircraft (Cross Service Maintenance). A VERY interesting job on the Jaguar, lying on my back on the tarmac, so I could rotate the camera access door and download the film magazine. I am assuming that the Gulf War Jaguar would probably have been a GR3, while the NATO Jaguar in the '80-'85 time frame would probably have been a GR1, is that a correct assumption? Any suggestions as to mission load carried for either option, especially ECM pods and missiles? I see some decal options for the Gulf War jet at Hannants, but can't tell if there is anything for an 80s jet in NATO. I already have a Neomega cockpit set for it, but wonder if I need to get any aftermarket stores to replace the kit parts? I may attempt to scratch-build a ladder for it, based on the posts I have read. I have already seen the different WIPs and downloaded the pics & notes, to print out when I start on my model. Larry, in Florida
  7. Did the French AF use the RP36P recce pod on their Jaguar A's in Desert Storm? I want to scratch build an RP-36P recce pod for my Heller 1/48 Jaguar A, but I need to decide on which aircraft to build and what camo scheme to use on it. The only pics I have been able to find of Jaguar A's with the RP36P pod are taken at the 2003 Reconnaissance Meet at Florennes Belgium. Larry
  8. Hello I would like to ask some questions about those mentioned recce versions. I did search from my own references and from the net but if anyone have other opinions and knowledge. First, would anyone be able to help about 109G-4R-3 with two auxiliary fuel tanks on wings, how they were attached ? Did they have similar stubs like on those WGr.21 rocket launchers or rack or what ? I have found some pics but just would like to know if someone knows better and more. Also, what were those long things like pipes coming forward on those tanks ? Second, Pierre Clostermann describes on his book 'The Great Show', how he shoot down a recce 109 with two wing mounted drop tanks. I know that it was Ian Blair who made the claim and that the 109 was apparently 109G-6R-3 1.(F)/120 A6+XH flown by Quednay. Now the question, would the 109G-6 recce have used those auxiliary tanks ? Did G-8 use or could have been used similar tanks. I know that this is difficult but any info and output would be highly appreciated ? TIA Teemu Haajanen
  9. I am planning on converting my Marivox 1/72 FFVS J-22 kit into the S22-3 recce version. I have a profile on how to mark it, but I have no info on where the camera window was located (and its size/dimensions). I don't plan on scratch building a camera, but I would like to install a camera window. A Google search turned up nothing. Does anybody have any info on the size, shape & location of any camera window(s) for that version? Larry
