  1. Wheels: the chrome was stripped, primed (Mr. Surfacer 1000), basecoated (Mr. Color GX2), painted (AK Interactive Gunmetal) and clearcoated (Mr. Color GX100). After it was completely dry I began the assembly process. Big surprise: tires are messed up and don't fit. After talking to someone who had done this kit already he suggested using something to fill up the inside of the tire to force them into submission. I ended up filling the tires with pieces of 2x1 cable (soft enough not to deform the tire further, but strong enough to make the tire walls sit properly). The tread was sanded to remove the mould line and then the sidewalls were slightly buffed with (not joking) black shoe polish to hide some more manufacturing imperfections (they have glossy spots, darker spots...). The photo was taken right after application, after it dried up it became a lot more convincing to the eye.
  2. How do chaps. Back in July me and Mrs fatfingers went to the Yorkshire Wartime Experience near Bradford. Hundreds of military vehicles of all sorts and era's were present along with hundreds of re-enactors covering WW1. WW2 and the more modern conflicts. Loads of vehicles running in the arena and we had a ride in the turret of a Scorpion light tank which was the best £24.00 I've ever spent!!! Was also a fly past of a Spitfire (not sure of which type but it was shiny!) I spent quite sometime speaking with a WW2 German re-enactor. Handled an MG42 and also a Soviet SVT rifle, which was huge! The day ended with a battle between the Allies and the Germans (who lost incidentally but they take it in turns to win and lose apparently) My brother lives near Birstall and said that he could hear the explosions and gun fire!! We had a fantastic day out and came home thick with dust and stinking of Diesel fumes! Even Mrs fatfingers said that she really enjoyed it. Looking forward to next years show. Below in no particular order are a selection of the pics that I took during the course of the day.
  3. So i just got a Nikon D3300 and would like to do some (very) amateur airshow photography with it. I dont really have much money to spend and accept this is hardly enough to get a decent Lense but i was wondering if either of these lenses would work: Nikon 55-200mm VR - I know 200mm isn't widely considered enough, but with a crop sensor would it be enough for airshows at Duxford and Headcorn where the planes are fairly close? Sigma 70-300mm APO - I have heard the image quality is decent but the autofocus is a bit rubbish. has anyone had any success with this lense? I have looked at the Nikkor 55-300VR but i can't afford it really, as my max is about £130. If i really can't get ANYTHING good for that i may be able to stretch it a bit. Will
