    A Tale of Two Shops

Although we have two thread to do with dealers this falls between to two. For more years than I care of publicly admit I have been travelling to North Norfolk for holidays. Either caravanning or in a holiday let we owned.. For various reasons this ended a couple pf years ago so visit now tend to be one-offs. This was the case this week. When I started going to Sheringham my modelling needs tended to be met by the trader when worked out of the old W.H>Smiths bookstall on the North Norfolk Railway at Sheringham. There was also a shop called Auto-Loco. However their speciality seemed to be buying up job lots of old railway stuff etc, piling it in boxes on the floor, and selling it for rather high prices. More recently they seemed to renew their links with the Hornby Group and started stocking Humbrol and Airfux. However I never found the shop particularly easy to find anything in and the person behind the counter (owner?) was never that helpful and sometimes outright rude.. If you google Auto-Loco Sherinhngham you will get some links to posts on other Forum about this, This week on my visit, I found the shop closed, this was not unusual as another feature was odd opening hours, but there was a scrawled notice on the door saying business for sale and a mobile pone no. On the other hand just down the coast, in Cromer, there is a more recent shop called "Bouys Toys" which is well stocked and where the person behind the counter is most helpful. I don't know why Auto-Loco closed but I would have thought that there was a market for a well run model shop in Sheringham but whether the holiday market would sustain two model shops close to each other I don't know. It's always sad to see a model shop close but in the case of Auto-lOco I don't feel it was a good showcase for the hobby. Sorry did not take down the phone number in case any BM'ers wat to take on a model shop, of just increase their cash is random models.
