  1. Came across this stuff at Bunnings yesterday: I've had a quick look and for all intents it seems the same as Tamya tape; same feel, tack, paper etc. I bought this roll (36mm x 50m) and a second (24mm x 50m) for $10 to $15 each, so I figure it's abit cheaper than the Tamiya stuff. Will be using it in the next month or so, will let you know how it goes. Ciao
  2. Made a rookie mistake last night .... caught an unsealed decal with masking tape and ripped the decal. I've managed to fix it back in place so it can't be seen but I was kicking myself afterwards You live and learn as they say Just thought I'd vent incase anyone else wants to share any similar stories / mistakes
  3. Does anyone know the release dates for the new Humbrol products for 2014? In particular, I'm interested in the 3mm masking tape. As far as I can see, Hannants have no information about this on their site and I can't find anything on Humbrol's site either. Gordon McLaughlin
  4. I think I have made an important discovery about the use of Alclad. I don't think this has been commented on before as I did do a quick, but not exhaustive, search. I have been using various colours of Alclad recently and had a lot of problems with Tamiya masking tape pulling the Alclad off when demasking. There is also a related thread here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234926778-whats-the-best-thing-to-seal-alclad-before-masking/?hl=alclad What I have found is that Alclad, although touch drying almost instantly, needs an extended cure period to fully harden up, I think it is at least several days, possibly a week to be fully bullet proof against masking and masking tape removal. Once cured like this it seems to be a very adherent and robust finish. I hope other Alclad users find this information of some use and manage to avoid some of my disasters. Nigel
  5. We have just taken delivery of a new range of masking tapes and although we have had good reports on the quality we would like some more opinions. We are offering an introductory 33% discount until the end of October and this offer should also be available from any of our stockists. We will continue to offer the Tamiya masking tapes but hope that this will provide a high quality alternative. 6. Masking Tape Revell A roll of good quality masking tape is, alongside a scalpel, a pair of side cutters and a sanding stick, one of the essentials of a decent modelling toolkit. Whether used for masking sharp lines or filling in the gaps between blobs of blu-tak prior to airbrushing, a good quality roll of tape is virtually indispensible. Now Revell have produced their own masking tape aimed squarely at us modellers. The tape is very similar in appearance to that produced by a well known Japanese model kit manufacturer, although it is a slightly darker shade of yellow. The back of the packet also states that it is produced in Belgium rather than Japan. In all other respects, however, the tape appears to be very similar in terms of performance to the Japanese product. Two widths are available: 6mm and 10mm. Each role is 10 metres long. The rolls of tape are not currently supplied in a dispenser, but they will fit any empty dispenser that you happen to have laying around. Conclusion It’s always good to have a choice when it comes to modelling tools, so this new range from Revell is very welcome. The tape is easy to use, adheres very well and can be removed without leaving any adhesive residue. It has nice neat edges and should be suitable for masking very sharp lines. I’ll be using it for my forthcoming build review of Meng’s new F-102A and will update this review with some notes about how the tape performs in due course. Revell model kits are available from all good toy and model retailers. For further information visit
