After many years, I had this funny twinge. Eyes twiching, involuntary spasms & visions of mud, loads of weathering & tank tracks. So it all came to a head when I sent the scouts out to hunt me down a Tamiya 1/35 Leopard 2A6 at the Peterborough show. While I was doing the usual normal stuff like looking for appropriate 1/72 things with wings on Stuart found me the cure for my secret craving. A nice Tamiya 1/35 Leopard 2A6 for £25.00! Thankfully the previous owner had stashed away some photo etch & a replacement aluminium barrell. Now I do like tanky things but to me these Leopard 2A6's are how a tank should look, much like a Ford Granada Mk.II looks like a real car! Every car after 1985 just looked wrong. It was great fun to build, no proplems going together whatsoever & the moulding on the barrell halves were so good it looked as good if not better than the relacement gun barrell. For the paints I used Ammo Mig paints & for the weathering I used some washes & pigments from Ammo. I also added some wire to represent chains for the flare discharger caps & added some broom bristles for the whip arials. Like I say this is basically my first tank in about 40 years, so when it came to tackling the rubber tracks which came with the kit I wasn't sure if I should prime them first then paint & give them the wash treatment. I actually attacked them first with the Ammo Mig Tracks Wash first which dried into the rubber & gave it the base colour. I then went at them with Mig "Earth" then left that to partially dry & added some pigment to them. I finally sprayed an acrylic matt on the tracks to seal them in. Well it worked & looked fine to me! Weathering of the superstructure & the turret I used some panel line washes & some oil spot filtering. I'm not sure if I did too much or too little to be honest, but it didn't look too bad through the lens of the camera. Got a few more wingy projects to go through & at some point I will have to make a nice diorama base for it, later... Thanks for looking, now I've got to decide on another similar subject. I like modern heavy tracked vehicles & was looking at possibly doing the Ariete which does look similar to the Leopard. Martin

After two months of work, I'm happy to present my Tamiya Leopard 2A6 I bought this kit on a total whim. When I opened it a few months ago, I was indifferent to it. Typical Tamiya - nice sharp plastic parts, but pretty basic looking details. I eventually shaved off all of the plastic tabs representing grab handles and replaced them with wire. I doodled around with a few other details not really worth mentioning. I then started to paint and really took a liking to the kit. I have never built anything in NATO tri-color before, and it was a lot of fun to paint. The weathering I applied was a bit different for me. Typically, I apply dark stains to light paint. Here I had to do the inverse, with light sandy colors needed to stand out against the dark base colors. It was pretty challenging to get things balanced just right. Base paints are Tamiya thinned with MLT. Nearly all of the weathering is thing glaze coats of Tamiya paint and artists' oil. The caked on mud is a wet mud effects product from Vallejo, which I really liked. I'm still working on a figure, but I'd since the tank-proper is done, I figured I'd post a few shots. Also, I'm glad to be finished because almost every time I sat down to work on this beast, this song would get in my head 😄 😄 😄 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5es5MQX0VVA&feature=youtu.be

This is my most recent project. The Hobby Boss Leopard 2A6M, depicted as a troop commander of Lord Strathcona's Horse (Royal Canadians) post Afghanistan. With a little Accurate Armour & Live Resin added, and an unknown commander from the spares box. The tanks came from the German army and featured better air con and more armoured stowage for the crew's kit. They were originally in the 3 colour NATO camouflage but are being repainted into standard Canadian green. The pictures don't show it to well but there is some tonal difference in the colours with some pre and post shading. The model was going to have all the slat armour attached but it really started to upset me so I gave up! Any thoughts or comments are welcome.

Hello fellow modelers! After building only airplane kits, mostly ww2, I have decided to try something new and bought myself the Revell's Leopard 2, as it recieved good reviews. Especially regarding the fit, which is my weakest link in building. After the start I noticed that two front parts don't really fit, picture below. Does anyone have some experience with this kit and can tell me how to make this part fit, as the hole is quite visible: Further, should I fill the front joint and sand it, or let it be. This part comes together quite nicely, however I can't find any refference: Thank you for your help, Jaka.
