  1. As the fifth instalment of my "Hawker Hurricanes around the world" project, this is Asia's representative, a Mk IIc/trop of the Imperial Iranian Air Force. Iran received Hawker Hurricanes during the war, but I understand that this (2-13) is one of the ones received in 1946 and used as a trainer (which makes sense given its lack of armament). I used the Legato Mk IIc kit, OOB, with decals from Kitsworld (actually the spinner and prop on this are from an Arma kit, but I'm using the Legato one on the Arma kit, so it was just a trade). Tamiya acrylics on top, Vallejo azure blue underneath, and a variety of minimal weathering techniques used (panel liner, acrylic wash, oil exhaust stains, etc.). Here are some group photos with representatives clockwise from top left: North America (USA, Airfix Mk XII); "civilian interlude" (Hawker's test plane G-AFKX, Airfix Mk I fabric wing); Europe (Poland, AZ Mk I fabric wing); Asia (Iran, Legato Mk IIc); South America (Argentina, AZ Mk IV); and Australia (Arma Mk I metal wing). I have to finish Egypt (Arma Mk IIc) and then phase one of the project, representing a Hawker Hurricane in markings from every continent, will be done!
  2. For some reason i have got a Hurricane IIc from Legato(the post war markings) in the stash, my Q is what is the RAF option in the box? Cheers Dek.
  3. Hi! In steps of my last build, I go on with the light civilian tourist aircraft - now it is the elegant Czechoslovak Benes-Mraz Be.150 Beta Junior, the successor of the first in production line Be.50 Beta Minor. There are only few information and photos left to present day and most of them are HERE. The kit is old resin Legato. It's been quite a long time since the last time I worked with a resin model kit (last time the Supermarine 224) but I hope it'll go well. I started with straightening the wavy wings and banana fuselage and then moved to the cockpit. I made a new cockpit floor, bulkhead, headrests, sticks and other details. I decided to open the cockpit doors on the port side, which meant creating new doors from scratch. The last thing today was spraying the surfacer on the inner parts, which are supposed to be in colour of varnished plywood. But that will be a task for another day. Thanks for looking! Ready for surfacer!
  4. This will probably be the last build from me in this GB, I had a whole squadron of planes planned but life has got in the way so the remainder will have to wait until Mediterranean Group Build III. After speaking with @Troy Smiththe other day, I thought a Hurricane would be in order. I'm going to use the Legato kit to do a SAAF plane. I'm using this boxing, because I picked a few up cheap when Hannants were doing a special a year or so ago. (I know this ain't really the place but if anyone wants the transfers, drop me a PM and they're yours.) I'll be attempting to do HL885 AZ-Z: So far, I made a start on the cockpit and painted a Humbrol 33 undercoat on some bits. I'm lead to believe that the Legato kit is generally good but there are few bits that need attention on the fuselage and tailplane. The raised bit shouldn't be there and recessed line on the tailplane should be raised. Sandpaper will get rid of the former and some stretched sprue will cure the later. Thanks for looking.
  5. AZmodel is to release very soon a 1/72nd Fairchild UC-61 Forwarder kit - ref.AZ7527 Source: http://azmodel.cz/avizo/AVIZOAZ-EN-0616.pdf V.P.
  6. Hello and Happy New Year to all! I've decided to start this modelling year with my first WIP thread on BM. I hope you will forgive my mistakes as I still try to improve my English (with very minor success in fact). I've got three 1/72 kits of Hawker Hurricane: two fabric wings Mk.I's from Airfix and one Mk.IIC Nightfighter from Legato/AZ Model. And I intend to build them OOB, except for some aftermarket items for the last one. So, what I have now: The last picture shows metal barrels from ABER, Pavla's vacuformed canopy and real little gem from Yahu Models - the instrument panel. They will be used for the Legato model. I want to build Mk.Is in two different versions: the early one and the later one. The Airfix kit allows this except for one odd thing - the kit contains decals only for the early fabric wings Hurricanes. So I have to do something with the markings of the later one. May be I'll buy a decal sheet or find some markings for it in my spare decals box. Please feel free to correct my language mistakes (for my own good) and I very welcome any advice on the building progress! To be continued...
  7. Hi everyone, This is my new model – little and yellow-wing Fairchild 24 in service with US Coast Guard where it was designated as J2K-2. In fact the kit allows to reproduce only Fairchild 24 as restored nowadays and painted in USGC colours. Original USCG’s J2K-2 had several variations not reproduced in the kit: different engine cowling, smaller tail, wider undercarriage struts (the pair that joins wheels and fuselage), rear windows were installed upside down. The kit by Legato is fairly good for a short-run. I assembled it almost OOB. Major scratchbuild being rotating propeller. Fit is reasonable with most difficulties around fitting transparencies – in particular front screen fit with awful gaps along almost all sides. Some sanding and extra stripes of plastic helped though. Another drawback of the kit was the decal sheet with some colours visibly out of register – black and light blue in my case. As a result USCG (and Israeli) insignia were unusable so I borrowed USCG insignia from another kit, but had to spray white and blue roundels as a background. Also decal representing stripes on the rudder did not perfectly match the rudder shape. I expected this and probably could better spray at least white and red stripes. According to historic photoes and USCG documents both “USCG” letterings have to be placed on the lower surfaces of the wing – not one on lower and one on upper sides as suggested by the instruction. So here are the pictures: And with another yellow-wing airplane in my collection - Lockheed Vega: Best regards! Dennis P.S. updated with flickr-hosted photoes
  8. I'm pulling a bit of an 'Enzo' for this GB and hope to complete four builds, all 1/72: 1. Academy P-40E as a USAAF 11 FS 'Aleutian Tiger'. I know this scheme has been done to death, but it wouldn't be a proper Aleutian collection without it. I bought the Quickboost spinner and propeller set for this kit, and I may try and attach a different canopy if my skills allow. 2. AZ/Legato Kittyhawk IA of RCAF 111 Sqn that served in Alaska, and it points out the fact that the British Commonwealth was active in the defense of US territory and North America itself. 3. Sword P-40K of RCAF 111 Sqn as flown by Sqn Ldr Ken Boomer when he achieved the RCAF's only aerial victory to take place over North America. Of note is that his aircraft was indeed a P-40K and not a Kittyhawk III, as for a period weather conditions were too dangerous to bring in more aircraft and several USAAF P-40K's were 'deputized' by 111 Sqn with RCAF roundels replacing the USAAF stars, but otherwise retaining USAAF markings and serial numbers. 4. Sword P-40K of the USAAF 344th FS based on Shemya Island, in a silver scheme - just because I think it would be fun to make a silver Aleutian P-40. The plan is to start the P-40E and Kittyhawk IA together and then follow on with the P-40K's if things are going smooth enough. I grew up in Alaska, but have never visited any of the Aleutian Islands (the state is gigantic). Even though I now live in 'the lower 48', the Aleutian conflict still retains my interest to this day. It is often referred to as the 'Forgotten War' in Alaska. It is so forgotten that I think that the rest of the country feels that the phrase should refer to the Korean War. Above are a few references for the builds. Thanks Mish, Mungo, Dazdot and Wyvern for organizing this group build - can't wait to get started.
  9. Hello everyone, this is my first post on this lovely forum. I didn't know where to put this diorama with Hansa-brandenburg B.I by Legato kits so I decided to post it here, I hope it's OK. This model was a nightmare so Im not really happy with a result but Im happy that is finally behind me :-\. Diorama was built from scratch, The tree was made of a copper wire and putty, The bench, well and other wooden elements were made of balsa wood, the axe was made of shaving razor, I used a NOCH grass for rail models and for the leaves I used a home-grown dried spices. The Figures of mechanic and a civilian is by Preiser, also in scale 1:72. All in all it was a quite fun build Here's the result: CHEERS FROM SLOVENIA, regards Gašper Podbregar
  10. My second entry would be Seafire Mk.46. Box is usual Legato boxing. Sprues, there is some flash and such but nothing what a bit of sandpaper and filler couldnt deal with Instructions, decals and little PE sheet.
