Hi all, I picked this figure up at the Telford IPMS show two years ago, it was pre painted and a simple push fit together kit. I wanted to see if I could add some lighting and bring it to life, not an easy project as the body was not completely hollow but made up of complex moulded chambers, however with a bit of perseverance I got there in the end. I powered the 5 LED’s with a pp3 9v battery under the base. Iron man's head looked too small for his body and the back of the helmet looked more like a skull in shape, so I mixed up six layers of quick setting clear epoxy and built up the back of the head and neck to bulk out the profile. With a bit of battle weathering and a flat coat I think it turned out well.

Hi chaps. I won this kit on ebay Monday night. Due to fast delivery, was here Wednesday morning, and my love of these kits I decided to start it asap. Now, my robocop build is pretty much ready to paint, and Ed-209 taking a back seat, I have some spare time. The plan is to get this upto the paint stage, then paint both this and robocop at the same time. Box shot. Contents listed on instructions. Simple 2 page instruction sheet. I have started, as you do, with the internal framework, as all the body panels hang on it. Hoping to incorporate some lighting for the eyes, and arc reactor. Matt.

I bought this a couple of years ago and have wanted an excuse to dig it out of the stash for a while. I'm going to be building it as an operational combat variant in camouflage with lighting. There's some nice detail on the base. The main torso parts came in a poly bag already off the sprue, I popped them together to give a better idea of the size.

So I was given this model for fathers day and the box art looks great! However, my concern is achieving anything near the box art finish. I have only ever used Tamiya acrylics and not sure if there is a paint that can give me reflective(ish) finish. I have used Tamiya's gold leaf on the mk6 kit I have made but was hoping there would be another option. I was also toying with the idea of painting him chrome, much like the mk2. Any thoughts or ideas would be great! Cheers, Mo

Hi Everyone, Here is one of my next projects : Moebius Models Iron Man Mark III I will be painting this kit with Tamiya Acrylic paints : Clear Red, Titanium Silver, Gold and Metallic Grey for the display stand Anyway here are the photos of the sprues. As you can see this kit has been primed already with Humbrol primer. I did this a few months ago when I was working on my Redbull RB8 kit. Progress photos once I have done some work on the kit. Hi Everyone, Here is my most recent finished model. I have painted this kit in Tamiya acrylic paints : Clear Red for the main colour, Chrome Silver for the suit's base colour, arc reactor and repulsors, and Metallic Grey for the display stand. Anyway here are the photos: I hope to be able to work on the Iron Patriot kit as soon as I get some repairs made to the display stand. Comments welcome. Rick

I have an obsession about Iron Man. I'm not sure what it is, possibly Robert Downey Jr as Tony Stark, I'm not sure. All I know is that I have what some may consider a strange obsession with him. I have built the Moebius Iron Man kit (MKVI) which I fitted with LEDs so that his hands, eyes and arc reactor lit up. I then built the MKVII by Dragon which didn't go so great, the paint was a little gloopy and I enjoy brush painting and tried to brush paint Iron Man but it didn't work out very well. He looks great from a distance but, close up, he looks a bit ropey. So, when the latest Dragon Iron Man appeared in my (semi)local modelshop, I couldn't resist. The MK XLII is an absolutely stunning kit. The pieces looked great even on the sprue when I opened the box in the shop. I don't have these pictures because I didn't think that far ahead at the time. The kit fits together nicely, the front body armour and back body armour took a little persuading when trying to click them together over the 'skeleton' but once I managed it, it looks great. One good thing about doing a few different Iron Man kits is that I was able to learn by trial and error of what worked and what didn't. I knew that brushes didn't give a clean enough effect. I have already said about my obsession with Iron Man so I wanted him to look good. I chose Tamiya sprays for MK XLII but did not spray the pieces before I assembly. I've realised since then that might have been a better idea. Any way, It's not far from finished but still requires masking on both legs and one arm and the spraying finished. Until then, here he is...Dragon 1/9 MKXLII Iron Man from Marvel Studio's, Iron Man 3. I hope you like him. I am buying more masking tape this weekend so I can finally get him finished.

Iron Man - War Machine Moebius 1:8 Iron Man what can you say, if you have not heard of him where have you been for the last few years? Iron Man is the latest in a line of Superheroes to get the Hollywood treatment. Starting in 2008 with Robert Downey Junior playing the lead role of Tony Stark a.k.a Iron Man there has now been three blockbuster films which have grossed over $2.4 Billion. Iron man was originally conceived by Stan Lee at Marvel Comics and made his first appearance in Tales of Suspense #39 in march 1963. The basic story is that after billionaire playboy / industrialist / engineer Tony Stark suffers a severe injury during a kidnapping he creates a powered suit of armour to escape. He then uses this as the superhero Iron man to protect the world. War Machine (real name James Rupert Rhodes was a Lt in the US marine Corps who served as a combat pilot in Southeast Asia. After being shot down by The Viet Cong he helps Iron Man who is at the times escaping in his original suit of armour. After escaping Tony Stark thanks Rhodes for helping to save his life by offering him a job as his personal pilot. Rhodes was to don the Iron man armour when Stark was unable to. Rhodes had problems with Starks armour and was forced to stop using it. Later on Stark designed the Variable Threat Response Battle Suit nicknamed War machine, this was a more heavily armed version of the Iron Man suit designed for all out warfare. After Starks apparent death he left a suit specially designed for Rhodes to carry on the Iron Man legacy. Even after the revelation that Stark was alive and the friendship between the two ended Stark asked Rhodes to keep the War machine suit as it was his. The Kit The kit arrives in a standard opening lid box resplendent with the figure in the pose the final model will take. There are six sprues of dark plastic in three bags, and a further bag of loose parts in the same dark grey plastic. There is also one small sprue of white plastic which has the parts for the ARC reactor lens, eye insert & repulsor lenses. A separate bag contains the base, again in white plastic. The parts appear to be well moulded with no problems or flash evident. Construction starts with the head. The white eye insert is glued in and then the head and neck are assembled. Next the white reactor insert is added to the chest plate. The upper torso is assembled and the lower torso parts attached. The chest plate is then attached to the front of this sub-assembly. The next subassemblies to make up are the arms. Each arm consists of two side parts. The hands are made up and the repulsor lenses added. Then the gun mounts are added. Elbow plates are added along with the hand back armour. The instructions have you add the guns at this point though they can be left off until later. Once the arms are made up its time for the leg sub-assemblies. The feet are three part affairs which are made up first. Then the upper leg parts are assembled. Once this is done the lower leg parts are added, these sandwich mountings on the upper leg and the feet at the same time. Knee parts are added along with rockets and their mounting plates on the lower legs. Next its time to make up the Gatling gun and its mount. The four part mount is made up first, then the 3 part gun is assembled. You then have make the ammo feed belt for the gun which is comprised of 8 parts due to its complex shape. Once all of these sub-assemblies are completed its time to add the head, arms and legs onto the main body. Final touches are to add the shoulder mounted rocket launchers, the Gatling gun and its feed belt. The figure can then be placed on the supplied base or one of the modellers own choosing. There are some 3 views of the completed model which will help in construction but the instructions are a bit vague on where the ammunition belt attached to the figure. On the whole they are good though. Base Its a good touch that this kit provides a base on which to place your completed figure. The base is pretty generic in that it is just a piece of cracked ground. However with some correct painting it should look the part. The base contains some large locating pins to slot the figure onto so there should be no problems of it falling off. Conclusion This figure is a more complex construction than the Iron Man figure from Moebius but should prove no problems to even a novice modeller. This will look great when made up next to the Iron Man kit or on its own. Recommended. Review sample courtesy of UK distributors for

The mark III was the first suit to feature gold as a colour, with the colour scheme being based on a hot rod car owned by Tony Stark. This suit featured an anti-icing system stopped the icing at altitude problems the mark II suit suffered from. The suit also had shoulder mounted mini guns, wrist mounted rockets and flares. The Kit The kit arrives in a standard opening lid box resplendent with the figure in the pose the final model will take. There are four sprues of red plastic in two bags which form the main figure, and a separate bag containing the base. The parts appear to be well moulded with no problems or flash evident. Construction starts with attaching the head to the front body. The connector is placed in, and both sides of the head are attached. The face plate is then added. Following this both of the arms are constructed. The arms are made up of lower and upper parts. Both lower parts are constructed first and these are then added to the upper parts. he hands are then added. Following the arms it is the turn of the legs. The feet are constructed first and these are added to the lower legs. The lower legs are added to the inside parts of the upper legs, but it is important the outside of the upper legs are not added at this point. The arm and leg sub assemblies can now be added to the front part of the body. The attachment points for the legs are then added. It is important these are positioned correctly, as show in the instructions. Once the leg attachments and arms are in place the rear of the body is added. The leg sub assemblies are then added. Once these are in place the out parts of the upper legs are added, following the knees. The figure can then be added to the supplied base of one the modeller might have made themselves. Base Its a good touch that this kit provides a base on which to place your completed figure. The base is pretty generic in that it is a pair of large cogs. However with some correct painting it should look the part. The base contains some large locating pins to slot the figure onto so there should be no problems of it falling off. Conclusion This is a great looking kit, given the size and some nice paint it should make into a great looking model. Recommended for those Iron Man fans, and super hero modellers. Hi Everyone, Here is my finished effort on the Dragon Iron Man Mark VII Armour from Avengers Assemble. This kit was given a complete undercoat of Tamiya Titanium Silver, then painted over with 2 coats of Tamiya Clear Red and 2 coats of Tamiya Gold Leaf on all Gold parts and then Revell Acrylic Silver on the few Silver parts that are on it. Overall this kit was a great project and I am looking to finding more kits like this and doing them as well. Maybe have a full collection of the Avengers. Comments welcome. Anyway onto the photo. I just could't resist those Modelzone prices -- £4.99 for this... Not a complex kit, and intended to to snap together. Nicely detailed, though, even if her legs do seem unfeasibly long! Primer everywhere to start with. The sculpt is extremely good, I reckon. It's got Ms Johansson's turned up nose and full lips rather nicely, and the eyes have slightly raised detail for the iris and lashes, which will help painting no end... She's not actually as yellow as she looks here! Citadel colours mostly, with Elf Flesh as a base, Dwarf Flesh for the lips, and a lot of mix and matching, wash and blusher from chalk pastel. Hair is mostly Vallejo -- I started with "Saddle Brown" overlaid with red "Woodgrain", then progressive dry brushing in lighter colours, finished with a coat of Citadel "Fuegan Orange" wash, because the home team all though she was too much a brunette, not a redhead... The suite is actually blue, not black or grey. I started by spraying the body matt black, and then used my "carbon fibre" technique of spraying through a fine mesh (salvaged from a bunch of flowers we bought this weekend) to mask a dark blue top-coat, which now has the look of a "technical fabric" of some sort. Actually, though it's hard to see clearly in this image, the effect of the mesh stretching and distorting over her curves makes the fabric effect even more realistic... And this is where I'm at tonight. Most of the details painted in Vallejo German Grey with some dry brushing for relief. She's not quite a "weekend project, but not far off. Should be finished tomorrow, I reckon. bestest, M.

Hi everyone, I am not starting on this kit just yet but do need some advice. When I bought this kit, I was advised to buy the following paints : Tamiya Clear Red, Gold, Silver and Titanium Silver. I am slightly concerned about the Titanium Silver colour which I was told to use as a base colour for the kit. Now I remember from the original Iron men movie that Tony Stark had the suit made out of a gold titanium alloy. Does that mean I should be using the Titanium Gold colour instead of the Titanium Silver as a base colour ? Hope someone can advise especially if you have built this kit ?
