And here it goes. Despite all the horror stories, warnings, and my general dislike of poorly; ney, dumbly engineered kits, I bought a Kittyhawk Jaguar GR1. Why?
First and foremost, I got it on deep discount. Second, it's a funky looking airplane, and when it comes to aircraft and music, I like funk. Third? Because when folks say something is awful, I feel some pull to go see if it's really that bad (usually it is!)
This kit is... interesting. Lots of great detail, lots of panels to build open. I love that, but even a cursory glance has revealed shortcomings. First, several steps are missing from the instructions :/
Not a huge deal, but somebody at QC was asleep at the wheel. Far worse is that the rear ends of both fuselage halves look like they've been chewed by rats. They're slightly warped, and it looks like somebody tried to get the straight by shear force of will. And uhm, downward pressure with a small pointed object I s'pose (see photo below).
I began assembly by gluing the forward and back parts of each fuselage half.
Fit sucked. I used plastic shims and CA to fill the gaps. Accelerant made curing immediate, and I began sanding. One side cleaned up smartly. The other dried in a porous manner (air bubbles?) And had to be filled with some putty.
As putty dries, I began assembly of the cockpit. I do not like the low relief PE instrument panel and side consoles, but I'll see what I can do.
For now they're just primed black. I'll attempt the Mike Ashley method of painting each surface a slightly different shade of very dark gray. As for the instrument faces? We'll see. Gee thanks, Kittyhawk! :/
