  1. Hi I am new to ships and have some experience in AFV's and Aircraft. I have plans to move into ships and have these two models in my Amazon basket. I know I'm probably asking a silly question, but... Can I use these models to create a diorama with a water base something like this? Also in my Amazon basket are these.... As a complete newbie to ships am I starting in the right place with the right stuff or am iissing something? I would really like to make a diorama with a nazi submarine underneath a tribal class convoy destroyer spitting out hedgehogs or something similar....
  2. Good evening everyone just joined on here. I've been modeling for around a year and I'm perfecting my technique with every model but at last i find myself on one specific dilemma. I've been using Vallejo model air on every single model and I find myself in love with the products, simple Acrylics that go on with no problem, been spraying them on a Tamiya primer, recently switched over to Fine Primer white and it's doing wonders. Problems is, so far I've always been putting on my gloss coat with Vallejo premium gloss coat (airbrushed) and i always find myself with at least some degree of silvering on every model. I tried more coats, i tried more time to let it dry and right now I'm just wondering if maybe it's not glossy enough to avoid silvering. So i was thinking of switching to either Mr. Topcoat gloss or Tamiya Gloss (the rattlecan variety of both) and i was wondering if it's gonna be too aggressive for the vallejo model air paint and eat trough it or ruin it in some way? Maybe they are not compatible or something? I also wonder if its gonna cause problems when i use Tamiya panel liner on top of it since I do know that an incompatible coat can make the panel liner eat trough. So far I've used it on the vallejo premium coat and i didn't have problem in removing access but I'm worried if I'll have problem when I switch over. I thank all of you in advance for the responses, every detailed explanation on if compatibility of products and all is more than welcomed thanks to everyone!
  3. .Hi all, I know now nothing about 3D printing apart from having used some aftermarket 3D stuff for a few models which were very good. I am now wondering if any kind gent out there would draw me a .stf file (is that correct?) that I can then get my son to print for me? It is a simple shape but he says it isn’t something he knows enough about in order to draw it :(. The shape is a plug that would joint the front and rear fuselage parts for a current build. Fortunately it is a circular cross section. The rear is resin while the front is plastic. The resin is thinner than the plastic and so I need a stepped plug. The drawing below should describe. If not, I can explain more. Many, many thanks in advance Martin
  4. Hi I wanted to ask if anybody knows how long I should hold my airfix decals under water and what temperature everyone classes as ‘warm’ water because I’m worrying I’m using too hot of water. thanks lummy 06
  5. Hi Friends... I started a 6 model Luftwaffe build binge... I am on my second plane, a He162 wk number 120067, otherwise known as White 4. I have found 4 to 5 photos of this plane that I am studying. I even found a parted out photo of it late 1945/46 with faded paint, but topside of wing visible... The help I need is from Experten on late war German aircraft... i have read that the early builds of the He162 (which this is) had the fuselage painted in RLM71. From the photos, the power egg is darker than fuse, so its probably RLM81. The fuselage is slightly lighter than this, but way darker than RLM82 light green. Do you guys know if there was truth to the RLM71 fuselage rumor, or are bets that its fuselage is RLM83 dark green? The 83 worries me as its darker than 81, and power egg is darker than the fuselage. Anyone out there done a He162 and careful about colors? Thanks for any help you have...

  7. Hiya Question... I see a few modellers adding 'insulators' to their radio-wires. Below are some little snips from other's build I've saved as examples. I'm assuming these are insulators? Were these ubiquitous on the radio wires of the time? What do people do to achieve these? I've seen talk of pva blobs and paint or tubing ... I'm using fine 1/48 0.82 EZline, what's the best way to construct these? I'm about to finish an MC 205 Veltro and if it's appropriate would like to try them. I haven't seen a particular reference photo of a 205 with them on yet ... if anyone knew of one ... If there is an existing tips/method thread I've missed please link me in, I tried to search for one but didn't find one. Thanks
  8. No 7 then this time Bruce Jenner’s as was gto class imsa mustang obviously not painting that scheme as this eBay purchase decals look past there best and I’m not one for replicas at the moment ,not good enough to do justice .I have 3 in my stash (it’s up to 4 now)that I want to do correct ,maybe ,but skills need to improve, as long as I can keep finding something else to build in the meantime they may escape my clutches till I have the skills anyway the build is under way lots of parts primed some painted body already spoilt I have wet sanded this back and had another go it’s a bit better no pics yet but not perfect , on spiny’s advice I’m ordering some micromesh see if we can improve the body a bit .on that subject the tailgate has a twist to it any recommendations for fixing I’ve tried just flexing back helped a little but not enough .black paint is rattle can by the way all other Vallejo through airbrush that is a pos
  9. Hi everyone! TL;DR: please recommend a 1:48 Eduard me109 for the Pacific theatre I joined the forum because my dad's gotten back into model airplanes and he's asked me for a 1:48 scale Me 109 from Eduard for his upcoming birthday. I've had a cautionary Google and there's quite a lot of stuff on their website that I'm not sure where to start (Link) He's pretty good with photo-etched parts and building custom hoses and such out of wire so I'm pretty sure he'll be happy with the more complex looking stuff on there. Sorry if this isn't the place to ask, but I don't really have much experience in this hobby so I thought this would be the best place to start looking! I'd like to know which models are recommended, and which era of 109 would be appropriate for the rest of his models. (They're almost all exclusively Pacific theatre American navy aircraft). Cheers for slogging through that thesis, sorry it's a bit of a long introduction :^) Look forward to hearing what you've all got to say!
  10. Hello All! I am posting as I could really do with some advice from the experts! Essentially I am currently trying to improve my modelling, and have decided to try and use a pin wash to highlight the panel lines in the aircraft I am currently making. Before this is done I have read that you should coat the model with a gloss varnish in order to allow the wash to flow better over the model’s surface. I have therefore been looking into buying a gloss varnish, but have been stunned by the variety on offer and am really confused as to the difference between them all. I really don't want to end up using a varnish which will melt away either my paint work or the decals. My model is painted predominantly with Humbrol enamel paints, with some acrylic paint used on the landing gear. I was hoping to use an oil based wash to highlight the panel lines, which I would neaten up with a cotton bud dipped in white spirit (although I am open to advice on this front if you think a water based wash would be better?). Therefore what gloss varnish would you recommend? Should I look to get Enamel or Acrylic Varnish? Also which brands are best, as I have heard that some varnishes tend to go cloudy or yellow over time? Finally, although I need the gloss coat for applying washes I would like to have a matt finish to the aircraft. Therefore, which matt varnishes would you recommend for sealing the wash and decals and finishing off the aircraft? Thank you in advance!
  11. anyone know of anyone who makes one? Found an Arma hobby one bu think its been discontinued.
  12. I've managed to get hold of a partially built, white metal, 1/35 scale FV107 Scimitar made by Barton Miniatures. I think it's circa 1985. Long shot - does anyone have a copy of the instructions? Some parts are missing and will need replacing. I'd like to be able to draw up an inventory of what's needed. Fortunately, I do have an AFV Club Scimitar in my stash, which I can refer to, but it won't necessarily be that same. https://photos.google.com/photo/AF1QipPs_87TiBKE70vYZtphKwdUanynuBQEk6R46039 Keeping my fingers crossed. I've never done a white metal kit before so I will also be needing your help along the way..... AJ
  13. Hello, I was wondering if there is an idiot guide for searching the site, other than using Google (other search engines are available). Simply put, it would be great (IMHO) if one could narrow a search to a particular branch of the Britmodeller tree: I might be in the market for a new compressor, so I went to the Reviews section, Tools and Tips sub-section, and typed 'Compressor' into the search box. The first hit (of many) was to the compressor faces of the Convair B-58 Hustler. All good stuff, no doubt, but not really what I was after. Am I missing some obvious search flag? I've been in IT for 25 years, so its entirely possible I am missing some new-fangled but oblique way of doing things! Mike
  14. So I've finally gotten around to buying a Vulcan, the Airfix 1/72 XH558 boxing. Any advice on the notoriously difficult kit? Are there any in depth reviews that tell how to build a good model out of it? I've heard that the engines are inaccurate for XH558, which I don't plan on building it as anyway, which Vulcans are they accurate for? Finally, what aftermarket upgrades are useful (I know there are seamless intakes available), and where can I get them from? I'm not too bothered about the cockpit as it will be hardly visible The less chopping up and resin surgery I have to do the better.... I have never used resin upgrades for a scale model before

  16. Hi guys I need a little help with my airbrush. Mits just closing constantly! Its a sparmax 40 im using Tamiya acrylics thinned out with either Tamiya thinner or water. I'm having to clean fully after every colour. Strip down and rebuild. Im cleaning with thinners, cotton buds and kitchen roll. I've flushed through after every coloir change and I just can't get this right I've recently had to change to signal use trigger rather than the pull/depress trigger as that was blocking even quicker. 😔😔😔😔😔🔥🔥🔥
  17. Hi all I'm thinking of getting a 1/48 Italeri Harvard, is it an Italeri kit or a re box and is it any good? John
  18. I have a small problem which the other half might kill me for. 😟 I was working on a model and knocked pretty much all of a pot of humbrol black enamel paint on the cream living room carpet, resulting in a 3 inch stain... I got the most if it up with WD40 and some stain remover but she's still going to notice. 🙈 Anyone got any good tricks?? Pretty please! 🙄
  19. Hi guys I'm trying to hunt down some jadgtiger photos. Having spent a few hours on google I can only find the same photos circulating. It's kinda frustrating. Move lots of photos of the one down at the tank museum Dorset and the Aberdeen training grounds (or what was) but both these are Porsche types. Im particularly after winter camouflage schemes and intersting field alterations etc thank you so much

No help or criticism will be treated as negative,😀😀😀

  22. Getting confused. Some days I get emails saying I've treads that have been updated but when I log on to forum I have no notification icons so am having to use my emails to link which threads are updated. I know it's certainly not keeping a track of likes either. Is it a forum bug or is it my settings? Or something I'm doing? (I also have the notify for replies on) example is my Korea thread has 2 replies today... yet no red dot to say so Thanks guys :-)
  23. So I want to have a go at making an insect type paint effect with a black, blue and greens, the sort of colours you see on beetles. Any recommendations on paint, how I might go about doing it, an idiots guild would be great. Is it even worth doing on a Gundam kit? I see Createx do some paints but this company get some very bad reviews, Hobbynox I can get from my LHS but know nothing of this brand,Hobbynox Any help at all would be great. Thanks Brian
  24. Hey folks Getting back in to AFV building after a couple of years break building just aircraft and fancied building the Tamiya Matilda III/IV as an Aussie one with the Echelon decal set... not sure how much difference there was between the two versions whether it's just details or major re-building. Can anybody give me a little advice here ??. Thanks in advance. Ian.
  25. I have just acquired an airbrush set up from Little Cars - which included an airbrush cleaning pot. I understand what it is for & how to use it - BUT... Obviously it is going to get dirty & being a "clean freak" - I wondered do I put anything inside to either ABSORB the paint / cleaner such as some kitchen tissue OR further dilute the paint / cleaner such as water. I will be spraying with acrylics. Any advice would be appreciated - or if I'm just being a wuss - please let me know Oh & Happy Easter Modelling Steve
