    I hate photo etch

Just finishing off my he219 try to attach the nose dipoles. It's fiddly as he'll, nothing fits properly, I the drop it countless times as it flicks off my tweezers, spend 15 minutes looking for it on the floor...twice. then they all break off. Grrr!
  2. Here is the He 219 A-0 G9+FK. Continuing my Night Fighter series. I wanted to replicated as much as possible the original plane, I'm am pretty satisfied I achieved this. The Platz (Dragon) in 1/72 is overall a very good kit to build, there were some fitment issues with the wings to the fuselage and the undercarriage, I'll know what do next time! For those interested in this kit the Platz kit comes with weights and p.e which is extra over the Dragon offering so I suggest go with this one at least for the weights. I think it still needs to be heavier in the nose so I will add more weight at a future date. The original flown by Ernst-Wilhelm Modrow 2./NJG1 with FuG 220 SN-2 and Fug 212 Germany 1944 Anyway here she is, love to here your comments.
  3. Once the replacement instructions and decals missing from the kit (which was purchased new and sealed) arrive from Germany, I hope to get cracking on with this. I also bought some extras for the kit, including the Profimodeller landing gear strengthening set. The nose leg parts are fine but the instructions tell you to shorten the main gear leg, removing 3mm from the centre of the leg; the problem is, if you do this you cannot fit the wheel guards which wrap around the kit leg exactly at the point of removal. I'm considering cutting the metal part in two, trim to fit either side of the flat and installing the modified metal. I'm concerned that doing this will reduce the effectiveness of the metal and defeat the object. Thoughts anyone?
  4. Hi everyone! Thanks to Mike's review yesterday and some time off work this week I've decided to crack on with the UHU... This will be a pretty-well out of box build with the aim of keeping things simple and making some progress. For the purposes of this exercise I'll be going into 'assembler of kits' mode as opposed to the usual AMS induced 'stress bunny'. Wish me luck! Taking a leaf out of those pesky armour modellers approaches to assembly I'm going for a lot of sub assemblies - in fact that's today's focus - so that I can then have a sanding binge all at once at some point. I have to say that whilst the kit looks superb - and is remarkable value - the instructions let it down a little! Starting with the wings - read the instructions carefully if you want to drop the flaps as there are sections that need removing! The flap areas have the inserts shown below that provide detail for the dropped flaps - as well as strength to the assembled wings: Wings are now glued and on the window-sill drying off. Tailplane next - main sections quite straightforward... The fins are more complex - and need a little gymnastics to put together - along with careful use of glue (personally I'm not bothered if they don't move): On the theme of assemblies and racking them up ready for sanding in one session here are the tyres and main gears - all pretty straightforward stuff: That's all for now folks...
