  1. This'll be fun. This is nice looking little kit with good detail and minuscule decals. I will be adding some BlackDog resin bits from his line...I am off island when this GB starts and will be home in time to reopen the box. 😄 Not sure which French one I'll build. Sprue, decals, PE... Blackdog extras. One thing I like about vehicles is you can load them up with stuff. See you all Saturday! --John
  2. I have three boxes of various Italeri parts, part built turrets and hulls that I got from a mate for free! I am going to attempt to build a M4A1 (76mm) from the components I have and anything else out the spares box. I might even end up being a kitbash between the Italeri and old Tamiya kit as I have plenty of parts for those too! Regards Grahame
  3. Hi all, I'm about to build the Fly 1/72 Hurricane IIB and am aiming to do the Free French Air Force option. I understand that the painting instructions are a little fanciful and in reality, the camouflage scheme was likely to be the usual desert colours (dark earth and middle stone over azure blue) with some fading and repainting in evidence. There's one thing bothering me though. The picture of the original in "Hurricane at War:2", P.87, doesn't appear to show yellow on the propeller tips which arouses suspicion that the photo was taken on orthochromatic film. This would explain why the blue on the rudder is darker than expected. I'm probably overthinking this, but if not, what would be the effect of ortho film on the dark earth and middle stone? Would it reverse the colours so the darker colour in the image would be the middle stone on the real BG707? Thanks, John.
  4. Dear fellow Britmodellers, here's my 1/72 Eduard Spitfire IXe, built from the 'Royal Class' box that contains masks, photo-etch parts and resin wheels. I chose decal option 'K' for the aircraft of Jean-Marie Accart, CO of 345. Squadron, based at Deanland/East Sussex in September 1944. The model was painted with Gunze acrylics and weathered with artist's oils. All photographs by Wolfgang Rabel. Thanks for your interest, best greetings from Vienna!
  5. Dear All, I am constructing now Potez 29 in FAFL colours from Africa (Chad). Some of Potez 29 were wearing red crosses on the fuselage. What markings could be there on wings? I have some photos and profiles, but unfortunately nothing can be guess about the wings. Before war only red crosses were in six positions on such ambulance. Since on fuselage Lorrine crosses were added I expect also those blue crosses on wings from top and bottom, inside the red ones. Or it was differently? - French roundles and Lorraine crosses. Perhaps markings on other FAFL amulance could be helpful. Any French expert comment will be very apprecieted... Regards J-W.
  6. Bought these quite recently as I have a soft spot for the Hurricane but wanted to do something different than BoB. Hoping to make a start this weekend. Whilst there's some additional goodies that will find their way in to the builds, the main goal is to have some relatively simple sanity builds with the focus being on the paintwork and weathering rather than being crammed with every detail imaginable. To prevent Troy from telling me off , I've started to sand the panels on the sides which should have the corrugated form right across the join. Only done one side of one kit so far using a round file. Wasn't brilliant, but hope to improve for the others. Wasn't a disaster either!
  7. Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXc MA574 'A' GC 1/7 'Provence'. Armee de L'Air, Algeria. Late 1943 I have been able to find out to much about this plane other than the WWII records show she was produced at Castle Bromwich and shipped to Casablanca and handed over to the Free French Air Force. I found one wartime Black and White photo of her and from this I have based most of the build. Her fate is unknown, but I did find one reference to her having been lost around Lyon later in the war. There also seems to be lots of references on the web to another Spitfire with the same registration, serving with a polish Squadron and it crashing in Kent. The date given was the same as the arrival date of this Spitfire in Casablanca. Was there two Spitfire Mk.IX with the same serial? Or more likely the reference to the 'Polish' one has had the serial recorded wrongly. Anyway, enough of the history and on with the model. Kit: Tamiya Scale: 1:32 Paint: Tamiya Weathering: Tamiya Decals: Kit and OH Models Extras: None, OOB Build: Photobucket Library Thanks for looking
