  1. While discussing sand ingestion by desert-based Hurricanes with a modeling buddy, I came across these photos of the two types of dust filters fitted to Mk 1b Tiffies. Guessing the Normandy-based aircraft had them fitted, including 2nd TAF Typhoons? Hope you haven't seen these photos before. IIRC, there are aftermarket cuckoo door filters in 1/72 and 1/48 scales. 3. While I was looking for any references on the Type F flasher unit being discussed on another topic, I found this website that describes the function and fit of all radio, navigation, and IFF devices fitted to Lancasters. A very interesting and informative site, which although it doesn't shed any light on the flasher lamp installation, I think would be of interest to anyone wanting to super detail a Lanc interior. (... and haven't we all wanted to do that? Mike http://jproc.ca/ve3fab/lancaster_electronics_fit_ww2.html

    RAF Bostons

I'm sure many of you have seen these photos before, and they're most likely colorised examples, but given that, there are a few details that for some reason caught my eye that I had never noticed before. If the wing root section the crewman is standing on is untinted chromate primer, which it appears to be, then notice the difference between it and the interior of the open crew access hatch, which would have been painted with interior green, which was basically tinted chromate primer- I had never really noticed that before. Also, the optically flat panel in the nose that went in front of t

    AT-11 Kansan

I found this just now, and with the impending re-release of the not-so-good PM C-45 and AT-11 kits, I thought this might be useful for any of you contemplating building one, or using one of the Hobbycraft kits. Mike http://www.twinbeech.com/at-11page1.htm
  6. Sabrejet probably has dozens of better photos on the RF Sabres, but I don't, and I was pretty stoked when I found these while looking for Navy China Lake QF-86's. Not many photos on the RF-86F, at least in my small collection, so I thought some of you would like seeing these. I do have one Kodachrome of a JASDF RF-86F taken in '53-54 by my late father when he was with the 8th FBG at Itazuke AB- will have to dig it out with what I think was an SB-17G photo- also in Japanese markings. 7. I found this just now while looking for something else entirely- so what else is new? I hope you find the photos interesting and that they are new to most of you- if they have been posted before, let me know and I can remove them. Looks like there are some good projects for @tonyot in this collection! Mike http://silverhawkauthor.com/warplanes-of-the-second-world-war-preserved-in-australia_458.html
  8. While I was looking for photos or diagrams of the exhaust system and oil coolers on A-20's for the forum topic on P-70's, I found these rwo photo collections that have numerous detail photos that show almost all variants; especially useful are the close ups that show the different exhaust configurations fitted to A-20's that I hope will be useful for any of you considering a Boston/Havoc build. Downside for those of you across the pond, is most of the photos are USAAF aircraft- sorry! Mike http://axis-and-allies-paintworks.com/e107_plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?13700
  9. This beautifully restored Mustang is based here in San Antonio where I live, and flies over my house weekly. The owner is the nicest fellow and has let me shoot countless detail photos at airshows. One of the nicest restored P-51D's, as you can see from the restoration and detail photos. Bruce flies her with the replica 108 gallon paper tanks all the time. Jack Ilfrey's other 20th FG mount, a P-38J, was also named Happy Jack's Go Buggy. I had the honor and pleasure of meeting him years ago at one of our annual IPMS Alamo Squadron model contests. I hope you will enjoy the story and the photos.
  10. Just stumbled upon this site- huge collection of detail exterior and interior photos, some in color, of American and British types flown by the RCAF- many I have never seen before, There are also lists of squadrons and serials for some types. Some outstanding detail photos for model building projects. I hope you will enjoy them and find this a useful modeling reference resource!
