Started on the sweet A5M4 as flown by Saburo Sakai. Made a good start on the cockpit. The kit comes with no cockpit detail, apart from a basic seat. - I have used a Brengun PE Japanese seat instead. -Added internal structure, radios and side control boxes. Still need to add instrument panel and control stick. Even though i'm fully able to, ill refrain from doing pipework etc inside because let's be honest what I've already done will be barely visible.

This will be my entry. Hope I can finishing this on time. This is a full resin kit. I've done some before so I think I can rule with this without major problems....

Hello fellow britmodellers. Here is the first build I'd like to share pictures of. I don't intend to do a full WIP but only to show some pictures. It will take quite sometime between shots because my usual production time for a basic kit is of about 3 months. This one began on 12 march. It's FineMolds 1/48 A5M4 Claude, an impressive little kit, well engineered and with very good fit. I'm using Vallejo's metal colors for the first time and I'm very impressed. This one will be my first full NMF (if everything goes well - cross fingers here, please). So for today, just the cockpit floor with some bits attached and the engine. Interior color is Tamiya XF 67 Nato green and Gunze H63 metallic blue-green. I tried a very light wash with Tamiya smoke to reduce the "shine" of the engine (engine airbrushed with Gunze aqueous steel and Vallejo Duraluminium and exhaust manifold). Some drybrushing done on the cockpit floor with Vallejo flat aluminium and a very light wash of darkened green on selected places. Hello Gentlemen, this is my next build on Britmodeller. FineMolds 1/48th scale Mitsubishi A5M4 "CLAUDE" Imperial Japanese Navy. The Mitsubishi A5M Japanese Navy Type 96 Carrier-based Fighter was the worlds first monoplane shipboard fighter to enter service and the direct ancestor of the Zero fighter. It was designed by Jiro Horikoshi who is the subject of the The Wind Rises which is an animated historical drama film. The model comes on three main sprues. Spure A contains the wing sections, B contains the engine & cockpit details with sprue D the fuselage halves. F is the transparency and P contains 2 poly caps , only one of which is required. The decal sheet has 3 colour schemes. No 1, 14th Naval Air Group, China, 1940, No 2, Aircraft carrier Kaga Naval Air Group, Japan, 1939, & No 3 Naval Third Carrier Division, 1942. There are 68 parts in total (2 of which are not used) 1 transparency & 2 poly caps. The box art. Construction stages 1 to 9 Construction stages 10 to 15 & paint chart. The three colour scheme options. Sprue A. The wing & undercarriage parts. If you look at the surface of the upper wing, you will notice the different shades of plastic. You can see it more with the naked eye. It shows the different panels very well. It will be interesting to see how they look on the finished model after the paint has been applied. Sprue B, The fuselage, engine & cockpit detail with the decal sheet. The transparency is in the decal bag along with the poly caps. I hope to start the kit in the next week or so. I will first remove all the major parts from the sprues and tape them together to get some idea of the fit. Thanks for looking, Joe.

I've made some simple research and find that reconstruction like that: or that, most modern: are based on wrong information. The main source of them was this photograph: but it gives no ideas how the tail part of aircraft was looked like. Nevertheless, it seems some ideas were taken out of it - I mean out of images of two other airplanes on this photo, seen under the wing of Hagiri's aircraft: Both of them have wide black stripes aft of Hinomaru, and at least that on the right also has slanted stripe on the tail. So, those markings are specific to some squadron. The problem is that this Hagiri's plane is known as part of IJNS Soryu air group, but no Japanese carrier air group is known to have such markings. Soryu's aircraft in particular in the late part of 1930s were marked by ether red or white (with red borders) single thin band - or they had no bands at all. At the same time markings of this Hagiri's plane closely resemble this: This is aircraft from Yokosuka kokutai, possibly from famous Genda's Circus (was this the reason of such flamboyant paint job?). Matsuo Hagiri spent most of his flying career with Yokosuka kokutai, Genda's Circus included, so it is almost certain that on photo in question he depicted on one of Yokosuka kokutai machines he flew after returning from China and before he was given new Zero. As of aircraft Hagiri flew off Soryu there is series of photos of Japanese naval pilots posing before different A5M4s onboard Soryu. After close examination of them I've found this: The rightmost fragment is part of the photo with Hagiri above, other three - from those taken onboard Soryu. There is no doubts that the man on all four is Matsuo "Mustashio" Hagiri, and on one of those photos, here he (in the middle) is seen sitting in front of A5M4 W-102, which was his mount during this cruise and had usual Soryu's air group markings of the time. So, well-known and widely published (decals included) reconstruction of Hagiri's aircraft seems to be the mix of Yokosuka and Soryu kokutais markings and is incorrect. I would advice those who seeks at least a bit of historical accuracy when building Fujimi or new Wingsy kits A5M4 to choose other variants of markings. Afternoon!! Well its time to start something new - so here we have Wingsy's new "Claude". For look in the box you can take a shufti at their website ( principally because I've already started the model so didn't take any sprue shots...) http://www.wingsykits.com/product/d5-01-ijn-type-96-carrier-based-fighter-ii-a5m2b-claude-late-version-148/ The Claude has long been a favourite of mine, exhibiting as it does that rather ungainly yet elegant period of early monoplane fighter design of the mid/ late 1930's. And as much as it looks like some sort of Manga-make-believe-crate, it was a very effective combat machine. I was very tempted by Fine Molds lovely A5M4 - especially as it builds so well - as illustrated by Joe's great build - However in the end I settled on this new kit from Ukrainian newcomers Wingsy Kits: And what a splendid little model it is too - with very fine recessed panel lines, delicate moulding, PE parts & film instruments, and a dry fit that suggests a very trouble free build! You would think this was from a Japanese company or perhaps Eduard - it really is that nice. So to that end - here's the, admittedly rather dull, first few pics - mostly showing you the cockpit areas painted with Tamiya XF71 Japanese interior pale grey green. More to come - and it will get less green I promise Jonners

This is Fujimi's 1/72 scale A5M4 Claude in the kit's provided markings of a Soryu based aircraft, Dec. 1940. Clear orange was mixed into aluminum and steel metalizers, and sprayed on to simulate the possible protective amber varnish. A final satin clear was applied overall. Masks for the Hinomarus were cut from masking tape using a circle compass cutter. regards, Jack

The Mitsubishi A5M Claude is best known as the predecessor of the A6M Zero, but it was a very capable plane in its own right. I've always liked its looks, especially the curves of the rear fuselage are a thing of beauty. I picked up the Nichimo kit for a few quid while on holiday in Japan a few years back. I had never seen it before, and it was being rereleased at that time. It's an old kit, but it has some modern features. The flaps are separately molded, and the kit has recessed panel lines. Fit is ok, I needed some filler in the usual areas at the wing roots and rear wing to fuselage joint. Quite a few of the parts had extensive mold lines and flash, this was particularly an issue on the propeller, which was left a bit thin after all the carving I had to do on it. The main challenge on the kit was the windshield; it had a lot of flash, and after cleaning it I realized some of the flash wasn't in fact flash - this left a huge gap between windscreen and forward fuselage, which required filling. I used white primer, followed by red on the tail and locations of the hinomarus, subsequently masking those off, resulting in nicely sprayed markings in those areas. However, I forgot to do the hinomarus on the fuselage, and used the decals for those, which luckily had a similar shade of red. The rest of the kit was sprayed with Games Workshop Runefang Steel, which is my favorite NMF paint now; it hardens very quickly and doesn't pick up finger prints. I gave it wash with some dark grey water colors. All in all a relatively easy build, and one that looks pretty good next to much more modern kits.

Hello, I'm presenting my Special Hobby's A5M4 Claude in 1:32 scale - model represents the machine from Soryu carrier, pilot PO1/c Matsuo Hagiri, summer 1939. The kit contains numerous resin and PE parts, so I did not use any other aftermarkets. Painting was done using Mr. Hobby Super Metallic metalizers and acrylics. Hope you enjoy!
