  1. I've recently been gifted the Black Buck boxing of the Airfix Vulcan and I think I've decided to depict XM598. I could go the easy way and depict her as prepared for her abortive rile in Black Buck 1 with the AN/ALQ-101 pod, but I've recently been reminded that she was the airborne spare for Black Buck 5 and 6. That being the case I assume that she had modified pylons fitted with launchers for the AGM-45s but I cannot find any images to support this. Does anyone know if this was the case and/or have any images to support it? Thank you all.
  2. Paint It Black … or white or both That says it all really: the main colour scheme should be black, or white, or a combination of the two (combination yes, so not "I've combined the two colours by mixing them to get US Navy light grey"). A black Black Widow, a white Gustav, a waterline Titanic, a white stealthy Mercedes camper van (with full interior detail of course), a SWAT officer, a UN APC, a black Blackhawk, a White Scars Dreadnought, you name it. Bonus points if you manage to work Rolling Stones into your theme. I’ll finally get started on my Josef Jacobs triplanes, perhaps on an airfield that has a couple of boulders. Anyone else interested to paint it black? @48-Alone-Is-Great @Corsairfoxfouruncle @Andwil @Marklo @CliffB @dnl42 @zebra @gingerbob @Redstaff @Adam Poultney @Col. @Paul J ...
  3. Rejoining with this Airfix Chipmunk, bought yesterday at IPMS Avon show, Thornbury. A great day. And my ATC powered flying log book page, showing 2 AEFs in 486 in 1975. It was red, white and grey in 1975, but hey-ho. AND I've got another plan for a RW&G Chippie with my 1/48 kit. That flight in WP697 on 17 Sept 1977. The pilot was a reserve officer, who was also a teacher at my school. My Tech Drawing teacher.
  4. And when I say black I mean BLACK. So when you thin it or mix it with white you don't end up with blue grey or green grey or any other shade of grey (keep the jokes to yourself please this is a family show 🤣😜) So black, proper black, 100% black, nothing added, no blues or such just black. So black? Is there one? BLACK! Tah A
  5. Hi chaps, I'm working on my 1970's Kenner C3-P0 and planning to paint it using Alclad II Gold, however I'm struggling with what undercoat to use. Question: Has anyone used Halfords Gloss black as an undercoat for Alclad II ?? I've been looking and reading various tips and tricks but I thought I would ask to. The Gold needs a gloss black undercoat. I prime my models using Halfords standard car body grey primer - an acrylic that needs cellulose thinners to clean up and I can over paint this with Humbrol Enamels as I've been doing for years without issue. So I did some tests. Test one - was to paint over the grey with Humbrol gloss black. I've left that for about 12 hours and then tried the Alclad and it immediately reacted and crazed the surface. Odd this as I had heard good things about using Humbrol gloss black to undercoat for Alclad. Test two - was to use Alclad's own gloss undercoat (over the grey) and then gold - this seems to work well but I have read lots of people say that the Alclad black does not dry at all so I'm worried about using thins combination. Test three - was using Halfords satin bumper black over the grey (random choice as I had it on the bench) and this also worked very well. Any suggestions would be great;y received. Kind regards Karl
  6. I know this topic has been aired before, but it wasn't dealt with in a particularly conclusive manner. I'm looking at painting an X-20 Dynasoar, which had an all-black thermal paint scheme, similar to the SR-71, at least for our purposes, and was wondering how best to go about it. Would it be a case of praying it flat back and then layering it up with enough Klear to support decals, then bringing it back down with flat varnish? Or are there more elaborate ways that people can recommend? TIA.
  7. I love birthdays! No sprue shots, sorry, but there are heaps around on the internet. Straight into it! Instrument panel: And sink marks filled: Here the instrument panel is dry fitted onto the console, on the floor of the heli. Assembled the Sea Skua missiles And Mk 11 depth charges. At least that's what the instructions say, but the blurb on the side of the box says something about Sting Ray torpedoes, so I'm not sure what they are!? (I'm no expert on such things!) The decals look fun: I want to do the black cats version though, so I probably have to invest in some decal-settling solutions. Then I noticed this: A crack on the otherwise crystal-clear parts... Spares part has been requested! Thanks for looking!
  8. Hello one and all, Kit manufacture: Airfix Scale: 1/72 Type: British Aerospace Hawk T.Mk.1, No.208 ® Squadron, Royal Air Force Valley, 2009 Extras used: none straight out of the box Paints and colours used: Vallejo model air black and gloss varnish Other info: I've just finished putting together this little diorama for the RAF BF Hawk, I enjoyed building the kit, quite happy with it even though it is no way near the standard of most models on the forum. The kit went together nicely apart from the undercarriage doors aren't flush with the rest of the fuselage and wing. 20160902-03.jpg by Neal, on Flickr 20160902-05.jpg by Neal, on Flickr 20160902-06.jpg by Neal, on Flickr 20160902-07.jpg by Neal, on Flickr 20160902-08.jpg by Neal, on Flickr 20160902-09.jpg by Neal, on Flickr 20160902-11.jpg by Neal, on Flickr 20160902-12.jpg by Neal, on Flickr Thanks for looking, any feedback is welcome.
  9. Hi everyone. Recently finished motorcycle, made on sort of comission. Sort of, as comissioned by my brother in law as he has this motorcycle and wanted it's minature on his shelf somewhere. Colour scheme is as on the real thing. Just some minor differences as he has slighlty newer version. Anyways, the kit was quite old. Moulds were average, especially the chromed ones. Aluminium paint is Alclad2, Semi Gloss Black is Revell Acrylics. I must say that working on the satin finish goes to the top 3 of my most hated paints..Every piece of dust is like a big flashing sign saying "You amateur, look what you've done!".. Overall I'm happy with the result. Now it goes on some shows and then on the shelf:) Thanks! Bart
  10. Topic title lost on non Spinal Tap fans I would think (here if interested) but in essence I want to do the opposite to the black refered in the clip. I have read that, in scale, black is rarely true black. I want to paint a Tucano in black and, given the scale arguement, wonder what the best proprietry black or mix to use would be? Cheers
  11. Hi Everyone, Here is my build for the F-14 Tomcat II Group Build. I have selected a Revell 1/144 kit of an F-14A Tomcat in the Vandy One black scheme. Here is a photo of the actual jet, I have not taken any pictures of the sprues yet as the kit is drying after a wash in the sink with washing up liquid to prepare the kit for painting. Actual jet : I will update this post with a photo of the sprues a bit later on. Rick
  12. Hello guys and girls! Just finished what has to be the best model I have every built! Ever so proud of it! Also first time I tried out using Humbrol weathering wash, (First time using a wash at all!) Also first time using Humbrol Clear, and it works a charm! The clever people say that it is basically the same as Johnsons Klear. Anyway, back to the model. It went together ever so nicely, and only took a few days to complete, and that was to my own surprise rather quick compared to what I normally do! But I just could not leave this model! So, this is how it turned out. _DSC0774 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0775 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0776 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0777 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0778 by Matcham11, on Flickr _DSC0779 by Matcham11, on Flickr Robin
