  1. Airfix 1/48 Hawker Hunter F4 Belgian AF It’s my first 1/48 scale aircraft and first Hunter - built as a tribute to a late club member who loved the type. It’s been a fun build. eduard etch cockpit detail and some Aerocraft resin bits.
  2. These are all old builds, and in retrospect should have been posted at the beginning of these series. They often represent the first, hesitant steps on scratchbuilding. Here is another from 2007, 12 years ago (original text as posted then): With a Span of 9.2 meters and a length of 6 meters, this cute little plane was designed in Belgium to carry small perishable cargo in short hops (many of the little flowers carried by Poirot in his tussy-mussy were transported by this plane). Its simple lines and somewhat funny proportions make it a very good candidate for scratch. It flew for a short time in 1931 and left us with a smart, chubby and stumpy appearance that is hard to resist. 20's and 30's of are a vast field of aviation glamor, populated with remarkable designs where you can find attractive, lesser known types that can widen the scope of your modeling subjects. I hope the charm of this son of the Golden Era will be for you as attractive as it is for me.
  3. Hello, I'm looking for information on the Belgian Mirage 5BA during the 80's. In the specific what kind of weapon load could carry, in addition to the two huge 1700L fuel tanks. I found some pics of Mirage 5BA with LAU rocket pod under the external wing pylons, but nothing else. During the Desert Storm some of the 5BA were deployed in Turkey carrying 2 AIM-9J Sidewinder. I saw a picture of a Mirage 5BA in a museum surrounded by different bomb loads like Snakeye bombs, BL755 cluster … Also I'm looking for some good photos of the Mirage 5BA nose, especially the lower part. Thanks in advance. CIAO! Piero
  4. Hi all, I have one which I should have finished a long time ago. It was actually my first kit after my 33 years of hibernation from the hobby. I thought this new tool Hurricane will be a quick and easy build, so ideal to build as a first. Well, it didn't turn out to be a quick build and neither an easy build. So I better do a KUTA on it and get it finished. I most likely build it as H33. H33 was shot down while intercepting a Do-17 during the phoney war. On the other hand, H24 would also be a nice choice. Because it does have an additional marking underneath the front cockpit window. Does anyone know what this additional marking represents? Also I would think that the squadron marking circle with white text should be brown (with black outlines) and not all black. Airfix got it partial right in regards to the colour, but it is too small in size. By the way, this link and this link have lots of information on Belgian Air Force Hurricanes. This build made a short guest appearance in my BoB GB with my 1/48 Hurricane: And that is where it is at the moment. So still a bit to do on it! With a silver dope on the underside, I would appreciate any suggestions for airbrushing this (what paint works well for this). Thanks, Peter
  5. On August 21st, 2015, the Belgian Air Component NH90 NFH Caimans have reached their Initial Operation Capability (IOC) and were declared "being able to participate in the SAR (SATER & SAMAR) role". From Monday August 24th they will partly replace the ageing Sea King Mk.48 in the SAR H24 alert role at Koksijde airbase (EBFN). The 40 Sqn HELI currently operates 3x NH90 NHF (RN-01, RN-02 & RN-03), 3x Sea King Mk.48 (RS-02, RS-04 & RS-05) as well as 3x Alouette III (M-1, M-2 & M-3). A fourth - and last - NH90 NFH (RN-04) will be delivered in April 2016. It's planned to fully replace the Sea King by late 2018 and the Alouette III by 2021. V.P.
  6. Greetings all This is my latest completion, built over in the Seaking STGB but also thought I’d share the completed article here. It is the Revell 1:72 Seaking Mk6 kit modified to Mk 48 standard and built to represent RS05 of the Belgian Air Force. She is depicted in her anniversary markings which are quite colourful and make a difference to the usual grey Seakings. I chose this version because way back when (about 10 years ago) when I work for the Armed Forces Premier aircraft repair unit – MASU (other units are available but not quite as good! ) – I spent 3 months in Koksijde repairing the main lift frames. Now Koksijde is a beautiful seaside resort which is kicking in the summer, but I was there in mid-winter and it was dead but still managed to have a blast and the locals were so good to us, but I digress… Some of the work carried out was: Remodelled seats to resemble the real things and not dining chairs Scratch built rear cabin area to fill it full of SAR equipment Scratch built Personnel door area to resemble the electronics rack Strake replaced with fine aluminium shim Sponsons boxed in and landing gear drilled out Totally remodeled rescue hoist to accommodate the plate on this version The engine intakes and exhausts are blanked but RBF flags have blown off! Scratch built camera mount – camera to be fitted at a later date, it’s still in the ‘workshop’ Grab handles fitted above windows Lower personnel door and various etch gleaned from old Airwaves and PP Areoparts sets Upper personnel door scratched She was finished off in Model Master Acrylics and the decals are an excellent set from Daco decals. Canopy inside is a bit pants due to overspray from poor masking but to take the canopy off to correct it would have been a pain so have decided to leave it. A couple of notes post pictures: The fuel jettison pipe is now fitted! The rotor blade droop looks poor in the phots (especially the rear one) and has been corrected. Also missing is an aerial on the nose (glidescope I think) which I need to knock up (or steal from the Mk 4 kit when that comes out). Phots taken in my dingy basement with my tacky camera (its persisting down outside) so not the best. Anyhoo the pics……… And here is the wip http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234975429-whl-seaking-rs-05-belgian-sar/ Cheers now Bob
  7. Goodmorning fellow modellers! First post in the Ready for Inspection corner! Been wanting to build a Mirage V in the lovely SEA camo for a long time. Only the fonderie miniatures kit with extra resin was available. But last year Italeri released a Mirage III pack which gave me the option to build a Belgian Mirage V. The Mirage is an early model, this particular Mirage crashed in Holland in 1977. I built the plane white/grey belly and SEA camo on top. The model is completely rescribed and further more a resin MB Mk.7 seat was added together with an Air Master brass pitot tube. Paints are Vallejo. Together with a French Mirage IIIE (hobby boss kit) Hope you like'm Evert
  8. Hi, I was lucky enough to be at the RIAT airshow last weekend and was mightily impressed with the Belgian display F16 A , both the flying routine and the colour scheme. Now, Syhart do an excellent set of decals so I fancy a go at this, ideally in 1/72. However, I would also like to try the new tamiya F-16 kit but this is a C/J variant. Not being an expert on F-16's, are there any major external differences between the A and C variants, at least for an airshow display plane? Would I get away with it? Thanks
