  1. Hi all Here is the excellent Airfix BLACKBURN BUCCANEER S.2C in 1:72 scale this kit has been sat on my shelf of doom part built for at least 2 years having lost my mojo at the time! anyway the project I’m on at the moment (Trumpter 1:48 L-39) stalled due waiting for the correct paints to arrive so I decided to get the Buccaneer off the shelf and get it finished 👍 the only extras i added to the kit was a Eduard cockpit Photo Etch set! I chose to do one from the kit markings options XV154 of no.809 NAS HMS Ark Royal in 1972 Tamiya paints used throughout The extra dark sea grey I used Tamiya XF-54 Dark Sea Grey mixed with XF-18 Medium Blue a quite enjoyable build thanks for looking and happy modelling
  2. Here is my 12th completion for the year, 19 Squadron English Electric Lightning, Gutersloh, late 1974. Airfix 1/72 with Barracuda Cast seat and Master pitot. Finished with Hataka acrylics and Vallejo metalcolours. Built for the Interceptors a Group build. Thanks for looking. AW
  3. Yes indeed, an Airfix 109 in 1/72! Built for the recent Battle of Britain 80th GB here on the forum, the build thread is here but to recap: Kit: Airfix 1/72 Messerschmitt Bf109E-4 (new boxing A01008A) finished as an E-3 Build: OOB with masking tape for seat belts Paints: Tamiya & Revell Acrylics. Klear, Flory Model wash; Oil weathering; W&N Matt Varnish Decals: Southern Expo Battle of Britain 70th Anniversary - 'White 2" of 4./JG51 from August 1940 Notes: According to the decal notes, this a/c flown by Ofw. Johann Illner collided with a Spitfire flown by Al Deere on 9 July 1940 but managed to return to France. Illner was later shot down over England in November that year and spent the rest of the war as a POW. 4. Hello All, This is the build I have been looking forwards to this year. It will be of the most flamboyantly liveried Hurricane from my Grandad's squadron, which had an RAF roundel on the spinner and a lightning strike down the side of the fuselage. It appears the squadron rotated several times between Tangmere and Exeter during the Battle of Britain and the clearest photo I have seen comes from Exeter: The photo below is linked from another Britmodeller thread This is the kit I will be using: IMG_20200707_102503_658 by OutcastJoel, on Flickr In addition to the kit which was a rather awesome present from my parents, I have a few extras: -Yahu Instrument Panel. -HGW fabric seatbelts. -Montex Mask for the scheme (and then another mini mask for the canopy because the scheme one was designed for the trumpy kit and so I suspect might have some slight fit issues). -Tamiya pit crew who will be subject to mild surgery to make them into RAF ground crew. I also have this scheme in 1/72 so may do an Arma Hobbies version of this same aircraft as a pick me up if this turns into too much of a slog. Mostly though, I am just excited to get the Friday and get started on my biggest build to date!
  5. Old 1975 tooling of airfix fouga magister. For such an old model surprisingly good fits and still good decals!
  6. Anther warbird with this SeaHurricane build in 2018 an painted during the lockdown. Lot of memories as watching the Airfix’s logo… I added somme missing détails but the kit is a good base. I took a real pleasure in painting the camo and wheathering it See you! Fabrice https://www.facebook.com/Fabrice-Simon-104518141316306
  7. So this was my other project to get me back into modelling after a short break. I purchased this one from Aldi last Christmas but it came with the wrong decals, I did contact Airfix and to be fair they did send out the correct decals. This is my tribute to the Tuskegee airmen ( I love that film), I don't know whether this is a re-tool but as with my previous Mustang it went together like a dream. I had two problems with both builds, having completed both builds I gave both models a couple of coats of Pledge multi surface polish and then airbrushed Tamiya Matt to the Spitfire and Semi Gloss to the Mustang and both models had what I can only call a white bloom all over them, having sorted out that problem I then varnished using Galeria and had no problems, I will never use the Tamiya varnish again! The other problems I encountered was with the canopies, normally I use PVA but this time I used Tamaya thin and it wicked upwards, that's a mistake I won't make again. Anyway, here it is, as usual all comments and critisisms are welcome. Thanks for looking.
  8. Howdy Sherman fans - WARNING... ....this post contains a very small and very basic kit from around 1961... I've been building this in the Vintage Airfix GB - but wanted to share it here too - where I might get some more comments from the 'proper' AFV 'experts'... It started out as a Sherman Crab - with a flail attachment - but I'm going to use that on something else. It was a very naïve kit with a few challenges that I as a newbie hadn't tackled before - like rubber tracks. I messed about with it a lot, adding clean air filters at the back / reversing the hatch covers / adding gun cleaning rods / replacing lifting hooks / adding track armour and side armour plates / creating a radio back box with jerry can and finally a load of aerials - as befits a command tank - oh and not forgetting a tank commander himself. The WIP thread is here - if you want to take a look... I hope you like it - Steve
  9. Another finish for 2018: the not so delightful Airfix 1/72 109E in the colours of Hans Ohly of JG53. Some artistic license re the over-painted swastika and I always wanted to see what an 109E would look like with a pointy spinner. A bit of silliness with a home made stand and tiny magnets as I hate drilled holes in models. Finally still getting to grips with my Nikon D850 and photography in general, will update these with better shots when my tired brain can comprehend more. WIP here Some ropey last minute fixes, especially on the aerial and a replacement cannon but it looks passable. Cheers Anil EDIT: uploaded new pictures 13 December 2018
  10. Hi folk's,as mentioned in chat It's been a good six month's since I did a 1/48 scale kit and nearly as long since I did anything other than a Matchbox or Frog aircraft kit.As a lover of Airfix's newer tool 1/48 kit it was a logical choice for this GB and a return to this scale. Love the box art on this issue, the kit is well known to most now and there are a few incarnation's in this GB,I want to take my time with this one and won't start till the Hunter's done which will be a week or two.
  11. Hello fellow modellers. Here is my 2nd build. It's the Airfix 1/72 Hurricane Mk I in Belgian colors. This one is a gift for my father who is no modeller but still for a good part responsible for me coming back to the hobby. Thanks Dad, I love you. It’s an OOB build as per instructions except for the later type exhausts (as all Belgian Hurricanes had been retrofitted with these before may 1940). No weathering as my father prefers everything to be neat and tidy (a bad excuse for my laziness, isn’t it?). I used Eduard superfabric seatbelts (RAF early set). Not as realistic as the metal ones but far easier to place. A very nice kit. I just had problems aligning the upper and lower wing parts and placing the landing gear required to be quite careful. I’m not completely happy with the result as I insisted to fit the canopy in an open position, so I made a crack in it and I was heavy handed with the glue so that it affected the clear part and the paint under it. But my main goal was achieved, as it simply was a thinner and more even paint coat than on the P-40. It was airbrushed with my H&S Evolution Silverline (0.2 needle) and my “usual suspects” Gunze and Tamiya acrylics. Primer: Stynylrez grey Camo: Gunze H73 (dark green), H72 (dark earth); underside: Tamiya XF16 (flat aluminium) Cockpit: Tamiya XF71 Clear coat: Gunze H20 (flat clear) As said, all mishaps and mistakes are mine. Still I hope you'll enjoy it. Fire at will!
  12. This may be a foolish move but as my Eduard Fokker E.II appears to be approaching the finish line and we still have some time to go I thought I'd do another build for this GB. Inspecting the stash brought this kit to the surface. I picked this up for I think £15 recently from the Works. I have never actually modelled a Japanese aircraft before but the Zero is a fine looking plane so I plan to give it a go here. Its a starter set so only one schemes offered being a plane flown by Lieutenant Saburo Shindo from carrier Akagi at Pearl Harbour on December 7th 1941. As I am looking for a nice easy build after all the photo etch of the Fokker E.II am going to build it OOTB. Sprue shots...all looks very tidy. Thanks for looking. Dave
  13. My next build will be my first (but not last) from the Xtradecals X72117 'RAF Battle of Britain' sheet. Having completed the Hurricane (WiP here) from this: the next obvious selection is the Spitfire. Confusingly the box depicts 'Sailor' Milan's Mk1a but the instructions refer to a MkII so I shall put my fingers in my ears, go 'la la la'* and carry on, continuing my ignorance. Which scheme? I really like the white / night on K9867 but fear that it's capture on 23 May '40 make it too early. Next on the sheet is K9899 and I've read Robert's thread with interest... that's off the list then as I don't have the paint. I'll therefore go for X4474 QV-I from 19 Sqn, flown by Sgt Jennings, which I hope will just squeeze in (otherwise why is it on the sheet??!!). More research required on this Spit, and Sgt Jennings. Edit: Just realised that looks like I'm chanting the variant; perhaps I should have typed 'lah lah lah'?! And, of course, cursed the auto-correct that changed it back again!
  14. Hi everyone. It is my first posting. I thinks, airfix new 1/72 scale airplane series are fantastic kits It work in 2013 summer. I hope you like this
  15. So here is my entry for the GB. Its the new tool Airfix 1/72 Fw-190 A8. This one is the gift set version, so has different markings, and I picked it up for the extortionate sum of £4.99 in Aldi a couple of weeks ago. Its going to be built OOB except for a couple of additional decals on the tail plane.
