  1. I have a bundle of Seafires in the stash and I thought a good addition to this GB would be a pair of the FAA's first high speed interceptors, a pair of Seafire MkIb's. Although different boxings these are the same kit. And although they say Admiral, the bags containing the kit inside the box says AZ Models. I've already built one earlier this year in the Spitfire GB, finished as this unusual blue version. This pair will be more conventional. Each boxing gives two different options but in one of the boxings the two options are for 2nd line squadrons. I'll have a look through the stash for some aftermarket transfers. Although I think early Seafires, particularly the MkI are not well served. I do have at least a week before the start, and it'll be more than a few weeks after that before the hot water comes out. I will be doing one as the 885 NAS example from HMS Formidable.
  2. Dear All, Have just come across a Seafire 1b 72nd scale kit for sale and it's made by a company I've never had any experience of called Admiral so just wondered if anyone can shed any light on it or the general quality of their offerings. I'm interested in it but not if it's of poor quality. Regards Colin.
  3. Hi All, With this post I'm finishing the series of trainer aircraft I have recently completed. This is the model of an aircraft that remains pretty obscure type, although it was the most numerous trainer aircraft of the USAAF during the WWII. This is a model of a Valiant, but not of the Valiant the British modelling community expects to see 😉 So here you go - Vultee "the Vibrator" Valiant BT-13: The 1/72 kit is produced under Admiral label by AZ Models of Czech Republic. Construction was fully out of the box except for aerial wiring and exhaust pipe. Actually, I do not think any aftermarket exists for this kit. At the same time the box includes some nice goodies such as PE fret with instrument panels, seat belts, gear scissors, and flaps hinges. Also several resin parts are provided including engine and engine cowling, cockpit struts, aerial mast and pitot tube (both very fragile!). Decal sheets has three options - two for Navy SNV variant and a very colourful USAAF option. Construction was not shake and bake however without major issues. Some fitting was required for cockpit arrangement. Instruction is not very clear so I relied on photo references to understand where rear seat instrument panel cover should be placed and subsequently where seats, instruments panels etc should be located. Also photos helped to understand how exactly internal struts in the cockpit should look like. Be mindful to dry fit all these structures to make sure canopy fits later. Expectedly canopy was not a perfect match to the fuselage especially on its ends. I had to add some plastic stripes on the rear side to make sure canopy fits okay. Wing to fuselage jount was good. Engine construction is a bit tricky. There is nothing inside the cowling to attach the engine. Also engine is smaller than the cowling internal diameter. I attached a wider circular plastic sheet to the engine back side so that engine firmly sits on the appropriate place. Fragile aerial mast was replaced with a brass tube. Plastic exhaust pipe is useless so I replaced it with a wider brass pipe. Landing lights are provided in the kit and worked good. Masking canopy was huge fun. As you can see windows are not at all rectangular so this design was adding a bit of entertainment. Luckily now there is a Peewit masking set available but I was too quick to assemble my model Painting is made with Tamiya yellow, Vallejo blue and Hobby Color red and olive drab. Model is covered with Future and probably looks very polished. Let's think cadets were diligently washing their machines. Lastly there are some group shots. First is for size comparison next to a Hurricane. Valiant was not a small aircraft at all! Second is with two other yellow-wing peers that I have in collection: And the last is with all other trainer aircraft I have. I showed a group of three of them recently. Here is the complete bright and colourful trainer collection. Hope you enjoyed! Best regards, Dennis
  4. I've finally got almost everything cleared off my workspace and am ready to join in the GB in an attempt to reduce my stash of 30 Seafires and Spitfires. The first to come to the top of the pile is this Admiral boxing of a MkIb with a Vokes filter. I've made an Admiral late Mark Seafire before and it wasn't too bad, but like all Seafires/Spitfires you do have to be careful with the wing/fuselage joint. There are two offerings in the box, a standard aircraft of 885 NAS from HMS Formidable and a one off royal blue scheme. I rather fancy the latter as the standard schemes of Seafires are very similar. the contents are nice, crisply moulded on two sprues. Straightforward instructions over a few pages. Nice nice set of stencils, some etch for the arrestor hook area and a small canopy. But crucially no transfers. Luckily, I have these in the stash. Phew.
  5. Hello, As the title suggests, I am looking to see if any manufacturer makes a mask set for the AZ wildcat series. I have the F4F-3 and the FM-2 Wildcats and if no mask set has been made are there alternatives that would be very close? Thank you, Jeffers.
  6. While waiting for the parts for my Vampire build to arrive I have started this kit. The Hannants web site states this is NOT Valom. Valom kits must be scary. I like Devastators. Some pics. I have made a start on the interior and have finished the torpedo. I will post some pictures tomorrow. Thanks for looking. Stephen
  7. Source: http://modelweb.modelforum.cz/2013/10/27/novinky-admiral-na-listopad-2013/?lang=CS Admiral is to release a 1/72nd Airspedd AS.10 Oxford Mk.1/.2 family - ref. ADM7233, ADM7234 & ADM7235. Release expected in November 2013. A later boxing (December 2013?) will include Israel, SAAF, French & Czechoslovak decals. V.P.
  8. Starting this kit is an attempt at regaining my interest in modeling. Lost interest due to the mad cow attack and my father having a heart attack. His time is up, he is 82 smoked for 70 years, but has excellent lungs. According to Admiral's instructions you can build an F4F-3, F4F-3A, F4F-3P and a Martlett Mk III and I think if you don't cut the fuselage you can build a Martlett Mk I. This is the first step - cut the fuselage. I am not so sure of the second cut though. I am wondering if these instructions a for their FM2. Thanks for looking. Stephen
  9. New Admiral/AZ Model 1/72nd kit is the Vultee BT-13/SNV-1 Valiant. Release expected in June 2014 Source: http://modelweb.modelforum.cz/2014/06/06/novinky-admiral-na-cerven-2014/?lang=CS Three boxing on approach Ref. ADM7237 Ref. ADM7238 Ref.ADM7239 V.P.
  10. Here is my first build for this GB - an Airspeed Oxford. I'm not sure whether the kit is by AZ Models or Admiral. The box has both logos so I assume the two companies are different arms of the same concern. This is the box top. And these are the two main sprues. Also in this kit is a transparent sprue and a selection of resin details. It looks to be a lovely little kit. The injection moulded parts have nice detail, although there is a very small amount of flash in some places. However, that is entirely consistent with the short-run nature of the kit. I will be building the box top option, V3354 of 14 SFTS based at Cranfield in 1940. I'm not convinced about the style of the fuselage and underwing serials included on the nice decal sheet, but they should be easily replaceable from general sheets. This is going to be fun!
