  1. Revell A350-900 1/144 'Skyteam' Vietnam Airlines On first impressions I thought this was quite an ugly aircraft but having seen it recently at Miami airport in Qatar airways colours I was quite surprised to see how elegant an aircraft it actually is. It's size is also quite deceiving especially in comparison to similar widebodies. Anyway I decided to buy the kit by Revell. It's a typical Revell kit, a lot cruder than zvezda with quite a lot of excess plastic clinging to numerous parts but nevertheless nicely detailed. One wing is warped which is nice so I've had to deal with that before i do anything by heating the plastic and laying some weight on it overnight. The kit comes with Lufthansa colours which i noted that all Lufthansa a350s have a SATCOM (or wifi not sure) antenna but the kit does not come with one Braz sell a few antenna's but knowing which one is a bit of a nightmare. Braz sell the 'SatCom CNA-2102 Antenna' for widebody airliners but it doesn't look right on reference shots of the A350. Does anyone know which type of antenna the A350 uses?? (placed near the tail) the obvious choice would be to make one but I rather find out if Braz do one for the sake of perfection. Progress and pics to follow.....
  2. In 2019 Zvezda is to release a 1/144th Airbus A350-1000 kit - ref. Source: Zvezda catalog 2019 V.P.
  3. Airbus A350 Thai Airways. 1:144 Revel kit with 26 Decals. I bought this kit when it first came out a few years ago, in the prototype scheme. I didn't much fancy doing that, so waited for some aftermarket producers to come out with some alternatives. Having a liking for all things Thai, I bought these decals from Two Six when they came out. I started the model a year ago, and more or less finished it by June of last year. It has been sitting on the workbench ever since, waiting for the aerials to be fitted. I'm having a bit of a purge of 'nearly finished' models on the bench, and this is the first one to be completed. The kit itself is excellent, the fit is amazing, one of the best I've ever worked on. The engine fans actually rotate if you blow on them. I haven't even glued the wings on, they push fit in and stay in place so well, that it gives me the option to detach them for storage. Now, I've got a couple of Airfix lightnings, a Wingnut Wings Albatros, an Eduard Pfalz, an Airfix DC-3, an Authentic Airliners 707, and two Group build 737's to be getting on with before the bench is clear. Anyway, after a long delay, this one is at last complete. I hope you like it. A couple of 'With something else' shots. It it a huge aeroplane, much bigger than I realised. Two regularly seen at Suvarnabhumi airport, teh A350 and an A320 of Bangkok Air Pretty much the same size as a 747, it's only slightly smaller; And the fit is so good I've left the wings detachable for storage; Thanks for looking, John
  4. Let me just start with a warning : Now we've got that out of the way..... ....Ethiopian Airlines are due to take delivery of their first Airbus A350 next month but I couldn't wait that long. I finished off Revell's A350 with a mixture of F-dcal markings (FD144-684) and the kit's stencils : The standard 4x4 walkaround : Of course, the "with something else" pic just had to be with one of the A350's predecessors : I'm afraid I really struggled with this kit and it took far too long to complete. (Having said that, I managed to drag mine over the finish line before Trojan Thunder did (Come on Ray ! We're still waiting to see your A350 in Finnair markings ! )) Anyway, it's back to the bench now to continue work on yet another jet with no cheatline ! (This one has a story to it and a bit of a twist with the presentation, so stay tuned) Thanks for looking. mike
  5. Well, it's a new year, so why not a new WIP? I wasn't initially going to do this thread, so I've already made some progress. I started by painting the inside of the fuselage matt black and fitting the clear window parts. Following this the main and nose gear bays and the flightdeck were painted and installed. After joining the fuselage halves, I fitted the belly plate and the wings. The fit has been very good so far - only two small patches of filler have been needed. A350 by Caution Wake Turbulence, on Flickr The windscreen is very slightly under-sized, but after painting the edge with black paint, I able to make a good join using some microscale crystal clear. I cut the mask using the windscreen from a second kit. A350 Nose by Caution Wake Turbulence, on Flickr I've masked the cabin windows with Microscale Micro Mask, applied using a short length of 0.5mm styrene rod mounted in my pin vice, which seemed to work better than a cocktail stick. A350 Windows by Caution Wake Turbulence, on Flickr It's a bit of a pain having to fit the nose gear at the beginning, but it hasn't broken off.....yet! With some thought, you could probably modify it to fit at the end. A350 Nose Gear by Caution Wake Turbulence, on Flickr It took a little bit of fettling to match the curvature of the fuselage and the belly plate, but with a little sanding and some rescribing, I'm quite pleased with the result. A350 Belly by Caution Wake Turbulence, on Flickr I decided to add a little detail to the main gear.... A350 Main Gear by Caution Wake Turbulence, on Flickr I've been experimenting with various shades of Alclad on the engines.... More or less successfully. There are a couple of sink marks on the engine cowling to be filled. A350 Engine by Caution Wake Turbulence, on Flickr I'm reasonably pleased with the engine fans, although the blade spacing is a bit uneven. Trent XWB Fan by Caution Wake Turbulence, on Flickr As ever, Revell's painting instructions seem to have only a loose relationship with reality... I have to say, despite some people's misgivings, the A350 is really growing on me! Thinking about doing a second in Virgin colours if my A330 decals will fit. More as small people permit..... Happy New Year, Andrew
