To celebrate its 50th birthday,Lufthabsa painted one of their A321s in this very attractive retro livery. Revell was of course to the service and provided a reissue of their A321 kit with the retro decal set. They even served both modelling fractions,those who want window decals and those who like open windows,by providing 2 sets of cheatlines. I went for the open window version,I only had to use a decal for the cockpit as I cracked the clear part while installing it. The build is straight forward,everything fits nicely. For the paints,a mix of Revell enamels,Testors and Gunze was used. The underbelly is a mix of Revell aluminium with Revell grey 374. Its a bit tricky to get it right. Revell tells you to paint it entirely aluminium but as the Airbus is more compisite material than metal,its completely wrong. The decals fit very well,only around the nose a few touch ups are required. Another airliner with a special livery can ve added to the collection.😊 Thanks for looking Alex

Another great release from Revell is the A321 in the special livery of Austrian Airlines,celebrating the 1000th anniversary of the Austrian republic in 1996. The A321 wears the faces of the most iconic persons of Austria from the past to present (1996) The kit is well known and needs no further introduction. The highlight of the kit is clearly the decal set,which is top quality and fits on the kit like a treat. Painting is straight forward,all white fuselage (Gunze primer 1500) The wings are painted with Testors aircraft grey mixed with white,corogard panels are Revell 374 grey mixed with a few drops aluminium. The cockpit window is a decal from a PAS decal set,the cabin windows and all the rest are from the kit. Thanks for looking Alex -
I'm the middle of the above 1/144 kit and have been putting off one job as long as possible.... Cockpit glazing! Whilst it's good the way that Revell have designed the glazing as a 'cap' to be fitted, the cockpit windows are just a tad too close to the edge to be able to safely glue, and blend in easily. Any tips for this? Or am I just going to have to bite the bullet and use the black pseudo window decals provided on the sheet after sanding back? (First and possibly only 144 scale kit as being built solely for a club comp!)

Completed my COVID isolation project (though I think my cat has run of with some of the landing gear, so technically it's not done, but whatever) Pretty pleased with it, these revell neo kits are great! I've retained the spare P&W engines to upgrade an old A319 kit to a neo (to come soon) I made it with minimal equipment and only spray cans, so the quality could only go so far, but I'm pleased with how it's turned out. I had a nice pair of flights with TAP a few month ago on this aircraft so thought I'd replicate it. Ps: don't touch the aircraft, it's probably covered in Corona. Starting a new build, thought it might get interesting. Hopefully I'll get some relief after building some Eastern Express 'no fit no sense' kits. This is called the ultimate kit with the flaps, gear and even opened door options, so I'll try to go with the flaps down/doors closed/struts compressed config, decal windows, nothing too fancy. It's a total mess in the box, an unidentifiable pile of leading and trailing edges, total of six engines (in case what?) 3 IAE and 3 CFM, probably due to technological reasons for conversion from A320 to A321. Any advice is welcome while I'm sorting it out. Decals are from aerodeka.ru website, they're completely new to me and I'm excited to check them out. But the guy was nice enough to me to make A320->A321 Niki livery conversion at no cost, we'll see. Cheers, Steve

I present my Revell Airbus A321neo in the Hawaiian livery N202HA. Pualani looks truly stunning on this striking livery, with a vibrant blend of colour, it truly is the ‘flower of the sky’. This lovely bird is powered by the Pratt & Whitney PurePower Geared Turbofan (GTF) engines, and with Airbus’s latest aerodynamics it makes the A321neo one of the most fuel efficient aircraft in the series. They are used on routes from the Hawaiian Islands to the West coast of the USA in a 2 class configuration with its ETOPS rating. The build was OOB with the decals coming from Jon at 8A Decals and Authentic Airliners. The Revell A321neo kit is excellent, and I like the changes they have made to the original A321 kit. With the cockpit canopy, it helps provide a better fit and is a lot less fiddlier, the etching detailing is a lot more detailed as well, and the 3D door skirts is a nice feature. The wing box assembly is also very similar to the Zvezda Airbus kits, and this also helps to eliminate the need for trimming, fitting and adjusting as required. I also like the new way of attaching the horizontal stabilisers, it helps to provide a much better and cleaner fit all round. The kit comes with both the Pratt & Whitney GTF and the CFM Leap engine options, and also 3 different satcom antennas (although Hawaiian doesn’t have one on their current A321neo fleet). The paints used were Halfords Appliance White for the fuselage & Engine Nacelles, Holts Grey for the Wings and stabs and my own blend of Revell Aqua 374 for the coroguard. The metals and tyres are a mix of Revell Aqua colours. The decals are truly stunning with a high attention to detail, and very vibrant colours. They fit excellently to the model, and really help to bring this ship to life. The Revell kit decals are as excellent as usual from Daco. I think this may be one of my favourite models I’ve made, and it’s inspiring me to build more of the Neo kits. I present my Zvezda A321 in the delightful Egyptair livery SU-GBT. It’s a simple, yet sophisticated looking livery that they adopted in 2008. The build was OOB, with the aftermarket decals supplied by Ray at 26Decals and Authentic Airliner Cockpit and Cabin Decals. One thing I do like with the Zvezda Airbus kits is that they have the correct scale for the winglets, which saves having to make your own or purchase some from Braz. As with my other Zvezda kits the fit is excellent and only minimal filling is required, it even comes with the clear windows which are ok, but are incredibly thin. It also, like the A320 kit, has the option to have the flaps/slats extended and also to have the L1 door open with a detailed internal FWD Galley area. There is also a detailed cockpit, but I opted for filling the windscreen and using the AA decals. Being an all over white fuselage and engine nacelles, this was achieved using Halfords White Rattle Can Primer and then brush painted using Humbrol Gloss White. The wings and horizontal stabilisers are Revell Aqua 371 and my own mix of lightened Revell Aqua 374 for the coroguard sections with Revell Aqua 99 leading edges. I initially used the ‘blacked’ out windows, and then went over them with the AA ones after falling in love with them while building my Qatar 787. Luckily they aligned ok over the old ones, to avoid damaging the ‘main’ decals trying to remove them. Hopefully I have managed to bring her to life a little. I present the Revell A321 in the current colours of Iberia. Apart from replacement winglets and a few small details the build is OOB. I have an ongoing, very long term project to build at least one aircraft from each of the current and former European national carriers and I had intended to finish the A321 in the classic Alitalia green stripe livery. Unfortunately when the F-DCAL decals eventually arrived they turned out to be completely the wrong shade of green, so much so that I considered them unusable. A search on the net failed to find an alternative source of decals for that livery but I noticed that 8A Decs had the new Iberia scheme for the A321. Iberia was also on my national carriers “to do” list so off went my order and it took a lot less time for the 8A decals to arrive from Mexico than the F-DCAL ones had taken from France. The decals went on well. They needed a bit of trimming around the tail, especially at the base of the fin, and a little adjustment around the rear doors but other than that there were no major fit issues. My only criticisms are the slightly over scale aircraft names and the omission of the nose gear door registrations neither being the end of the world. Stencils and detail decals including wing coroguard and replacement nose gear registrations came from the spares box and Authentic Airliners windows completed the ensemble. Paint is Halfords Appliance White and Holts HL Grey01 with Tamiya and Revell metallics. Although the model didn’t end up as I had planned, I like the new Iberia livery and I think it suits the A321. I might be in a minority of one but I actually prefer it to the previous red, orange and yellow stripe scheme. Thanks for looking and as always constructive criticism is welcome. Dave G

This is Zvezda's latest "ultimate kit" which was released earlier this year. It includes extra details such as options for open cabin doors, extended flaps/slats and even extended undercarriage oleos to represent a final approach mode. I've built this version in Thomas Cook's new "sunny heart" colour scheme with just flaps/slats extended into the landing position. Some say that this new livery is drab compared with Thomas Cook's previous two-tone blue scheme, but I think its actually quite striking. The kit goes together really well and was a delight to build, although some care is needed in assembling the extended flaps - the kit instructions need a bit of interpretation. Also the kit doesn't come with wingtip sharklets which are now fitted to most new A320 family aircraft, so these are add-ons from Braz which were easy to fit. The Thomas Cook decals are home made with the detail decals (windows, doors, etc) from Daco. Paints used for the Thomas Cook colours are Yellow Revell 310, Dark Grey Revell 378 and Mid Grey Humbrol 128. I think that Zvezda are definitely setting the standard for airliner models. Their next release will be a Boeing 777-300ER - bring it on! Thanks for looking. Tim

Hi there, Basically I have searched high and low to find a Germania A321 Alltours livery but I cant find one apart from herpa and its terrible quality and the wrong colours. Would anyone be able to make me one as my modelling skills are awful I can pay of course just really want one as I work for them and want to give a close friend present nobody else can get. Can anybody help ?? Many thanks Tom

Kev1n and I have a (hopefully!) friendly difference of opinion of Revell's Baby Airbuses - A319/A320/A321- in this thread. To avoid hijacking RobF's thread with info not relevant to him I've started this thread to discuss the merits and problems with these kits, as I'm genuinely interested to hear (& see!) what's thought to be wrong with them. Anyone else that wants to chip in with their experiences and observations of these kits, please feel free to do so. First off, I didn't suggest these kits for RobF as he wanted a build with window decals, other kits without windows would better suit him, but I would recommend them as a first airliner for a build with open windows. The kit is readily available, relatively cheap, and there's a selection of out of the box schemes with excellent decal sheets. Accuracy wise I'd consider them pretty accurate, especially for someone who's new to airliner modelling, they certainly look right (to me at least!) when compared to photo's. The only obvious inaccuracies are the small flap track fairings that need removing from the 319 & 320 wings and a couple of flap lines to fill; plus the very undersize wing tip fences, which need to be about half as big again on all versions. Build wise I've never had any problems with them, having put them together with very little filler and only a light sand along the join lines to eliminate them. I've certainly not experienced any fit problems around the wing roots that Kev1n is alluding to. One area that can improve the look of the model, and is only really relevant if doing a clear window model, is to remove the scribed in windows of the cockpit glazing, which is too small. I do this after attaching the glazing and filling around it with superglue. The glazing can then be sanded and polished to fair it in, and the decal windows used as a template to make window masks of the correct size, which (just!) fit the clear glazing. I'll take some photo's later of one that's built ready for the paintshop to illustrate the cockpit glazing & the wing joins. Over to you Kev1n , what exactly is wrong with the wing join , and what are the "multitude of other less obvious problems"? -
Hi All This rolled off the production line this morning. Its the 1/144 Revell Airbus A321 built using two six's decals. Enjoyed the build, like this kit and the plane. Flew on an A321 of Air Berlin about 3 weeks ago to Dusseldorf from Alicante.. The decals were horrific, they broke up again, never had a problem with two six decals before, the tail is a bit crinkled unfortunatley, had to paint on the flower! The winglets were made for me by John (Viking), Thanks :-) The only mod are the winglets. Good evening to all. This is my latest creation I just finished for now. Maybe in a couple of months I will consider to do so wash or dirty it a bit. But in general I like my airliners clean so I might as well leave it like it is. The livery decals are home designed and printed. Windows, doors, warning signs and coroguard are from the excellent Daco airbus decal set. The Pitot tubes, AOA sensors, antennas and winglets are from the photoetched set from the same set. Enjoy.
