I've always had a particular fondness for the prototypes of the Bf 109 series, from the V-1 through Bv 155. The V-23 was a test model for the Me 309, particularly the tricycle landing gear. On this version it was non-retractable. There are other noticeable changes, from a crude, elbow shaped supercharger intake, very shallow oil cooler and broad prop blades, reminiscent of the much later G-10 variant.
Modifications include:
- Blanking off the wheel wells. Since the Zvezda kit has a retracted gear option, this was somewhat simplified.
- Scratchbuilt nose gear made from Evergreen plastic rod and brass tube. Nose wheel & fork from reshaped Dragon
He 162
- Main gear taken from Tamiya Bf 109 E (they just worked better)
- Modified supercharger intake, cut down from kit item
- Prop taked from a Heller Bf 109 K, the broader blades of this item matched the prototype nicely
SInce this plane was a test bed, all armament, head armor and gun sight were removed.
