  1. This was harder work than I had expected and although it's now 'finished', there's a lot I'm not particularly happy with. I wonder how much of that is me - as other builds I've seen don't seem to mention problems. One even said “Fairly easy kit to build”. Makes me feel inadequate. The fit of the three part fuselage was not good and I used a lot of filler and styrene strip. The wing to fuselage join is with a small tab which I strengthened with some brass rod and the same with the horizontal tail. Another challenge was the undercarriage which is wonderfully complicated – as Grumman intended I suppose – but the kit instructions are a little vague down there so I did a lot (and I mean a lot) of test fitting. I made more than one mistake. Extras were: Airscale instrument and placard decals which are great - although largely invisible inside that curved cockpit Eduard steel seatbelts I replaced the kit guns with brass tube for the blast tubes (try saying that quickly) The kit canopy comes in two parts which is slightly pointless as the rear part will not fit in the open position. I've replaced that with a Squadron vac canopy – that's for the Monogram kit but it just about fits over the fuselage in the open position. I saw that idea in another build. At the outset I'd decided to paint the yellow and black identification stripes rather than use the kit decals as I thought I could get a better finish like that. Didn't quite turn out that way. I hadn't really thought through the challenge of applying two shades of yellow masked with yellow masking tape nor the amount of masking, un-masking and re-masking involved. The kit instructions have the yellow of the wings being the same as the yellow cowl and fuselage band of the sixth section leader. That didn't seem right to me so, after some research, I settled on lemon yellow for the bands and orange yellow for the wings. This is the start of that journey. After much masking work I found myself here: I'd removed a lot of the masking and this is the point where I realised I'd forgotten to paint the walkways. Oh bother. More masking . . . . . Here we have it then. From a suitable distance it'll look ok in the cabinet and it's a bright and breezy contrast to all those greys, greens and browns. The fuselage was painted in silver lacquer which is why there's no variation in tone unlike natural metal finishes.
  2. Hello In the meantime when I'm finishing building next two yellow models: I'm have started with next model with series "Yellow wings". This time I'm taking with something bigger. Resin model Martin T4M from polish factory Ardpol. Ardpol have some models which are close to my collection, one of this -T4M is very atractive - big biplane, with torpedo and outside machine gun in rear cockpit, plus especially interestig interior of plane. American torpedo-bomber was used by US NAVY between 1928 and 1938, and now my turn use this konstruction;) I have started from building engine - small warm-up before harder things. Next, this what I like - interior: Before: After: BTW. My documentation:) -> http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index.php?/topic/116328-martin-t4m-1-torpedo-bomber-circa-1930/&. Thanks for attention and to the next time:) Chears, Jaro
  3. Hello, F-2F-1 which was being builded here -> http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235007243-grumman-f-2f-1-172-attack-squadron-yellow-wings-part-4/#comment-2504506 has finished. Although this is resin model, is easy to assembly, and I didn't have any problems. Model present FF-1 with VF-7 on the USS "Wasp" in 1940 - neutrality patrol. And some pic. with FF-1. Cheers, Jaro
  4. Hi. I present my new model with topic "Yellow Wings". This time: Grumman FF-1 (FiFi), which is my first biplane. Model present FF-1 with VF-5B "Red Rippers" on the USS "Lexington" in 1934. ---- Previous parts: Yellow Wings part 1 Northrop BT-1 Yellow Wings part 2 Vought SB2U-1 Vindicator Bye for now, Jaro
  5. Hi This is my first gallery in this forum, so maybe few words about me. I'm from Poland and I'm mainly building americans planes. I like putty for plastic and send paper , so my last model is Northrop BT-1, which released VALOM. The build thread can be found here. Bye for now, Jaro
  6. Hi My next model in the series "Yellow wings" - Vought SB2U-1 Vindicator, which released Special Hobby. I build this model in the same time as BT-1, and today I finished. The build thread can be found here -> http://www.pwm.org.pl/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=77766 . And photo session with BT-1. Best regards. Jaro
  7. Hello All I'm in. I was going to build the Encore Albatros D.Va but I changed my mind. Got this a few years ago and can't emember the price but it was under $10 so definitely under £10. The decals are no good, but I have the Starfighter sheet for it, and one of the interplane struts is broken. I'm going to scratch together a bit of detail in the pit but other than that it should be pretty straightforward. The kit seems very nice, oh except for the behemoth of an ejection pin mark on the underside of the top wing. Cheers Segan
