1/72 Type 94 64cm Main Gun turret no.1 - Yamato turret The model is finished Took me awhile. The build is great, the only issue is the railing the kit include is not very good, so you can switch for metal chain or in my case - lead wire. 1/350 TAMIYA IJN YAMATO BATTLESHIP Old Yamato from Tamiya. I intended to have used all of the aftermarket P.E and Wooden deck sticker. But I have lost the deck sticker and I need to transport this beast around to my customer so no railing and rigging was added. Too bad. Well I have this kits long ago, the nose was broken due to transport, and i have to fix it. I have P.E antenna and railing and wooden deck BUT i lose the the deck somewhere, and I don't have time for the antenna , I will try for the railing thought. Need to finish this before 1st of August. This kit meant to be mine but i decided to gift it to my father in law (future , i hope) haha. So need to speed it up. Next Yamato i will but time to it. I will update soon. Just finished painting shading and high light. I will record a painting video about this kit too, you guys can check it when its done. I have my channel in my signature. Thank you. Hi guys, I am about to begin construction of Tamiya's 1/350 new tool (2011) and wanted some input on what PE I should get for the kit. The first question (and the easy one) is whether I should buy a wooden deck for the kit as the cheapest I can find one is £13 which isn't too bad but when you add that price to the grand total it does seem quite expensive, I have had no previous experience with wooden decks so if someone can tell me whether they really do make a difference (especially on a expensive kit like this). Next is any further PE or barrels, I definately want railings and would be prepared to use the 1/350 Tamiya handrail set despite the effort and complexity, I also think I want the barrels for atleast the 155mm guns and possibly the 127mm and main guns, but do brass barrels really make that much of a difference say apart from them being hollowed out? I am further considering purchaesing Rainbow's 1/350 single, triple and double aa sets as I am not satisfied with the aa included with the kit, but can find very little about the rainbow stuff which looked a bit flat in the pictures. Then stacking all this together I relised that I could just buy the Flyhawk detail set 350071 (the cheaper one) for not much more. So should I buy the Flyhawk, which would really be pushing the money I want to spend on this boat (keep in mind I am buying off a 14 year old's saved up pocket money). If anyone can supply any more info or instructions for this Flyhawk kit I would be very happy. Also if anyone has any unused PE from their Yamato build for a (very) cheap price I would be greatful I know I've asked alot, Harvey

A first for me - a ship. My favorite at that! OOB with Tamiya Acrylics and some light weathering with my own mix of pastel dust. Recommend this kit - some bits are a little fiddly but overall a joy! Enjoy! Cheers and Happy New Year! Aiden

Had a search through the forum and this kit comes up a few times in its various guises. I have the 78030 kit, which if Scalemates is correct is the same basis as 78031, however I'm thinking of doing a wooden deck, probably a must. Looking around these are available for the various kit numbers, but the deck for 78030 is (obviously) more expensive, than others, apart from the fancy 78025. Anyone any ideas on the differences between the sets, what will fit the 78030 kit and what wont? Don't think I can stretch to the additional extras, either price wise or with my fat fingers! cheers all

Japanese Super Battleship Yamato Eduard 1:350 The release of their updated IJN battleship Yamato by Tamiya it was thought that it wouldn’t need any further items from aftermarket manufacturers, particularly as Tamiya has already produced some detail sets for the kit. This premise has been proven wrong with Eduards release of these sets that aim to improve this amazing even further. The first set, (53072) contains two medium sized sheets of finely etched relief brass. As is usual for these types of sets, some of the kits details need to be removed before the etched parts can be added. Sheet one contains14 new splinter screens with solid floors and 4 with open floors for the triple 25mm gun mounts, new breakwater hatch details, three different types of watertight doors which can be posed either open or closed, new vent grilles, liferings and cradles, AA director mount doors, aircraft trolleys and cradles, a pair of very fine Ohi Go 13 air search radar aerials, the rear parts for the main radars, 5” open gun mount footplate, sight and turntable, boat cradles, replacement flag boom, bridge platforms, catapult footplates, replacement catapults with additional details such as launch cable reels. There are also new handrails for the funnel and several director mounts. Sheet two is slightly smaller and provides the fronts of the main radars along with the rather fiddly separate dipoles, twelve of which are fitted to each side. Apart from a new bridge platform deck the sheets is filled with new handrails for use around the ship superstructure and the forward turret, along with new deck hatches, vertical ladders, new bridge windows, and deck shelters. To go with the above set Eduard have also released a separate comprehensive set of railings, (53073). The one large sheet is filled with railings of different styles and all pre-sized to the correct length for fitting in their respective positions. These will go a long way to finish what is a fabulous model, without the hassle of using Tamiyas own railing set which is made up of individual posts through which you pass copper wire to make up the completed railings. Conclusion Although the new Yamato kit is absolutely fantastic, these additional sets will take it to the next level of detail and able the modeller to really build a museum quality model.
