  1. I didn't expect to finish this one, this side of New Year. It's the hopefully soon to be re-issued 1/48th Javelin. I had bought it when it first came out but put it to one side as it was just too big. Then last year I built a couple of F-102s, an F-101 and an F-106 so what was I scared of? Well the length is fine but it still has an enormous wing span. I normally use the pound coin to show how small my 1/144th stuff is but it seemed appropriate. It went together like a dream and all I added were some belts and a pair of Master pitots. Well worth the money IMHO. I also used a set of markings for a 5 Squadron machine from Xtradecals. Still not sure I'll build another due to the size and anyway there are sooooo many Hunters I want to build. Thanks for looking.
  2. And the third finish of 2019 from my Airfix therapy build thread: The loveable li'l Airfix Scooter. paints by Mr Color and an Xtradecals set used. Nice little kit with usual issues for new Airfix but looks good to me. BTW the repeated comments about missing pilots, drones etc have been registered and are just as funny as they were six months ago : These are being sold on as desktop models to non-modellers who don't care for little plastic men with smeary badly painted faces! Great to get three done in a month but really could do a lot more with organization: Took some liberties with this one- blue windscreen? Decals for intakes instead of painting and that factory fresh sheen that all Scooters seem to have , even after a jaunt to Hanoi.. WIP Here
  3. Hello, I am keen on building this particular machine - a Tiger Moth coded K-4288 /D of 18th Elementary and Reserve FTS, Fairoaks, Surrey, England 1937. I intend to use Xtradecal set No. X72190, and the instructions suggest a very interesting scheme - silver fuselage + wings in "shadow" camouflage + yellow wingtips and undersides! Img source: Hyperscale This looks very interesting, indeed, but looking at the two photos if this machine known to me, I have some doubts about the wing camouflage and yellow wingtips. Would anyone please also take a look at the photos, and contribute with his opinion? 20 eyes are always better than just two Img source: Aerohispanoblog Img source: Krul antiquarian books Thank You in advance!
  4. As a diversion from my usual 144 Airliners, I'm joining this GB with the arrival of three kits from Jadlam A very nice Xtradecal sheet arrived from Lowestoft earlier in the week My aim is to build at least two of the kits together - the first one will be finished as J-2113 of the Swiss Air Force (Dubendorf 1951) and the second will probably be the Italian 4.28 from 1952. Perhaps they met at an Airshow in the early Fifties? Time to get started...………... Regards Mike
  5. First model of the year, last model of 2015, who knows... Cheers, S.
  6. Hi folks, I was happily putting an AMK Kfir C2 together when a Tornado subrepticiously crept up on my table. I couldn't resist its brutish charm, and a weekend later, there it was: Some grey paint(s) later: The laser rangefinder is from Italeri kit. And now, it's masking time. Borrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring... Really boring... And now for some Gunze dark green (H330): Masks away! The flaps are on: Next, the slats and I'll start the loooong decalling process, thanks to the Xtradecals stencils sheet. If anybody could point me to a RAF 1500l external fuel tank, I'd be delighted... Cheers, S.
  7. So, it looks a bit like the F-8 are a bit en vogue these days. Well, I just finished mine, and would like to show it. The build was very straightforward, except of the flaps, which needed some sanding to fit beside the fuselage. Apparently, it's a common problem with this kit. And on the approach for landing, with the backgound my daughter painted... Thanks for watching, if there are any questions, I'm happy to answer! Alex
  8. No pictures yet, but I'm going to try and do a side-by-side of the Sword F.3 using Xtradecals for 74 Squadron, and the Airfix F.6, either as an actual 74 Squadron Lightning, or as the 11 Squadron "74 Squadron" Lightning from the 25th Anniversay Lightning Show at Binbrook in 1979. Both kits have been washed, and I did some test-fitting on the Sword kit, and I have to say, so far it looks like it's going to be really awful and frustrating to build. Not terribly excited about it now.
  9. Good afternoon, there have been some Gannets in the RFI-section, so I have to show mine, I suppose... it's the well-known Revell Gannet T.5. I had as well some fitting problems due to non-existant clearance. Next problem were the clear parts, which were unusable. So I converted to the falcon vacuformed ones. But, they were meant for the Frog-Kit, the angle of the windscreen did not match the revell kit. I had to use the revell windscreen, which was the best clear part (uff...). Colour are from xtracolour, with a endless drying time, decals were the highlight. Went on easily. Just added some oil colour washing in the end. This was the worst kit so far, I contemplated several times if I should finish it or just write it off unfinished. Result is still ok. Best point - the prop is turning if blown! Thanks for watching! Alex
  10. Here's my latest completion! I've been restraining myself from buying the new Airfix Blenheim, because since I built it in the box scheme a few years back I have had the MPM kit sat on the shelf causing me dissatisfaction. I was chuffed with the model itself but made some poor colour choices for the DE/DG scheme, didn't weather to my satisfaction and didn't like the Munich crisis-era markings (which silvered annoyingly). So when I saw that Xtradecal had released a sheet for the new kit, the kit went straight into the paint-stripper without passing go! The option I went for was the colourful early scheme for 90 squadron, based at Bicester in 1938. This has local appeal for me as Bicester is slowly being rejuvenated only a few miles up the road from Oxford where I live this year. This joins my 2-seat Jaguar from living in Norwich last year, and my OUAS AZ Tiger Moth in celebrating my local airfields and units! One note of warning for anyone using this sheet (XK72202): the upperwing A1-type roundels supplied are too small, corresponding to 56-inch. Lots of photos show that the aircraft had large roundels that only just fit between the aileron hinge and leading edge. I estimated them as being 62-inch, and replaced directly from stock Xtradecal sheets. I'm not sure whether this mis-sizing applies only to the early scheme with A1, or whether the B-type roundels for later schemes are also out. The model is brush-painted as usual over Humbrol primer, colours are Revell (Night), Xtracrylix (Dark Green), and Humbrol (Dark Earth). I added a few extra scratchbuilt details I didn't first time around: the landing light aperture was cut out and glazed using a modified piece from a Hasegawa Beaufighter, and the extra little glazing panels in the turret were added using my spares box. I also rigged aerial wires, replaced the inaccurate PE rudder pedals, and drilled out the well for the retractable tailwheel featured on early Blenheim Is. Hope you enjoy this rejuvenation of a now-obsolete kit!
