After a couple of months away from the workbench, I decided I wanted to do something with no camouflage, no canopy & no masking... A little rummage in the stash & I found just the thing - the Revell packaged 1/39 Wright Flyer. Originally produced by Monogram in 1958, I was actually pleasantly surprised with the quality of this kit. The wings were airbrushed with vallejo model air aged white, the wood is Revell wood brown - no clever techniques attempted, just flat colour. The rigging was done using ez-line, there is cotton included with the kit, but I decided ez-line would be easier & look better. If you've never read about how these guys put this thing together, trawl the web & have a read.They created their own wind tunnel, built their own engine (the contacts are inside the cylinders!) and designed the propellers, using a second home-made wind tunnel, achieving 80% efficiency from them. Then there's the story of their battle with the Smithsonian institute .....
