  1. Hi,just moving a few things about, thought i,d post this missile for your intrest,it was a nice esy little kit to make, hardest bit again was painting.Heres some history on what it is....... KS-1 Komet[krm-1 nato designation AS-1] Its a wind missile short range air to surface missile mainly for anti shipping. Usually carried on the Tupolev TU-4K 'Bull' and the Tupolev TU-16 'Badger' Developed in 1947 it lineage can be traced back to the V1's. There was a ground launch missile version called the 'Samlet' as well. Basically they were a scaled down MIG-15 with the cockpit and undercarriage removed. It was propelled by a 500K turbo jet engine, reverse engineered from the Rolls Royce Derwent Engine. The AS1 entered service in 1955 as an under wing missile. They were replaced by the AS-5 'Kelt; which was deployed in 1966 and the KS-1 was removed from service in 1969. It was operated by Soviet Union, Egypt, Indonesia and North Korea. KS-1 Komet for the Army FKR-1 KS7 with high explosive chemical nuclear warhead for the Navy Ship bourne 'Strela' (KSS) for coastal defence 'Sopka' (S-2) for Soviet Air Defence Also the KRM-1 was after decomissioning widely used as an air target drawn up until the end of the 80's thanks for looking,i enjoyed making that..cheersDon
  2. Hi thought id show you this, before i start the next one,as my painting has improved a lickle bit?Anyway the devil made me do it!..enjoy thats it its a beast, but i enjoyed building it,just not painting it,i will try and do better next time,as im building this again. cheers Don
  3. 79 resin parts+214 p.e parts Hi,thought you might want to have a look at these,i did,nt realise the actual kit was that far out?,so having already made it,wrong obviously?,i will have to build it again now,its a good job ive got one on the shelf.if you know of any other bits shout out?,there is loads on the www,but where do you draw the line?.im still contemplating a 7.5 ft high saturn for a summer project,.Anyway have a look at this,i wont give any opinion as there is stacks about..heres the pics.. dvd included of images the words and Decals the resin finally 2 sheets of p.e so there it is coaxing and cajoling me,teasing me,saying don don,do me right? im so weakwilled cheers Don
  4. Hi,if you want the Hawk version of the V1,just buy this instead its cheaper, only differencce is you dont get the trailing jet stream, but the kit is different plastic but the same kit, even has Hawk moulded inside,so same mould, you dont get capt Hawks message or secret plans either!,but you get the kit, with internals as well..ENJOY... EVEN SAYS ON THE BOX made in italy... but scratched on the stand base is made in usa same kit same sprue not as good as Capt hawks, cheers Don
  5. HI,thought you might like a look at this nice little kit,as ive just finished building it,here it is before, what is it you may ask?.well this was germany,s answer to world domination, but actually this was and is the first version of all thjat was to come, after the war the designs were improved etc and basically this was the forerunner to all that followed, missiles, shell designs, supersonic jets, space flight etc etc etc.Only two of these were built, designated A4b,the first launch a failure but the second was a sucess, only marred by the wings dropping off on the descent?,so this design was envisaged, with straked wings, which proved ideal in wind tunnel testing, but never achieved production...... Anyway heres the kit,ill post the finished one later.. heres the sprues, not many and this does make a detailed launch pad as well, though this version did,nt launch that way. this is the finished launch platform decals and two canopy,s vac formed.. and thats it ,nice little project though, going to post a resin version next as well,as a comparison cheers Don
  6. Hi,thought you might want to see this little beauty by alley cat,of a subject not seen very often, but has been used for over 50 years now by the australian military, and the U.S military and navy, and the U.k,and still being used quite recently?. this kit gives you loads of options for different designs/versions/colour schemes etc,in fact you might need a couple,to fit everything on,i like the version with wing extensions personally. The kit comes with excellent instructions for all the different types, and paint jobs, the casting looks excellent,p.e.as well, and a very nice trailer to support it,there must be a lot of colonials who would like this in there collection, anyway heres the kit and what you get,i will get round to building this shortly.. quite a bit of kit for your money a few ref photos etc stacks of decals bit of p.e heres the rough size of it wing bits and finally the trailer All in all a nice bit of casting, detail ,look forward to its build, cheers Don
  7. Hi just finished this no3 of the 4,should have no4 done by midweek, nice little kits dirt cheap, not very well catered for in the modelling world, but hey ho !,the kits look pretty accurate with regards the missile and t.e.l,but basically, the launchers the same in all four kits, just a change of decals, and of course the missile.anyway have a look, and when i finish the fourth one,i'll put the details on,of the missiles etc, cheers Don,you can never get enough, rockets and missiles? heres a quick comparison of the other missiles cheers Don currently in resin heaven
  8. HI, Been cleaning my shelves today found this, dusted it off,and thought i will show you this before i start a new updated one.First a bit of the history of the missile, very shortlived, but if you read and believe the blurb that comes with the instructions, its a very different story,a load of b*****ks,actually, but hey ho young minds to be moulded i suppose?right ...... Martin MGM-18 Lacrosse. The lacrossse was a SRBM (short range ballistic missile) verybriefly deployed by the US army late 50,s early 60.s designed for close support of ground troups and very high accuracy. but sadly the technology of the day wasn't up to the task. So it wasn't very successful. Development started in 1947 by the US navy for the US Marine Corps and it was designed by the Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) of the John Hopkins University by Cornell Aeronautical Laboratory (CAL). 1949/50 it was turned over to the US army and they began testing in 1951 but development was very slow. It wasnt until 1953 that they decided to settle upom a solid propellant mortar. The radio command guidance system of Lacrosse was first tested by air launched Lark test missiles. The first actual prototype flight of the Lacrosse took place in April 1955 and then it was decided to select Martin as a prime contractor for the production of the missile, by that time known as Guided Missile Field Artillery. The first test flight of the Martin built Lacrosse took place in January 1957. Another two years of testing before the missile was ready for service, in July 1959 the M4 Lacrosse Missile was delivered to operational army units. Because of a lot of operational problems i.e. limited use in bad weather and at night because it used portable optical tracking equipment also the radio command system wes easy to jam and use counter measures, thus rendering the missile uncontrolable and was very maintainance heavy. Because of all this the original customer, the US Marine Corps backed out in 1959. In 1960 the first Army Units acquired the missile system and then in January in 1961 the Army decided to terminate it and retire the missile asap. Withdrawal started in 1963 and by 1964 was no longer in active service. so here,s some pics also inc is a version by roco, which for its size is very accurate,enjoy.... the revell version the roco version cheers Don
  9. Hi,thought you might like a look at this kit,as its on sale at the moment,1/3rd off at a well known kit supplier in lowesstoft.Anyway after the poor results i got in mach 2,s older kits of missiles,ie very thin plastic, very poor joints, and p*ss poor decals,i said i wouldnt buy another one,but ive relented and bought a few of these, and from the feel and look of the kit contents,a vast improvement. Not many parts though,a nice weekend kit...heres a few pics,it is quite large though, far better than the eastern express kits, cheers Don and the warhead,i would think its the same body for all the versions, just different payloads,i will have a look? thats it,if you want any other pics just shout Don
  10. Hi,just having a clear round and thought id post this for your perusal.....a bit of history first,,, Its a Douglas M31 Artillery Rocket, with nuclear capabilities. it was US armys first nuclear armed surface to surface rocket. Development started May 1950 by the Red Stone Arsenal in the late 50's Douglas was asked to develop it. First flight testing 1951, first production 1953 for the US Army units and first operational units deployed to Europe in 1954. The M31 Honest John was an unguided artillery rocket powered by a solid fuel rocket engine, and spin stabilised in flight by two spin motors. Of all the early US nuclear weapons the Honest John was the easiest to operate. The rocket was transported from the depot to the launching unit by truck and trailor in three parts, war head, motor and fins (a different model by Revell) The rocket was assembled and mounted on the M289 Launcher by 6 men and a crane in approximately 5 minutes. Production continued until about 1960, nearly 8000 rockets being built. It was upgraded and reclassified in 1962 as M50. By the late 60's it had been replaced by newer versions and in 1973 it was replaced by the Lance missiles. Honest John was relegated to the US Army National Guard Units. In 1982 it was decomissioned by National Guard, I believe some National Guard stations have them outside as displays. I think there were some British Units manning these missiles in Europe in the 1970's cheers Don
  11. hI,finally got the last one of these done,a simple kit of a very nice subject, not covered much, this missile is transported inside the metal casing, which splits apart prior to launch There are four t.e.ls in the set,the scale board ss-12,the scud-b r-17, the al-abbas ss-1c,and the al-hussien ss-1c,the other 4xkits in the arll gulf war issue set,are the patriot missile launcher, the control centre, the radar unit, and the radar mast on transporter. The exact same patriot launcher kit is also sold under the heller name, same kit, only a few more decals with the heller issue,,also i believe the arll and heller transporters are based on a standard issue image and not a real vehicle, though it does look a bit like a hemtt truck?,but still the cargos on the trailer are pretty accurate, and good enough for me.These kits are still readily available at about a tenner each, last time i bought one, though the heller kit was dearer for some reason, possibly just the more well known name, because the kit is identical ..Anyway have a look,i enjoyed making them,as the subject is not covered enough, for my taste, why is this in the real space section and not in cold war or armour,i could be wrong and no doubt it will be moved,if im wrong, but all space missiles are basically military ones just altered,so i build these as well as civilian ones, and a last excuse is they are mentioned in mat irvine's creating space book,so that will do for me.cheers Don cheers Don
  12. Hi finally finished all 8 kits, took some time as painting not my strongpoint, tend to leave to last, then it gets overwhelming, anyway im quite pleased with how theyve turned out,as its subjects which we dont see a lot of,and with the iron shield in the news everyday quite topical,as its a similar set up as the patriot.cheers have a look,DON fIRST OFF THE T.E.L.S. the set, details cheers Don
  13. Hi,just checking out israels air defence system,on wiki it looks very similar to the desert storm patriot system,ie with seperate control cabin, radar trailer, and missile trailer, check it out.cheers Don
  14. Hi,just thought i would mention the nice article,in the oct issue airfix, author mat irvine..its the build and fetteling of dragons apollo 11 lunar approach csm and lm...thought id mention it as no one else has.so its airfix model world issue 23 oct....enjoy cheers Don

  16. Hi,all, cant seem to finish anything at the moment, dont know whether its the prolification of aftermarket stuff,ie p.e.or redone decals or even remade parts, can you ever decide when something is done,or should we just finish as is and kick ourselves later, any thoughts......ps has anyone resin cast any rocket bodies,as im thinking of doing one or two, just wondered on the pitfalls......cheers from a very wet and windy fylde coast, good moggelling weather...Don Heres half of my pending. cheers Don
