This is going to be a long job as :
1. The main model has to be released Takom FV432 APC
2. I have to learn and perfect Turbocad as i go along.
Following the recent announcement by Takom they intend to release the British Army's main "battle taxi" for over 40 years, the FV432, my brain got going.
Being a "cold war warrior" for many years, much of that spent in Germany, the 432 was a common vehicle to crew. It was produced in many variants e.g 434 the REME's recovery version and the one i intend to model the 439 which was a Royal Signals version for Radio Relay. The radio relay was part of a secure network which was part of a system for simplicity was able to replicate communications such as telephone landline and cellular. The 439 were deployed normally as part of an Armoured Brigade headquarters. Other signals variant could be seen and Dads203 crewed a radio version, he will correct me.
The top deck of the 432 is where most difference s can be seen. Extra's included a "coffin" containing two generator sets, a mast cage for holding antenna heads, a 12m pneumatic antenna mast and an assembly of reels for antenna co-ax and quad drums for a landline connection of the radio relay into the headquarters as the 439 was usually away from the headquarters on a hill nearby for good signal propagation.
A deployed 439 grossly overloaded with the kit to go to war with, cam nets, penthouse tent for the back door to give the crew some living and working space the list of comforts is endless.
