  1. Hello Everyone, My first try at making ocean waves. I use my old Hobbyboss 1/72 Sh-60 Jayhawk kit and I modify this by adding rudimentary pilots, open door and a winch wire. The Rotating blades are made by using Clear Acrylic sheet which was masked and painted with RED White and Yellow Stripes. Black was Painted on the bottom in a fading stroke. The waves are made using silicone rubber and Baking Soda. I put two layers and I think it did a good enough job. The base is basic plywood and topped with foam and acrylic putty. Paints used are acrylics through the build. A WIP video is there . . Have a look . . Hope you like it . . Do let me know for your techniques and suggestions. Best Adi
  2. This has been keeping me busy for the last month. Its a Mach 2 kit, so a lot of work was needed, a bit of an adventure but nothing too onerous if you are willing to put some effort in, except perhaps the transparent parts which were typical of this brand. That is to say, not transparent and not the same shape as the gap they were supposed to fit in! As sold, the kit makes an early Hu-25A version (serial 2111), but I applied a few minor scratch mods to kit and decals turn this one into an Hu-25D (late modifed Hu-25A). Whilst I can verify that 2114 was definitely converted to an Hu-25D, I'm less sure that it was based out of Miami, but hey ho. An interesting project that was a very long way from shake and make, but fun nevertheless and leaving a genuine sense of achievement. FredT
  3. Battlefleet Models Maritime Accessories 1:700 Battlefleet Models Battlefleet Models of the USA have a growing range of products to tempt the maritime modeller, including 1:350 and 1:700 scale resin ship and auxiliary vessel kits. They also carry a range of dock related paraphernalia and other diorama accessories, including some really useful bits and pieces such as resin barrage balloons and mines. In other words, pretty much everything you need to display your maritime models as part of a detailed diorama. They also have a range of photo etch parts and decals. U.S. Coast Guard Decals This sheet, entitled US Coast Guard Decals, contains a range of black and white letters and numbers in 24, 36, 48 and 60 inch sizes, as well as U.S. Coast Guard lettering and insignias, flags and colour flashes. The decals are nicely printed details are sharp and colours are nice and bold. Carrier film is also minimal. Ratlines and More and Railings and More These two sets of photo etched details contain a wealth of useful parts for detailing 1:700 scale ships. The first fret contains a variety of ratlines in different lengths and widths. Also included are wheels, nets and other details. The second fret contains a range of different styles of railings, including two and three bar types with differently spaced stanchions. Also on this fret are ladders, stairways, doors, hatches, oars and davits. Both frets are unbelievably fine so fine that my scanner was unable to resolve all of the detail in the nets on the first fret! The brass is extremely thin too, so you wont need to worry about the ratlines looking too rigid. A gentle push with a finger should be enough to give them a very realistic appearance. Conclusion I must admit to being a fan of sets like these as they provide a useful range of utility parts that can be used to add detail to virtually any kit. There is no doubt that these are high quality products. In the case of the photo etched sets, the parts are extremely fine and the metal used is very thin indeed. The decals are just as good, being nicely printed and offering a useful range of letters and numbers. If you like what you see here, why not check out the rest of Battlefleet Models range?
