  1. This is my Hobby Boss UH-1B Huey "Gunship". The Hobby Boss kit is an easy pleasant build that only took 10 days, start to finish. But it had a little help. In addition to the basic kit I used: A Bilek color interior. I had never heard of Bilek before and I don't know if they have a relationship to Eduard, but it looked just like and Eduard set. Eduard Mask Print Scale decals. I have used Print Scale decals in the past and been happy with them, but this set and the last one I used were problematic to the point of almost being unusable and I will probably stay clear of them in the future. They are very thin, which is good, but they have no body and stick instantly. This means that once you put them down you have no opportunity to adjust them. If you try they either tear apart of roll up into a ball. This is especially true on the lettering part with clear background, and I had to get the "United States Army" decals from another set because of this. Plus as an added bonus they were badly misregistered. see the tail serial number which should be all black. Mini World ammo belts. The kit gives you several options for armament and I used the M134 minigun. I couldn't see not having some ammo Italeri main rotor and mast. The Hobby Boss main rotor was just a little too simplified for my tastes. As it tuns out they are both 4 scale feet too short. So on to the pictures: Next up is the AZ Models' Douglas X-3 Stiletto. See Enjoy.
  2. Hi fellow Britmodellers! Here's my latest build The Tamiya Warbird re-boxing of the Italeri 1/72 Huey in dirty, dusty RAAF livery Build info: Aftermarket: None Photo etch: None Modifications: None Scratchbuilding: None Rivet removal: None Background research: None Investigative scale drawings sourced: None Decals: OOB Glue: Yes Paint: Tamiya Olive Drab enamel, Humbrol enamels, Testors Model Master enamels Weathering: my daughters browny yellowish cheapo kids watercolour Flat Finish: Model Master Flat Clear Lacquer Build Lubricant: South Australian Shiraz (various) I'm a terribly lazy modeller!......... Thanks heaps to those who supported and commented along the way in the WIP......I had a fun time with the build! Cheers Bruce
  3. If you recognized the band referenced in the topic you're probably stuck firmly in the mid 80's to early 90's! I'm posting a sort of "get back into the swing" WIP to re-adjust my photo storage to flickr and see if things are working with the third party hosting I'm totally out of character and building a helicopter! Got super excited to find a Tamiya warbird collection Bell UH-1B super cheap at my local Toyworld only to find it's simply a Tamiya re-box of an Italeri kit.... Hoodwinked......... but that's life. Anyway I'm enjoying it and actually Italeri kits can build up quite nicely IMO. She's going to be an RAAF version that was included in the kit. Nothing fancy and without all the guns and stuff on the American variants I can just build it quickly and have some simple fun. Here's some photos....hopefully It's not going to be over the top and it's just a kit to get my mojo back and build my first RAAF variant of anything. Chocks away!
  4. Hi Everyone, I'm ready to go with a Royal Australian Navy UH-1B Iroquois. I started the kit a few years back but didn't get very far as the photos below show. Now is a good time to pick up where I left off and learn a lot about Hueys in this group build. I'll be modelling N9-882 (857) which served with 723 Squadron from 1964 to 1989. This airframe is now in the Fleet Air Arm Museum, Nowra. Components are the Italeri 1/72 UH-1B, Eduard UH-1B etch and Hawkeye's RAN-03 decal set.The Italeri rotors are said to be under-sized and will need lengthening to 48'. I'll also need to scratch-build a winch and may try scratch-building the distinctive additional fuel tanks. Should be fun! Andrew
  5. I've decided to embark on the next phase of my RAN Fleet Air Arm project - this time a Huey UH-1B from the Italeri 1/72 kit. One thing that has me stumped (apart from the general fit of the cabin floor which is another thing) is the orientation of the top and bottom halves of the central vertical supporting framework seen through the lower nose windows. Here is a photo of the real thing I took recently. The lower part of the central supporting frame has an angle compared to the upper part. I think the lower half angles out but the view through the perspex is quite deceiving and the upper part possibly angles in. Neither the Eduard etch I have, and the original Italeri kit parts/instructions make this clear. The Eduard part for the UH-1B (left) has the central frame flat (although with some nice detail). The Italeri part depicts an angle but the instructions have you install this towards the centre and not the edge as in the real thing. It's also a little unclear whether the central support lies flush with the edge of the perspex window, or whether their is a lip. My apologies if this is trivial but I find this is a very prominent feature of Huey's and I'd like to get it right. Thanks in advance, Andrew
  6. Here is the first model I made after moving to Western Australia almost 7 years ago, built from box as a RAAF machine. Brush painted acrylics and some water colour to make it a little dirty. Took it down from the shelf to clean and managed to break a few parts off that needed re-glueing so you could argue I completed a model this weekend.......
