  1. The idea for this diorama came from seeing one of the figures in the build. The two ladies have pulled over to exercise their dogs, at the side of a gravel road, as they head into the mountains of north west Canada. Hope you enjoy these images. Thanks for looking in.
  2. Hi and welcome to the build thread for my third model. Its a Toyota Celica GT four 165. To be more precise i'm building the 1990 safari rally wining car sponsored by rep sol as a challenge to myself to improve the quality of both my decal work and white paint finishes. The kit is made by Aoshima /beemax and so far I have to say my initial impression is that there is lots of fine details and the quality of the mouldings appear to be top notch. I dry assembled a lot of the kit in two sections looking for any potential problems and apart from the roll cage being a potential pain in the neck if the c7r I built as my first project was anything to go by I could only find two areas which I predict could cause me a few headaches. The first is the suspension as I found it akward to line it up correctly however when I finally got it right it seemed like a matter of alignment. The other potential issue is some of the holes are a snug fit before I add paint in to the mix but again i think this wont be to bad of an issue. My current plan is to drill out any of the peg slots if I cant get the parts to fit correctly as a last resort. I am considering drilling out the brake disks with my new pin vice kit they wont be to visible should I goof it up and it will be good practice for when I build my next bike kit should I match the drill bit to the existing indents ? Would I be better of to do this before or after I have painted them in the base coat? Had I thought of it I would of taken some pictures of the sprews before I started but I didn't think to so here are some pictures of the parts I have primed so far. I have had my first covid jab today and its knocked me for six so i haven't been able to get as much done as i would like to have done.
  3. Hi there, a bit of an odd/obscure question but I've tried searching the forum and wider internet to little avail. How different are the Tamiya kits for the Toyota Celsior and Lexus LS400? I assume it's just a case of different badges and possibly colour options in the instructions? It also looks like the LS is LHD and the Celsior is RHD. I did see a nice RFI thread for a Toyota Celsior build, so I know that it comes together into a nice model and I know a shop that has a couple of Celsior kits on the shelf (how long have they been there?), but I'm also tempted by a LS kit I've seen on eBay. Any suggestions or perspectives on the kits or other kits of the same subject are welcome.
  4. There was no WIP for this as I was building it for my brothers christmas present. I have however chronicled the majority of the build photos in the Google album here. The kit was a simple kit, with the only engine detail being moulded as part of the Chassis. The interior is fairly simple but it is also simple on the 1:1. Both myself and my brother owned various MR2's through our younger years and continue a shared interest inJapanesecars. I asked him how he would have his ideal MR2 earlier in the year (Much earlier) and have built this OOB but to his specifications: i.e Flocked dash and colour choices. The registration is the registration on his last owned MR2 and the TB Developments logo is taken from the club we used to be members of. Its also a company logo ( i do not own the copyright but do know the owner and am attending his wedding next year....so don't see he will have an issue in its use) I am pleased with the ease of this build and the end result ispleasing for a kit that only cost me £20. Here are the photos before it was closed up and the end result. Feel free to comment and criticise, I feel the front ride height is a touch high but not worh dying in a ditch over.   6. I need an advice, I dry fitted the rear cowl of the Tamiya Toyota TS050 and it fits nice without glue, so I am considering not gluing it. This is NOT for exposition purposes, because the kit has no engine and transmission details, but to potentially minimize the risks of glue leaks on the paint job, considering the multiple and long gluing points. What's your call? Thanks

So I thought I needed to challenge myself next and start something that had plenty of decals, so thought this Celica would be a good start: And so to one of the bits I wasnt looking forward to....spraying the body. I only use automotive rattle cans so picked up a tin of Toyota White, warmed it up and once I had primed the body I gave it a couple of coats, and must admit I am pretty pleased with the outcome. And now to the bit I am not looking forward tp, painting black around the windows etc...but I cant wait to start on the decals.
  10. So with my other projects giving me a headache i thought i would start on something a little closer to my childhood pleasures. I have always been a fan of the japanese cars and the Toyota supra is no exception. This one is the modified supra from the first of the many fast and the furious films. Originally boxed abd made by AMT, im expecting lots of flash and ill fitting parts along with some poorly finished chrome parts and tacky wheels. For the first stage i built the engine and painted and added detail. Next was to start on the rear suspension and differential. Which was then painted and futted to the chassis. A little more detail to be done like picking out the cv boots and diff oil drain bung. Also the front was made up and painted . Lots of progress and hopefully more later before i am away for the weekend hoping to get the exhaust painted and fixed and continue with the detailing on the engine.
  11. Time for the build of a kit that's been sat staring at me from the pile for ages, Tamiya's Toyota TRD86. I picked this up last year at a bargain price online. I'm personally a big fan of the GT86/BRZ twins. They have to be among the very few modern cars I would happily splash my own cash on. Proper RWD drivers cars with skinny tyres and just enough characterful boxer power to entertain. TRD took this concept a little further with their factory spec rally car, the TRD86 which in Gazoo Racing colours is the subject of this kit......... I didn't get any pictures of the sprues but suffice to say this is yet another fine example of Tamiya's art, perfectly moulded with a colourful decal sheet which requires minimal painting of the shell beyond the base colour and even pre-cut self adhesive window masks. So, on with the build. First off, the floor pan received a coat of Halfords grey primer followed by the same company's Toyota Tyrol Silver. Some masking later saw various areas painted in satin black with titanium for heat shields...... Next up, the rear suspension and differential assembly. Very minimal assembly was required before being painted in satin black with the diff cover picked out in silver. The rear brakes were then painted in various metallic shades before being added with poly caps hidden within the hubs....... The exhaust assembly followed, being made from just 2 parts, plus the tips which will be added later in the build...... To finish this first post, the above assemblies were brought together along with the prop shaft....... That's it for now, next up will the be front end.
  12. I discovered one of these in my stash hidden as a freebie inside another kit and thought it might look nice next to my Judy one day. It's all sealed and in good order minus the box so a nice addition to the 'shelf breakers'. Obviously not a popular subject (only found 1 BM build pic, although hints of at least 2 more) but I am hoping someone can point to pix, plans etc of the originals. Google bought up 2 very poor quality pix but little else. Also see there's a tanker that shows up occasionally. Perhaps a fleabay/market hunt is in order... At least it will be different to the current fad of RAF WW2 vehicles.
  13. The Toyota G series of trucks was built in huge numbers by the Japanese with the GB alone amassing 19870 units between 1938 and 1942. Hasegawa first released this 1/72 version complete with Hucks Starter in 1978. Unfortunately it's noted as 'retired' on their site but it pops up occasionally from the usual 2nd hand suppliers. I was planning on starting it in a week or two but plans change and out it came ahead of schedule. So is it worth building?...lets find out..
  14. (well, not quite 50 years, but they look good together...) There's a family heritage running through this lot, and they look cool together! And these two share Toyota's passion for engineering and a roaring Yamaha heart beating under the bonnet... plus they look even cooler together! ;-P bestest, M.
