  1. Hi to all. Finally I finished this beautiful aircraft, one of my fafourites modern ones. Is the Revell kit 04517. It represents the Rafale M n° 15, Flottille 11F French Navy NATO Tiger Meet 2014, Airfield Schleswig AB (ETNS), Germany. This particular aircraft has marks of dropped bombs during the operation Harmattan, Lybia 2011. The construction link is here: I hope you like it. Best regards, Pablo
  2. Hi to all. I started several years ago this Revell kit, (n° 04517). I finished it a few days ago. It is a nice kit of a beatiful modern aircraft. I decided to add some extra detail from aftermarket accesories and scratch build. When I noticed, I realized I added too much extra detail on it... This is the (extense) list of aftermarket added: Resins: Wolfpack 48175 (Dassault Rafale C/M Cockpit set) Wolfpack 48190 (Rafale SNECMA M88-2) Wolfpack 48034 (Dassault Rafale B/M Standard F2 set (for Revell 1/48) L’Arsenal AC-48-29 (Multi task designation pod Damoclès for Rafale jet fighter) L’Arsenal AC 48-58 (Bombe GBU 12 avec corps CBEMS 250 pour Rafale 1/48) PE sets: Eduard 48284 and Eduard FE958 Decals: Syhart 48-079 Rafale M n°27 Tigermeet 2014 Flotille 11F When I added the resin sets, I realized the plastic oarts replaced was as good as the resin aftermarket. It was too late to regret. I hope you like it. Regards, Pablo
  3. F-16D Tigermeet 2014 (03844) 1/72 Revell I would pretty much assume that almost all modellers reading this review are familiar with the F-16 Fighting Falcon. It is probably the most used combat aircraft in the world at this time. The F-16 was developed by General Dynamics for the USAF. This was as a result of proposals for an Advanced Day Fighter Concept. Following on from an Air Force study group the idea of a Lightweight Fighter was developed. Certain elements of the Air Force remained hostile to this as it was perceived as a threat to the then F-15 programme. In 1972 General Dynamics was awarded a contract to produce the YF-16. The aircraft introduced numerous innovations in fighter design, including a frameless bubble canopy affording the pilot greater visibility. Air-to-air missiles were mounted on wing tip pylons to free up underwing stations and the central control column was replaced by a side stick controller. The pilots seat was reclined by 30° to reduce G forces. In technological terms the aircraft was one of the first to use fly-by-wire and relaxed stability were by the computers actually flew the aircraft instead of conventional inputs. Like many aircraft the F-16 has developed over the years, probably to point where the original designers would marvel at the difference between the YF-16 and the latest 2 Seat aircraft with external Avionics spines & conformal fuel tanks. It has certainly gone from a Lightweight fighter to a more overweight example, no doubt like a lot of us over the years! It is estimated over 4500 F-16 aircraft have now been produced. The Kit Here Revell have re-released their own tool kit which traces it's history back to 2000. Here all the parts except the canopy are in the box for the single seater aircraft with an additional sprue providing the two seater parts. Construction starts with the cockpits. Due to the parts layout there are two which are nearly identical. Each has a 3 part seat, side controllers and an instrument panel with the details provided as decals. Two pilot figures are supplied if the modeller wants to use them. The two completed cockpits are then installed into the D variant's upper front fuselage part. Moving to the lower fuselage the main wheel bay is built up and added. We then can assemble the main fuselage with the main and front top sections being joined to the lower one. At the front of the fuselage the main engine intake is assembled and joined on, and at the rear the exhaust nozzle is also added. The tailplanes and ventral fins can also go on at this stage. as well as the arrestor hook. Flipping back the nose the nose cone and front bird slicer IFF antennas go on. Following this we flip straight back to the tail and attach the tail assembly. Work now moves to the undercarriage. The main gear legs and their retraction struts go in, these are followed by the main gear doors and the wheels. At the front the nose gear leg and its retraction strut are added along with the nose well bay door. To finish off the model a variety of small airframe fittings such as pitot tubes, nav lights blade antennas are added. If the canopy is to be posed open then the strut to open it needs to be fixed in to the frame in the middle of the canopy. Pylons can be added. A wide array of stores are provided with this kit, however most of them wont be used. Having seen pictures of this aircraft from the Tigermeet it carries only an AIM-9L on the left wingtip and an AIM-9X on the left outer, with only a captive AMRAAM on the right outer pylon; this being in addition to the two tanks. Revel dont provide an AIM-9X in this kit The instructions show the mid wing pylon being attached but these were not loaded on the Tigermeet aircraft. Decals A new sheet of decals from Cartograf (so no issues there!) provides a single colourful option of a Turkish Air Force aircraft from the NATO Tigermeet of 2014. This aircraft being from the 192nd Sqn. Conclusion This is a good tool from Revell and despite its age and many re-releases over the years the moulds seem to be holding up very well, the addition of a Tigermeet scheme is very welcome, though a little bit more research from Revell as to the configuration of the actual aircraft would have been nice. Again modellers will need to look at picture of the real thing to get it 100% accurate. Overall recommended. Revell model kits are available from all good toy and model retailers. C.15M EF-18M Hornet 15-28 Spanish Airforce Ejercito del Aire 25 years of Hornets at Ala-15 Zaragoza air base Quien ose paga Hasegawa 1/48 Modelmaker decals I saw this very same jet at Airpower 19, unfortunately only static... but still impressiv paint scheme! need to search for my old photos! credits to : https://mypics.at/blog/airpower-fotos.html Modelmaker is producing decals for some of the greater schemes out there, check them out! the kit itself is in my stash, the box rather battered, contents fine though fortunately! might add the one or other aftermarket set after going through my boxes....
  5. NATO Tigermeet 60th Anniversary Gift Set (05671) 1/72 Revell NATO Tigers has historically been active since RAF 74 Sqn reformed in the early 1960s and they were in touch with the then USAF 79TFS at RAF Woodbridge. This initial meeting of Squadrons would lead to the first Tiger Meet in 1962 with eight Squadrons being invited. These meets have continued every year all over Europe involving many different Units and Aircraft. They all in some way employ tiger markings, some subtle, and some not so! A full history of Tigermeets can be found here. This boxing from Revell celebrates Tigermeets 60th Anniversary with both an F-16 and Tornado in a double boxing supplied with paints and glue. F-16 Here Revell have re-released their own tool kit which traces it's history back to 2000. Up first the cockpit is built up. The 3 part seat is made up and the pilot added of you want to. The cockpit is added into the top fuselage insert. At the front of the fuselage the main engine intake is assembled and joined on, and the main gear bays go in. The fuselage sections can then be assembled, and at the rear the exhaust nozzle is also added. Having seen pictures of this aircraft from the Tigermeet they dont carry much to them The Tornado This is Revell's own kit again, this is a nice kit with recessed panel lines and rivet details that are are beautifully restrained. The undercarriage legs feature hydraulic lines and the landing gear bays are just as nice. Construction begins with the four-part ejector seats. As is the case with the rest of the cockpit, these are excellent and make resin replacements a luxury. Revell provide decals for the instrument panels, but to be honest the raised detail on these parts is so nice that I would imagine many modellers will choose not to use them. The nose cone is one of the two (very) minor issues with this kit, as it doesn’t quite capture the shape of the real thing. It is slightly too pointed, although it looks convincing enough from most angles. As is the case with most kits of variable geometry aircraft, Revell have engineered the kit in such a way as to make the wings and horizontal stabilisers moveable once the kit is complete. Having built my Revell Tornado in this way, I can vouch that the system works well, although the moveable pylons are quite fiddly. Painting the model will certainly be easier with the wings fixed in place. Once the wings and tail planes are in place, the rear fuselage sub-assembly is complete and can be added to the forward fuselage. The rest of the build is fairly straightforward. The multi-part intakes are very nice, but will benefit from some blanking off otherwise it will be possible to see through to the back of the fuselage. Airbrakes can also be posed open or closed and, in keeping with the rest of the kit, are beautifully detailed. The undercarriage is also very nice, although the nose gear leg is a little too long (the second of the two minor issues with the kit) giving the aircraft a slight nose-up attitude. This can be fixed fairly easily though. Decals A new sheet of decals from Cartograf (so no issues there!) provides a single option for each aircraft. For the F-16 it is 31 Sqn Belgian Air Force, seen at the 2009 Tigermeet designed by Daco. For the Tornado it is for or a Tornado IDS painted in a commemorative scheme designed by Jörg Wingens for the 50th anniversary of AG51 and Tigermeet 2009, these decals designed by Syhart Decal. Conclusion These are both goo tool kits from Revell and despite thier age and many re-releases over the years the moulds seem to be holding up very well, the addition of a Tigermeet boxing is a good one. Again modellers will need to look at picture of the real thing to get it 100% accurate. Overall recommended. Revell model kits are available from all good toy and model retailers. 6. Hello all, At last I have succeeded to complete one of my WIP out of ongoing dozens of them and I would like to present this build here in the "Ready For Inspection" section. I have used my own decal artwork on an old restored Monogram kit. I enjoyed much during this project. hope you will like this build too. Thank you for viewing and any comment welcomed: You can find the "Work In Progress" here: Serkan
  7. Hi guys here is my Hasegawa F-16 from the Royal Netherlands Airforce as it participated in the NATO Tigermeet held at Fairford in 1991. I have build it for the F-16 STGB here at Britmodeller. Hope you like it. NATO Tigermeet 1991 Fairford UK F-16A Royal Netherlands Airforce 313 squadron Hasegawa 1/48 kit with Quickboost ejection seat, wheel doors, Aires exhaust nozzle, and from Master the pitot tube, AOA probes and static dischargers. Build thread can be found here Erik
  8. Back to my more traditional 1/48 and 1/72 GB pair, I bagged this Yellow monster! Not sure if I will attempt the Tiger Stripes....especially the Belgium version, which are quite difficult to replicate....there is a aftermarket decal set available. The Canadian version seems more straightforward....watch this space.... Should I bottle it, I got this set of old FROG decals, not sure how good they will be....there does seem to be a lack of extra decals in both scales, apart from DACO, which in my view are a bit pricey? Any other ideas/options welcome! fancied the worn Danish look, but be hard to replicate in 1/72..... \
  9. Hi guys, My first ever WIP on Britmodeller! I was in the building process of a F-16 when I discovered there was F-16 groupbuild in progress. Although I was quite a bit underway Rich decided I still could participate! So here it goes: The chosen F-16 is one of my home country's airforce, the Koninklijke Luchtmacht. In 1991 the Tigermeet was held at Fairford and "we" had 2 similar F-16 with the special tiger tail, J-004 and J-012. Both block 15 OCU's I was 9 at the time but they made quite a impression on me when I saw one of them thunder the runway at Twenthe AFB. Unfortunately J-012 crashed some 2 years later in to the North Sea after engine failure.. The chosen kit is the well known Hasegawa 1/48 F-16. This one is V103, which comes with the Tigermeet decals: I made my fist Hasegawa F-16 last year, a block 40 big mouth of the Bahraini airforce: For my Dutch F-16 I will use some aftermarket stuff such a P&W nozzle and Aces II seat from Aires, wheel doors from Quickboost, AOA probes, pitot tube and static dischargers from Master, a small cockpit and engine cover PE set and early wheels from Eduard. The progress so far: Not really a big fan of PE but it looks quite nice, one day I want to try a full resin cockpit... Normally a hell of job to get the inlet seamless but I will use FOD cover, just as it had on Fairford as can be seen on the box cover. A small but important detail which is often forgotten, the hole where a fabric FOD cover is attached to. Hasegawa want you to use the left panel but for a block 15 F-16 this is not correct, unfortunately they only supply one type in this box so I had to remove one from a F-16C box in the stash. Same goes for the ECS exhaust, all F-16's build from the factory as block 15 received the newer type exhaust. Hasegawa want you to use the early type, can not understand this because when looking at the box cover photo the later type is clearly visible. Lowered the flaperons a bit as it gives a nice touch. Also this has the old style launchers, which is correct for 1991 I think. So there it is, my first WIP on Britmodeller! Erik
  10. Hi all and this is my latest finish, Revell's 1/72 F-16 from the 'Tigermeet 09' boxing. Full WIP is here but to recap: Kit: Revell 04691 Scale: 1/72 Paints: Halfords primer, Revell acrylics, Future, Flory Models wash. Decals: From the kit Extras: None, just seatbelts from Tamiya tape If you're in Dublin next weekend, this (and plenty of better-built models ) will be on display at the IPMS Ireland National Show. All the best, Dermot
  11. HI all, Just thought I would share this one that's been on my workbench for the past few weeks but I never got around to posting here...an OOB build of Revell's F-16 Tigermeet '09 Box Contents.. The big decal sheet that doesn't quite fit inside the box!! (note the bend in it) Started with the cockpit and apart from seatbelts, all OOB. Drybrushed the panels instead of using the kit decals.. This kit really falls together nicely, just the odd area to watch out for the fit.. Simple one colour paint scheme of Gunship Grey applied with a brush (first coat) And the underside masked up for the light grey bit.. Started the decal work on the drop tanks, to see how they worked. Really nicely printed by Daco and settled down lovely with some MicroSol.. And then on to the airframe! Did I say the decals were lovely? Well, they are but they're oversized for the kit and needed endless trimming and re-fitting to get them to work. And MicroSol for the curves.. Underneath pic... And with the doors removed... And how she looked the other night....the tail decal was a bit of a bear to fit More updates tonight hopefully! Thanks for looking. Dermot
  12. Some time ago I bought a unboxed Rafale from Ebay for a pittance, not sure if it ever had any decals or I lost 'em. But to save wasting a kit I ended up buying some after market decals from Syhart(via Hannants). This is probably false economy as the decals cost about 3 times what I paid for kit , but anyway .......... The kits not bad actually with plenty of detail and goes together well. Decals sre superb and you could actualy build three examples from the decals supplied..........obviously I went for the one with the flashy tailfin(although you only get 2000ltr tanks with the kit which were not used on this example at Tigermeet, so some slight artistic licence there). Some of the stencils are like dust specks in this scale and a bit superfluous. Didn't bother with the missiles(as yet) Colour is a 50:50 mix of Vallejo MA 114 and 46, with a coating of Vallejo satin varnish(a bit on the glossy side I reckon) wash was lamp black oil paint and white spirit. Now all I need is someone to say "Is it 1/32" LOL All positive critique welcome Cheers, Saddler
  13. Hello, Viper Tigermeet Tmota 2005, decals Twobobs, ladder and photoetched Eduard
  14. The problem with putting off a project for 20 years is that when you get around to it, it can be too late. I bought the DACO deacls for this model over 20 years ago but only now got around to using them. Unfortunately they had badly degraded resulting in epic silvering. I completed the project anyway and its not too noticable in daylight, though terrible under artificial light. Depressingly not one of my best as its one of my all time favorite schemes! Any comments for suggestions welcome John
  15. Hello, bought the Revell (Monogram) F/A-18C Hornet is the new Swiss Airforce boxing recently, with very nice decals by the way! BUT, I want to backdate-update, whatever! it to a fairly modern Spanish Airforce C.15 Hornet: that's what I am starting with: quite a lot cleanup done: a little thick but very nice and shiny transparencies: looking like a hornet ! the stabilators need a reinforcement: the will be positionable with a metal tube and rod: cockpit parts look quite nice for OOB, sot too sure if the seat is the correct one... the nozzles look quite nice, maybe a bit short and rounded... any aftermarket recommended for the old Monogram kit? any critical issues I) should be aware of? thanks for your input! Regards, Werner
  16. well another one finished, built out of the box as there's not room in the box for me to build it ha ha the kit went together very well and the decals went down nicely and behaved very well, i used Daco's strong setting solution and a hair-dryer to get them to conform. Anyway enough waffle and on with some photo's taken with a galaxy note 3 for ease of uploading. Ill take some proper photo's on the dslr outside later. And a size comparison with the Mig31 that's in the paint shop at the moment I don't know about you lot but I feel my modelling has got markedly better this past six months since I reverted back to 72 scale, The builds don't get bogged down as much as in larger scales.
