  1. Hi folks! Whilst browsing through my now fairly extensive P-80, etc. and F-94 derivatives collection, it suddenly dawned on me that I did not have a single T-33 trainer in the whole works. I had built a few, many years ago, from Heller, Hasegawa, and I think maybe even Airfix, but these had all been sold off anon. What to do? Just so happens that I had a newer Platz T-33 in the stash, so I figured, what the heck, a quicky build, keep the mojo up, etc. After all, how hard could it be to build a T-33 model? Little did I realize how prophetic those thoughts were to be..... But I digress. Let's start at the beginning, with the makin's as they say. First up, the kit, as well as a couple of resin F-94 seats from the stash, as lack of seat detail is one of the very few knocks on the kit: Here are the front end parts, the fuselage halves, the IP's, the cockpit, etc. Here they are all shown having been painted FS 36231 Dark Gull Grey, as was the custom sometime beginning around 1953: Above right, the rear end parts, a tailpipe and two fuselage halves. The front wheel well and 3 grams of lead are glued to the fuselage halves before assembly: Above left, the cut-in-half fishing sinker is shown, along with my new favorite glue for dissimilar materials, Loctite Super Glue. Much like my former favorite, Loctite Go2. It's thick enough to hold tiny parts like gear doors and pitot tubes until they quickly dry, and has a great little pin-point tip for precise application, and well as q quarter-turn lid, which seals so well that despite using around half of my first ever bottle, it has yet to clog! I usually scuff the inside of the fuselage to give the glue more grip, and I always use this or Formula 560 canopy glue for these tasks. In the past, I have depended up other glues, such as thin CA, etc., which has sometimes led to disaster later. Epoxies would work, but take longer to dry. This model is unique in that ALL the join lines, etc. have been engineered to fit virtually perfectly together, not the least of which are the intake inlets shown below, which actually snap into place, necessitating only the tiniest amount of liquid glue to hold them into place. However, before adding the inlets, one must glue the little boundary layer fences (teeth side in) into the squarish cutouts provided in the intakes: Above center, a very interesting item to be added after the front fuselage halves are joined is the round bulkhead pointed to by the arrow. While it acts to support the lower fuselage/wing area, it is interesting that there are two shaped holes in the bulkhead. More on that later. Above right, the assembled front fuselage half. I just used the kit-supplied decals for the side consoles and IP's as they provide enough details in this scale for my purposes. Scale detailing fans could easily do much more, if it matters to them. However, again please note the extremely good fit of the components, and note THE TOTAL LACK of any filler whatsoever! Well, that's it for this time. Back after I finish the T-33 Twin Tail I've been working on in the other posts... Ed

  3. Hi everyone, My next project will be a GWH 1/48 T-33 in a scheme similar to below image. The plan is to practice the faded dayglo look, so this is the challenge. The goal is to achieve similar effects to a posting here on britmodeller from a while back, although this will be a hard act to follow. I will give it a shot nonetheless. I am referring to this build: https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235050709-mrc-gallery-sikorsky-hh-34g-148-german-navy/&tab=comments#comment-3266318 I will be using the GWH kit. The kit appears very detailed, but as far as aftermarket additions go, I have ordered some PE seat belts for the ejection seats (none present) and a publication with a decal sheet for the RNeAF scheme. Could not locate a DutchDecal sheet for a 1/48 T-33, so I am trying out below and hope they are of good quality. At least it appears to have some of the additional SB-side fuselage stencilling present on the Dutch machines. Printed in the different scales, there should be a 1/48 decal sheet in the publication (fingers crossed, it's in the post): That's all for now. Thanks for watching.
  4. Hi, Please find my latest completion, the 1/48 GWH T-33 in RNLAF markings. For those interested....... Below is the link to the WIP thread, discussing the build. Made some picks with canopy open and canopy closed. Hope you like it. Just wondering what 50's/60's Cold War subjects are still missing from the collection............ Hunter, Meteor....?😉 Thanks for watching, Regards, Rob
  5. Special Hobby is to release a 1/32nd Lockheed T-33 T-Bird kit (rebox Czech Model kit http://www.hyperscale.com/2010/reviews/kits/czech3203reviewbg_1.htm). The first boxing subject will be the T-33 over Europe. The decals are said in design. More details soon. 6. This is the 1/48th Academy "U.S. Air Force" T-33A kit which was recently released as a "special edition with limited availability". I wanted something which matched my interests that I could build OOB fairly quickly and the box artwork of a 318th FIS T-Bird in ADC grey out of McChord AFB just worked for me The kit has alternative decals for a CT-133 flown by the Heavy Metal Jet Team back in 2010. Starting with a classic quarter view: On the plus side the kit fits together quite nicely, just a little filler needed on the wing section / fuselage underside join, all other parts fitted well with just a little sanding needed in places. The decals also went on very well indeed although I am a bit embarrassed that the photos show the 'stretch' on the nose. This was intended as a quick build to help my mojo, it seems to take me years to finish anything so to do this in four months was not bad going. The ADC Grey was Model Master Aircraft Gray and this sprayed on very well using my relatively new H&S Ultra air brush. I didn't worry too much about detail because I seem to get bogged down and then lose heart so I did not detail the cockpit at all, also for some reason the rear seat developed a rightward lean! The left air intake isn't quite right either What is a first for me is I tried to apply a home-made wash to bring out the panel lines. This was not entirely a success however it did emphasize the rivets so not too upset. It also helped to dirty up the aircraft which is sort of good, however all the photos I have seen of the 318th FIS T-Birds show them as very well kept indeed with no staining or dirt at all! Last photo, this is the opposite side: Cost me £13.99 from Basingstoke MZ, enjoyed putting her together, learned a lot and my model making mojo much improved as a result Michael
