Hi, After seeing this elegant fighter with its rugged landing gear during Frisian Flag 2022, I had to build one. It is the Dassault Rafale M26 van Flottille 12F “ Les Lascars”. The kit is from Revell with decals from Syhart. The Thales Areos pod is from RetrokiT. For the gray paint I used Gunze H306. For the lighter parts I mixed it with H338. Hope you like it. Best regards, Tjeerd

Second in my 'clearing the decks build log' (the first of which went back on the shelf) is this 1/48 Rafale in probably my favourite Rafale special scheme, which has been sitting on my shelf of doom for around a year. It's the Hobbyboss kit along with Syhart decals. The kit itself is pretty decent though I did have minor trouble aligning the landing gear and refuelling probe, the former due to somewhat crude moulding and the latter because it's default position is a little off and needed some correction. The Syhart decals however were beautiful. Really thin and lay flat very easily but you have to be quick because they stick very quickly on a glossy surface. Aligning them all was a bit nervy! The top side artwork was made up of 12 decals but once that was completed it was pretty plain sailing, though I did manage to misalign one of the tail artworks parts ho hum. I painted the model with Mr. Hobby Aqueous and lightly weathered it with an oil pinwash. The experts will notice the Mica missiles are the incorrect versions - they should be IR's but I didn't have any.. Also, the airframe modifications needed to correctly portray this aircraft have not been done. I've never been one for absolute accuracy! Anyway, the pictures - I hope you enjoy them. Note the canopy is not permanently attached Thanks for looking!

Dassault Rafale B No.336 / 113-IK of EC 1/91 ‘Gascogne’, Armee de L’air Saint-Dizier, 2009. Hobbyboss kit with excellent Syhart decals (Sheet 72-915). Based on one of the aircraft that attended Yeovilton Air Day in 2009 (though without the live MICA and SCALP-EG missiles!) Aircrew came from the Hasegawa F-16 kit. I used them to show an ‘engines running’ configuration so that I could leave the foreplanes horizontal which helps to give the Rafale its good looks. There’s lots of detail on production standard Rafale Bs that needs careful study of photos – I probably haven’t got it all right, but things like navigation light positions on the wingtip missile rails, chaff & flare dispensers, radio antennas, etc were modified from the kit configuration. I can really recommend that Syhart decal sheet if you want to find out about Rafales

Dassault Rafale M – 11F Aeronavale Landivisiau, Brittany, 2015 1/72 Heller kit updated to current version – Syhart decals This one started life as a 15 year old Heller kit. Thanks to the superb Syhart decal sheet No 72-915 ‘Rafale B/C/M Standard Markings’ I was able to rescribe and update the kit. This was a bigger task than expected (as usual!) and included the addition of all sensors, ECM, chaff/flare dispensers, etc. Pylons and drop tanks came from the Hobbyboss Rafale B kit which was on the workbench at the same time. I must admit I didn’t add ALL the stencils provided by Syhart – I could only take so much of minute grey stencils on grey camo – but they’re all there on the sheet if you have the inclination and patience.
