This is another in a series of ‘60’s drag super stock race cars which I’ve enjoyed building lately, I guess in an effort to revisit my happy childhood growing up near the drag strips of Southern California. This kit is the Moebius 1/25 ‘65 Plymouth Belvedere with the 426 Hemi V8 and a manual 4 speed (rare) and represent’s super stock racer Butch Leal’s “California Flash”. I airbrushed the red base using a Ford color , “Calypso Coral”, supplied by Scalefinishes. Originally I thought of masking and spraying both the red and white but decided instead to try using the super large white area decals provided in the kit. Amazingly, they were relatively easy to handle and lay down and, most important, not much of any red bleed-thru. Additions to the kit parts included Fireball Holley resin carbs, Detail Master aluminum funnels, tach, carb linkage, seat belts and ignition wiring and scratch built fuel lines and fuel filters.
I have a few more versions of these Moebius super stock Plymouths in my stash and will be much more inclined now to use the large area decals they come with and save hour of tedious masking.
Cheers,
John
