Here is one of my latest builds, the old Monogram Super Sabre, in the colours of the 308th TFS in Vietnam. I used Caracal decals for this build, which were very good. Airbrushed with Vallejo acrylics. Kind regards, Gerben

This is my ESCI Super Sabre in 1/48th scale. It's not the best model kit ever produced.. In fact, there are lots of inaccuracies, but still I enjoyed this build, especially finishing in the colours of the Danisch Airforce, which gives a lot of chances for weathering. I used an ejection seat from the spares box, since the original seat from ESCI is a joke. Also I made a new pitot tube from brass tubing. The ladder is from a Monogram kit, as well as the Bullpup missile. I read that Danish Huns were Bullpup compatible, so I decided to use one. The wing fences were cut out of evergreen, and only yesterday did I read that Danish aircraft didn't have them.. Well, here are the pictures: Kind regards, Gerben

This is the ESCI F-100D, which is an old kit but still a very good one; Scalemates says it was first released in 1982, with this boxing dating from 1985. I’ve used some Eduard F-100D details (intended for the Italeri kit), Aires wheels, jet pipe and exhaust. The Esci cockpit is very basic but the Eduard etch and a little plastic card helped a lot. I was debating about dropping the leading edge slats until the superb Blackbird models replacement wing set came along and made the whole job a lot simpler! I cut the tabs off the elevators and attached some metal rod to position them at a more typical on-the-ground angle, and extended the intake inside with some paper and plastic card. The paints are Vallejo metallics, the national markings are from the kit (behaving surprisingly well despite their age) and the individual aircraft and squadron markings from Modeldecal sheet 69. I’m pretty pleased with this one.

Recently completed this Italeri 1/72 kit & got it done just in time for our local club competition. I've always been very fond of the USAFE jet aircraft from the mid 50's to the late 60's with all the colours & especially in relation to all their local bases in the UK. The plan is to slowly add to the collection of aircraft already built that reflects aircraft based at Wethersfield, Shepherds grove, Lakenheath & the Twin Bases, maybe Bruntingthorpe & Sculthorpe as well. Sometimes wish I had been born a few years earlier! This is the Italeri F-100F which overall is a nice kit, but the cockpit details are minimal & if you look close enough don't resemble the real thing. So I added a new centre section & console & added some plasticard to support the reasonable decals present in the kit. I could have ordered a new resin cockpit, but tried to keep most of this build free of aftermarket gubbins. Also in reference to some online images of the ejection seats I added new straps & painted them accordingly. For ejection seat straps I always slice up strips from the Swann & Morton blade packets as it can be twisted & keeps its shape. Painted with Vallejo Metal Color & some Mig acrylics. F-100F 56-3893 79th TFS 20th FW Woodbridge Suffolk 1958 There will be another "F" coming in the shape of the Trumpeter kit which has decals for 56-3730 which was based at Wethersfield. Thats my first build up there, one I did a year a go - an Italeri Super Sabre. Was fun enough build to get me hooked again after a really long pause. I thought It would be fun to re-live that build with my current knowledge - but obviously with a twist, not gonna do the exact same build, but rather a Danish double seater. Here's the scheme. As far as I know, Danish Super Sabres were not NMF - but painted with aluminium paint, a rather dull and grey aluminium paint. Looking at the pics, first I thought they were painted ADC Grey as it was so grey. I can already imagine that bright red will look great against the aluminium and the heat stained rear end! Whats in the box. Simple stuff, only two sprues and the clear parts. Decals look still ok. Scheme and decals. This is the 1999 boxing of the kit. Details are okay, little bit soft maybe but considering this is a 1982 tooling, not bad at all. Rather simple clear parts. I had hoped to display the canopy open, but no luck. There are few things I'm hoping to do with this build - and one is scratchbuilding an intake tube. That is not a good look as it ends so sudden. Always a problem with these nose-intake planes. Not a big one - but still one that bugs me. No idea how I am gonna do it yet, but let's find out, shall we? Other thing is that this build will be titled 'SPRING' and it will be displayed on a simple display base. Not a diorama but something to liven up the build a bit. This build will be followed by three other builds fitting the overall theme, but more about them once/if we get there!

Here is a an Italeri F100 D (1:72) straight out of the box finished as EC 2/11 Vosges in Toul 1975. Many of these French F-100 had a rather beat up appearance particularly those stationed in Djibouti. The colours were hand mixed and represent a best guess for the French equivalent SEA colours. Its my third F100 and there is another two in the stash so I reckon it will be either a Turkish or Taiwan up next or maybe a Wild Weasel. Like the plane and the kit despites its age is a pleasure to build and is in terms of over all accuracy far better than the Trumpeter kit. Regards Brian

Hello, I'm currently building the Italeri 1/72 F-100F and realy struggling to find images of one of the decal options. I was specifically attracted by this colour scheme: The only references I found are this image from wikipedia... ...and this artwork from the squadron book 'F-100 Super Sabre in Color'. First I wonder why Italeri locates it in Lybia. Could it be a temporary re-deployment from Woodbrige? Then I would like to know where FW-893 did come from: I think the decal artist must have been inspired by some image or (hope not...) a profile artwork but can't really find anything. Finally, it seems that I will need to add a very thin black trim to the yellow flashes that Italeri forgot 🤬 Ok, it won't be easy and my enthusiasm is somewhat vanishing so I want at least a reassurement that I'm trying to reproduce as best as I can a REAL subject! Thanks for your help

Evening folks - my love of the Hun continues with another Trumpy kit and this time the F100D in NMF. I should call this project 'back from the brink of disaster'! I decided to do this in NMF - something I am not very good at and experimented a bit to get the result I wanted. I was feeling pretty pleased with myself as the build went like a dream, the paint finish was better than hoped and the decals were a breeze. Then I got lazy and in a fit of stupidity I sprayed the model with Tamiya Clear from a rattle can and whoops the paint starting cracking! Anyway AngstROM kindly donated some replacement decals and after a few days of gently sanding respraying this is the result. Overall I am pleased with it although the original paint work around the rear end was better first time around. So I used Halfords Moondust Silver for the main colour with Alclad Stainless Steel, Burnt Iron, and Airframe Aluminium over the top to create a weathered look. The rear end is a mix of Alclads. These Trumpeter kits are execellent and I have the F100c to do and am waiting some decals from TwoBobs before I get cracking. Photos are done with flash so when I get the chance I will do some better ones Chris

Afternoon folks - this is the Trumpeter 1:48 F100F Super Sabre and was a very enjoyable kit to build. I chose the SEA scheme of 614th Tactical Fighter Squadron, 35th Tactical Fighter Wing, Phan Rang, Vietnam 1968. This is largely OOB with Eduard interior detail. I used Mr Color paints and Alcald shades on the rear end and had some debate with myself as to whether I should have done it all the around. In the end I liked it as it was and decided not to tinker with it for fear of making a hash of it! A big thank you to Spooky56 who kindly sent me some replacement decals following a slight cock up - much appreciated! I enjoyed doing this one so much I have bought two other Trumpeter F100's! Ok so I am building the Trumpeter 1:48 F100F Super Sabre and am getting confused with the weapons! I am doing the SEA camo version and apart from the drop tanks I am not sure what the normal weapons would have been? There is a limited choice with the kit - Aim 9b, ALQ31 and practice bombs. Any advice would be appreciated Thanks Chris

Hello everyone again. After my fourth build since before time began, the Airfix F-51 in NMF ( http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234939145-172-f-51-mustang-fourth-build-since-holiday/#entry1300965 ), I decided to do another NMF with stars and bars, because they're pretty, and I was on a roll with the NMF. So I chose the overly popular 'Triple Zilch' F-100D kit, made mostly straight out of the Italeri box that I got for £5 in a sale. This build very nearly started my own new shelf of doooooooom! Mess up after mess up. Then a general feeling that in no way did the out of kit decals match any image of the Triple Zilch I'd seen any where. Real life interfering a little too much. A 'crash landing' shortly after attaching the under carriage. Who knew how many extra kit bits you can create when that happens?! Loads of little things that drained any enthusiasm out of it and in the end I just wanted it to be finished.. please... stop... Just.. Be.. Finished. But I gritted my teeth and carried on and here it is, the very nearly a shelf of doom kit, 1/72 Italeri F-100D Super Sabre. Additions included: Master Pitot tube: I just love these things. Rob Taurus Vac formed Canopy: I thought I'd give this a try as they're cheap as chips. Not being used to vac form I messed up the front of the canopy but did better on the main. Whilst building an Otaki F-100D (awful kit, but I'm getting there) I bought a pre-painted 1:144 F-100D made by a company called F-Toys for the drop tanks, refuelling probe and pitot tube. I was looking at it one day and thought that it was too much of a waste to bin it and that I'd put it to some use, so I decided to convert it to the early production F-100A with the short tail. I had to trim the wing to remove the flaps and scribe the panel lines in that area, I also separated and opened up the canopy and detailed the cockpit. The tail was cut down and reprofiled, the intake was opened up and a new pitot made. After I sprayed the primer, I painted random panels in various colours. The slightly changed the tone of the silver, easy to see in daylight but the camera didn't pick it up until I used the flash. Once I had stripped the paint off it was easy to disassemble as it's basically a snap fit model. I had fun making this one and can't wait until I finish the 100D (in RDAF markings) to display them side by side.- 1 reply

Kit Italeri 1:72. Paint Humbrol, Tamiya & Xtracolour enamels, Tamiya acrylics, Alclad lacquers. Decals Xtradecal & Micro/SuperScale Extras None North American F-100D Super Sabre 48th Tactical Fighter Wing RAF Lakenheath 1961. Cannot recall when I enjoyed a project so much. To me the ‘Huns’, Delta Dagger’s, Voodoo’s and Thunderjets/ Thunderstreaks of the early fifties to early 1960’s simply epitomised the ‘Cold War’ from the American perspective. Colourful as Peacocks and (usually) as big as cow-sheds. As ever, thanks for taking the time to look. I’ll do my best to answer any questions and/or comments, and please, please bare-in-mind this is NOT a natural metal finish, it’s painted aluminium !!! (Thanks). Ian

Hello all, Kia Ora (as the locals say). In the middle of a couple of long projects (1:48 Spit IX, Hurri IIc & RF-4), none of which I've not posted here, because I forgot and like a lot of modellers with 'long-range' projects on the bench, I'm taking a quick divert into a 'quick OoB build just to keep the creative juices flowing. So here's my 'diversion': Using the sweet Italeri 1:72 F-100 - secured without packaging nor decals from eBay for £3.00 just before we left for NZ, and the excellent Xtradecal sheet 72-116 I hope to finish it as FW- 319 as you see in the photo from 'Colour & Markings'. I've made a start by first spraying the rear section with Tamiya glossy black acrylic straight from the rattle-can: I've also sprayed the cockpit 'bath' and the insides (dk. gull grey). Will probably be able to get the fuselage buttoned-up this evening (our time). Photo's tomorrow, hopefully. Total time taken so far: +/-70mins. More soon, thanks for looking. Ian

Hi all, This is the Trumpeter F100 super sabre, nearly ready for decals which will be from Extra decal, the load will be drop tanks, napalm , and dumb bombs not finished by far yet, so please be nice, and all commenbts most welcome as always Malc.
