Fresh from the Air Fighting Development Unit, RAF, Duxford here is Revell's Spitfire Mk.IIa. Not a bad build and I had some issues, mostly of my own making. Read the WiP thread to find out more...I have left out a lot of weathering and muck. As a non-combative aircraft, it would have avoided much of that. Most of the paints are Vallejo or Vallejo Air except for the topside which are both Tamiya--XF-81 and -82. The decals are a slight mix since the fuselage decals were so out of register. I cannibalized the roundels from a Mk.V Revell kit and they worked out fine. In any case...here it is! Thanks! --John

As I continue with my Spitfire A-Go-Go, I turn away from the foreign-based, post-war craft (all that garlic and spices!)to something more OOB and closer to home for the Spitfire. The Revell 1/72nd scale Spitfire looks good. I think it is a new tool and we have Eduard and other companies to thank for making Revell and Airfix stand up and make better kits with much better detail and accuracy. This is a good example. The kit comes with only one option, which is oddly comforting. So I will be building the Mk.IIa from the Air Fighting Development Unit, RAF, Duxford (the plans say 'Doxford'), England, April 1942. The detail looks good all around with very little flash. I have already primed the sprues. wee bit of flash on the pedals... A bit of flash around the rudder trim and I will take care removing it! Large rivets. Is this accurate on the Mk.IIa? Wing tips are supplied...I think they use this kit for their Mk.V series as well. The kit is supplied with blunt tips to attach if one wishes to build that kit. The decals look ok except for the fuselage roundels which are terribly out of register. I will have to find a replacement. They dropped the ball here, I think. I'll start in on her this evening... --John

Another of 2019's builds which has helped fill my top shelf with Spitfires as good liqueur should. 9 of 12 using Airfix 1/72 Mk. I/II/Va kit, Others are Hasegawa's Mk.VIII & IX kits. Additions include PE seat belts and 3D Kits Spitfire Mk.II conversion kit. This provided new seat, control coulomb, coffman starter bulge and Rotol spinner/propeller. Painted with Mr Surfacer 1000 and Mr Color lacquers for all else. Decals are a mix of kit insignia, 3D Kits nose insignia, name and serial number. I replaced the sky lettering with Micro Decals, these are my go to for code letters. Also used same makers dull red decals for gun port covers. They're super thin, had super adherence and don't bleed through the underlying colours. Panel wash with acrylic Windsor and Newton, streaks using AK interactive streaking mediums. Chipping using Tamiya silver lacquer with sponge. Thanks for looking.

Hello Guys, This will be my first entry into the "Battle of Britain 75th Anniversary Group Build" - the Revell 1/32 Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IIa. I plan to accompany this Spitfire with the Eduard 1/32 Messerschmitt BF109E-3. Introduction to the kit: The Box Art: The Box Contents The Box Contains 3 clear bags of light grey sprues; 5 in one bag, and 4 in each of the two other bags making a total of 13 light grey sprues. There is another small clear bag containing 3 small clear sprues. There is a 12 page black and white assembly/painting and decaling instruction booklet that includes two options of paint scheme and squadron markings, and lastly, a sheet of cartograf decals; Sprues A + B: Sprues C + D + D- NO, that's not a mistake, but it is one by Revell of Germany!! I have two sprue D's which are the portside upper wing sections and no Sprue E which is the starboard side upper wing section! Aaaarrrrrggggghhhh!!! I went to Revell's website to order the missing sprue E and it can take up to 8 weeks to be delivered from Germany!!!!!????!!!! Bloody hell!! Sprue F Sprue G Sprue Q Sprue T Sprue S (x2) Sprue H (x2) Clear Sprues I, R + U A 12 page black and white Assembly/Painting and Decaling Instruction Booklet Front Page 1 and Back Page 12 Pages 2 + 3 Pages 4 + 5 Page 6 + 7 Pages 8 + 9 Pages 10 + 11 The Decal Sheet The molded parts are very crisp and clean with zero flash apart from a couple of little areas. The parts have nice fine recessed panel lines and lots of rivet details. The clear molded parts are very clear with zero aberrations except for one side of the sliding canopy which is slightly "glazed". The decals are excellent looking with zero carrier film beyond the decal edges and good register. The black and white instruction booklet appears to be clear and concise, but the two paint and decal options would be better in color. The color call outs are in Revell colors only. I will make a final report when the build is complete indicating any issues that I come across. In the meantime, thanks for taking a look and I hope you enjoy following along with my build. In the meantime, if you'd like to see my YouTube "in-Box-Review" video for this kit, here is the link: https://youtu.be/SWiiFXlU6zA Let the build begin!! Cheers Martin

Some time ago I got from a polish friend the last book for my collection about Polish Figting Teams in WWII. It is the first edition of "Polish Wings Nr.6" with title "Spitfire Mk.I/II". also too I have just like the other issues in my collection it is a very nice and interesting publication about first version of Spitfire in polish figting teams. my historie template for this model: At second sources I used the polish KAGERO publication 15027: Polish Spitfires with 8 version off free decals include. Very interesting are many Spitfires with special letter-coder variants in form of additionaly names from girlfriend or/ and wifes!
