Well, having been given the green light by the Powers That Be, I feel a bit like Nikolai Polikarpov himself, building his 'DH9', not under license, completely stolen, reverse-engineered, etc... So it's summer 1922...Stalin has just been named General Secretary of the Communist Party...Lenin is Chairman of the Council of the People's Commissars...Kalinin is Chairman of the Central Executive Committee of the Congress of Soviets...Trotsky declines to be Lenin's second-in-command (the beginning of the end for him)...the creation of the USSR is a mere 4-5 months away. Here's what was flying about in the skies... Here's what I will build. I like this profile. It's got all the neat slogans, the red stars, and the Cyrillic number font...'White 5', before they used those designations. And it's aluminum dope. Easy paint job. The sprue looks very nice. Excellent detail, no flash. No PE (thank the gods). There will be drilling happening here, no doubt about that. Lots of rigging. Nice looking decal set. Plenty of cool leftovers. I'll get into it presently. --John

OK...finito...Time to get cracking on something else, namely the Duck over in the Maritime Patrol GB. I might also start another Bf-109 and/or Spitfire. Although, now that I have begun work in the darkroom with my winter group (23 of them)...no, I will build as much as I can, when I can. This was a fun kit, if a little nerve-wracking at times and it is good to see it done and out of the stash. Some of the plastic is so thinly moulded that it threatens to break; some of the exhaust pipes needed are not supplied; some of the plastic parts are as small as photo-etch...But it built into a nice representation of this very famous aircraft. I'll get around tp fashioning some more exhausts later...Trust me, there were no leftover parts save for the skis. Thanks for all the support! -John

My model building may seem manic to some. In fact, it is keeping me from smoking, the cessation of which is the hardest thing I have ever done. I stopped in mid-August and, although I fell off the wagon recently, have renewed my goal to stop this filthy habit. So it is back to the bench I go and I think I have a good one. This has been in the stash for a few years so I am excited to do more to it than gaze at the incredibly tiny parts, moulded very thin, sigh, and put it back on the shelf. Time to jump in! Plus...I am thinking of my fellows in the upcoming NATO/WarPac GB and just wish to say, hail Comrades-we fly for Mother Russia and the Proletariat! I will be building the aircraft on the box art because I like all those slogans. Simple as that. Here are some pictures to whet the appetite... The instructions are on a single sheet of paper. Ha! The main sprue is slightly warped. I checked out the fuselage to see if it had been effected. Not so much. i'll get into it in a couple of hours. Looks like the engine first. --John
