This build was kind of impromptu. It happened there was an Airfix competition in November and I decided to submit the plane. The initial intention was a RSAF skyvan but it became a Pink skyvan doing skydiving; an idea that evolved as the build progressed. Ground crews in the stash volunteered to skydive and were given masking tape for straps and styrene sheet for parachute pack. Helmet was made from liquid putty. This skyvan build checked one of those model kits that I have wanted to build in my “nostalgia” list. Future build would be the 1/32 RSAF F5E, Airfix 1/48 Hunter (again in RSAF colours), Airfix Bloodhound and possibly the Strikemaster. The model did not disappoint me; I brought back 2 1/48 Airfix kits from the competition. Build link Van in the sky

I am very delighted that my dream plane was in the mailbox today. Thanks to Busnproplinerfan’s kindness to sell me his skyvan from his stash. This skyvan is an old kit released in 1974 but the moulded plastic is beautiful and the rivets are nicely done. Even the pilots included are moulded with details. I am indebted to build this skyvan to show the final result, so here’s the start of another in progress build.

Hello All, Well I ran out of time on the Lesser-Built Airforces GB with my Nepalese Skyvan from the Airfix kit. I am trying to build this one. I got to here before my last work trip: Nepal has been in the headlines recently due to the earthquake it suffered. It turns out that my nephew, who was volunteering in an Indian orphanage in his gap year, had taken time out to go trekking in Nepal during the earthquake! He is now out of Nepal after spending some time in a refugee camp. Because the Nepal insignia and flag have quite a lot of white in them, I was wondering how to do the decals. I have some decal paper that can be white or clear, depending on whether you seal it with water-based or oil-based varnish. If I added the decal after painting the green, it would require careful cutting out and the white would look greenish because it isn't particularly opaque. So I decided to apply the decal before painting, to the white plastic, and add some background colour to the decal so I could cut a simple decal shape and blend the green into the background colour: The first lot didn't have enough white background round the star when printed, so I added a wider outline. So what was the rookie mistake? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? This: The decals on the right fin run the other way round! I have got the decals on now and I'm in the process of painting the green. If anyone would like a pile of spare green-backed home-made Nepalese decals, you know who to ask... Thanks for looking, Adrian
