  1. Hi everyone, My next project will be a GWH 1/48 T-33 in a scheme similar to below image. The plan is to practice the faded dayglo look, so this is the challenge. The goal is to achieve similar effects to a posting here on britmodeller from a while back, although this will be a hard act to follow. I will give it a shot nonetheless. I am referring to this build: https://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/235050709-mrc-gallery-sikorsky-hh-34g-148-german-navy/&tab=comments#comment-3266318 I will be using the GWH kit. The kit appears very detailed, but as far as aftermarket additions go, I have ordered some PE seat belts for the ejection seats (none present) and a publication with a decal sheet for the RNeAF scheme. Could not locate a DutchDecal sheet for a 1/48 T-33, so I am trying out below and hope they are of good quality. At least it appears to have some of the additional SB-side fuselage stencilling present on the Dutch machines. Printed in the different scales, there should be a 1/48 decal sheet in the publication (fingers crossed, it's in the post): That's all for now. Thanks for watching.
  2. Hi, Please find my latest completion, the 1/48 GWH T-33 in RNLAF markings. For those interested....... Below is the link to the WIP thread, discussing the build. Made some picks with canopy open and canopy closed. Hope you like it. Just wondering what 50's/60's Cold War subjects are still missing from the collection............ Hunter, Meteor....? Thanks for watching, Regards, Rob
  3. Sword is to re-release its 1/72nd Shooting Star kit - ref. SW72105 - RF-80C "over Korea" - ref. SW72106 - P-80A/B Sources: http://swordmodels.cz/cs/home/123-sw72105-rf-80a-over-korea.html http://swordmodels.cz/cs/home/124-sw72106-p-80ab-.html V.P.
  4. If I may, this seems like a good time to build this. What do you mean, 'tidy your room'? That's time I could spend building. Nice bits. A fair bit for flash, some of it a bit thick, such as that around the fin. But, lovely resin wheel well and seat. Plastic is cut:
  5. Naval T-Birds (7012) 1:72 Iliad Design Iliad have sent us some of their latest releases, this one being for T-33 trainers used by the US Navy & Marine Corps. The Navy designated the T-33 the TO-2 which changed to the TV-2, now this is nt to be confused with the Navalised T-33 the T2V SeaStar The USN & USMC used the TV-2 in the training role, as hacks; and also as colourful drone controllers. Arriving in a ziplok bag, each set has a set of profiles as the cover page, with the decal sheet visible on the flipside so you can readily see what you're buying with the flick of a wrist. The printing is up to their usual standard, having good registration, colour density and sharpness, with a thin carrier film cropped close to the printed areas. The instructions are printed next to the profiles, with relevant points marked with arrows, and on the reverse are overhead views with the same arrowed captions. The sheet provides decals for 3 USN, and 2 USMC schemes, and its good to see national insignia and NAVY/MARINE codes provided for all examples as well as the intake warnings where needed. The schemes are; 1. Early USN Example in NMF with rear orange training band from NAS Glenview. 2. Drone controller from Guided Missile Group 1 mid 1951. 3. Marine Air Sqn 32 aircraft in NMF. 4. Naval Air Training Unit of NAS Glynco, overall Grey FS 16440. 5. USMC training aircraft from MCAS El Tora Oct 1961. White & Red/Orange. Scroll down to find the sheet Review sample courtesy of
  6. Seen at the 55th All Japan Model Hobby Show 2015, (Pit Road stand?) a new variant from the Great Wall Hobby 1/48th Eagle kit, the McDonnell Douglas F-15I "Ra'am" - ref. L4816. Topic here: http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234989178-55th-all-japan-model-hobby-show/ And behind in the picture... Some T-33 T-Bird/Shooting Star CADs. Next 1/48th GWH kit or family of kits? To be followed. Source: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.1206169876076618.1073741833.275708712456077&type=3 V.P.

  8. Based at Suwon (K-13) during the Korean War in 1952, "Evil Eye Fleagle" was a Lockheed F-80C Shooting Star serial 49-547 assigned to the 36th FBS (Fighter Bomber Squadron) under the 8th FBG (Fighter Bomber Group). The Lockheed Shooting Star was a first generation jet and as the Korean war progressed the type struggled against the MiG-15 however performed sterling service in the bomber role in a very harsh environment. This is the HobbyBoss 1/48th kit of the F-80C, it can be built as "Evil Eye Fleagle" or the equally well-known "Saggin Dragon". I chose the first aircraft as it was supposed to be a quick build and I didn't have the blue paint needed for "Saggin Dragon". If I recall correctly the HobbyBoss kit was slated for the inaccurately sized air intakes. MJW Models were offering the kit at a very reasonable price so I decided to give it a try. It went together very well and needed a minimum of filler which is a real bonus for me anyways! The decals also went on well however the kit instructions are a little bit vague. I added Misawa wing-tip tanks which are correct for 1952 however as far as I can tell they didn't carry the red stripes as shown in the instructions. I wanted to depict a worn and well-used Korean theatre aircraft. Currently I don't have a functioning airbrush so I decided to use a rattle can of Halfords Aluminium which went on really well. Detail painting was done by using Vallejo Model-Color acrylics and again these went on well. I then mixed some dark grey paint with enamel thinners and brushed this over the entire aircraft to give a "dirty" look then sealed it all with a matt Humbrol spray. The only thing I am not happy with is the canopy painting, I used Vallejo Silver then Airfix 11 acrylic silver but it didn't go on very well though hopefully I can get away with it by claiming it is "Korean weathering" and wear and tear! So was it worth it? Yes, I now have an in-theatre Korean workhorse and I love this old first generation jet. Some learning for the next time, maybe the RF-80 kit next? Michael
  9. Hi all, Seeking a bit of advice from anyone who knows. I want to build an F-80 in 1/72 and the choice that I have is either the Airfix kit or to bodge an Airfix nose on to a Sword RF-80. Having matched the two up their are very clear differences, apart from the obvious (RF- nose ). Any ideas which is best to go for? I am tempted to think the Airfix is better but I'd bow to the collective knowledge out there. Thanks. Martin
  10. Well 'ere 'tis Airfix F80 Shooting star, very average but its kinda finished...was going to put it on a wire stalk over a picture of the 5o something parallel but meh....maybe later and anyway the sloppy link is not present!
  11. Hey Everyone! Here's my latest video, a simple film that shows how to mask some straightforward shapes on a model aircraft. It's not groundbreaking as such, but will show you how I do things for Model Airplane International projects and in particular, the very new Great Wall Hobby T-33 Shooting Star, which I will show you once complete in a week or so's time. I hope that you like it! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2tyki3A5zE
  12. Hey all Soon I'm going to be building the Hobby Boss 1/48 F-80C Shooting Star as "Evil Eye Fleagle" with the big shark mouth as seen over Korea. The kit provides the "P-38 Style" and "Misawa" wing tip tanks as well as the P-51 looking underwing tanks. The question I have is; did the F-80 have a third style of wing tip tank? Looking I pictures I see tanks that are slimmer than the "P-38" style, but shorter than the "Misawa" style. These are the "P-38" Style Tanks: These are the "Misawa" style tanks: And here are the ones in question: Could these be some sort of shortened version of the Misawa tanks? If anyone could shed some light on this, I would be most appreciated. Regards ANS
  13. As a spinoff of my "[more] accurate T-33" attempt in the "Lesser Built Air Forces" group build, I'm also going to be converting Hobbycraft T-33 and probably Monogram F-80 parts to make the first prototype, now enshrined in the National Air & Space Museum. It'll probably be a week or two before things really start happening, but I think I've got the answers I needed (and haven't thought of the next questions yet!) I'm looking forward to this one, and I've had some great help already, most notably Tommy Thomason (see post 3 below, and see his link) so far, but others to join the roll of honour. Oops, that includes you, Troy! Next on the roll of honour is Pip Moss (don't know if he comes 'round here) who is working on some Lockheed logos for me to have printed (custom decal). bob p.s. I'll do a better introduction later...
  14. OMG, I'm doing a plane and it's part of our Group Saturday Build Club so I'll only be working on it for 4 hours every other Saturday so, this should be interesting as there are technically only 4 more Build Saturdays between now and the end of this GB, that's 16 hours (because if they happen to clash with Club Night, also a Saturday, we don't have them!). A few of the Club members get together to build without interruption from family etc and it goes quite well. Now, some will say the kit is wrong, it needs this or that but this will be strictly 'out the box' Early construction seems to be going well at least there is sustenance Well, this how far I've got in the first 4 hours - not bad considering it's the first aircraft built by me in over 30 years (with guidance and advice from SleeperService) This will now be consigned to the kit box until Saturday 17th May when I shall continue with the cockpit construction and I start throwing some paint around. That part is a peculiarity of Aircraft building - painting the inside before gluing it together
  15. 1/48th Lockheed F-80C Shooting Star by HobbyBoss in 2013 - catalogue ref.81725 and also - but not in the new catalogue - a F-80A - ref.81723 and a RF-80A - ref.81724(?) Source: http://scalemodels.ru/modules/news/img_5748_1358082281_fe7282025aafa40f1fabea15ab64034f79f0190e.jpg.html V.P.
  16. There's a new batch of Hobby Boss kits now available. In 1/48 there's a Recce version of the P-80 Shooting Star, the F-84F Thunderstreak, and an A6-A Intruder. In 1/72 there's an easy build A6M2 Zero. If anyone wants any of them, let me know, we'll have the Shooting Star and Thunderstreak in stock tomorrow and can get more in for next week, is more people want them. thanks Mike
