  1. Dear fellow Britmodellers, here's my 1/72 Hasegawa B-26B Marauder "Big Hairy Bird" of 599th Bomb Squadron, 397th Bomb Group. Photographs by Wolfgang Rabel. I added CMK landing gear doors, Quickboost gun packs, True Details wheels and Scale Aircraft Conversions metal landing gear. The colorful nose art is provided as a large-scale decal, but I opted to paint the yellow area. The eyes, mouth, nose and horns were cut from the decal sheet and applied seperately. I also painted the yellow stripe on the fin. The markings are a mix of kit's own and Airfix (A04015A), which are better printed. I used Tamiya, Mr.Hobby and Alclad lacquers for the surface colors. Thank you for your interest! Roman
  2. Hello and thanks for your interest, this is my 1/72 Hasegawa B-24J, representing "The Shack" of 458th Bomb Group, 754th Squadron. The model was built using aftermarket parts from Eduard, CMK, Aires, True Details, Scale Aircraft Conversions and Decals from Sky Models Italy. This beast fought me for over 18 months. Most work went into the paint job. It was painted with Alclad lacquers, which require a perfectly smooth surface preparation. Due to the massive weight (90g) I chose to use metal landing gear from Scale Aircraft Conversions. Photographs by Wolfgang Rabel of IGM Cars & Bikes. ... and here is how it all started.... lots of aftermarket items, lots of motivation and optimism! Cockpit interior: Interior detailling underway: Fuselage halves before closing up: Cockpit again: A lot of weight went into the foward area of the fuselage to prevent a tail-sitter: Model primed Gloss Black (Tamiya14) in preparation for Alclad paints: Paint issues all along the way, of course all my own fault: Making the mask for the code letter "E": Final bits and pieces.... Glad I finished this, even if it took some time and a lot of Patience. But have a look here - there's already a "roll-out" queue on my workbench: Thanks for lookin'. See you next time! Best wishes from Vienna Roman
  3. Hello all This is my first completion in almost 6 months after a barren summer dominated by looking after the kids followed by a short-term loss of building mojo. Finally got my backside in gear to finish this Lightning as a Christmas present for my father in law, who used to paint Lightnings with 5 Squadron based at RAF Binbrook in the late 60s and early 70s. I wanted to do the model in a 5 squadron scheme like he would have worked on, so had to depart from my usual out of the box method. Did a bit of research online, and chose this pic to base mine on: Dipped into the aftermarket for the required 5 Squadron decals (thanks to Gary West for pointing me in the direction of the Model Alliance ones), and also pushed the boat out and went for a SAC undercarriage set, and a Montex mask for the canopy. Been wanting to try a natural metal finish for a while, so played around a bit with how to try and get some variation in the metal tones. I pre-shaded different bits of the airframe in white, grey and black to see if that would make any difference when a single shade of aluminium (Tamiya XF16) went on over the top. There are some subtle variations to the naked eye, but I'm not sure my photos really pick this up. I picked out selected panels and control surfaces in Tamiya XF56 to break it up some more. Kept the weathering light, with just an oil paint wash to lightly accent panel lines. I know there are some errors and omissions in it, but am hopeful it is a reasonable representation of an F6 from that era. Overall very happy with how it turned out (hope the old boy will be too). Thanks for looking Adam
  4. Ok here we go with another GB. Was a bit hard to choose what to build for this one, but after much thought I decided to go with a common theme that I like Nightfighters. And seeing that all my nightfighters so far are twin engine the Tigercat seemed the logical choice. So I’ll be building Italeri 1/48th F-7F 3N Tigercat, this will almost be straight out of the box but …………. will be adding Quick Boost Undercarriage Cover and Gun Barrels sets, and Scale Aircraft Conversions Landing Gear set. I have always liked the look of this aircraft but had just not gotten around to building one, so here we go, this should be fun….and hopefully a simple build. Not too sure what the colour scheme will be, have a bit of time to think about it. First post of the group!
