Well it's been a while, (had a bit of modelling mojo loss), but finally i've finished my Sandtrooper, the construction of this build couldn't have been simpler, And has been covered by other folk on here , for example Andy Moore, whose work has been an inspiration whilst working on the various Bandai stuff i've got stashed. The whole figure was assembled in sub sections where it was possible and then sprayed with a couple of coats of Vallejo SATIN varnish, weathering was mainly MiG engine oil for the darker coloured sand and smudges, and MiG Gulf war Sand weathering powders for the lighter tones, The supplied Decals were used for the various helmet markings, and the pauldron was painted with Vallejo Model Air 'aged white'. Base was covered in Tamiya surface texture 'paint' to which fine sand was added with copious amounts of watered down PVA glue, then painted in various sand/desert colours, and a few Model Builder grass tufts added for a bit of variety. He was finished in a style to replicate the Sandtrooper named as Davin Felth...'Look Sir !..Droids'. anyhoo, onto the pics. Comments appreciated..

So being a Star Wars fan and inspired by the many great builds here, I treated myself to this guy earlier this year. While it didn't take that long to build, the weathering put me off finishing it. But I decided to just try my best and see how it turned out. First, a coat of Satin to take the gloss shine off the armour (thanks AndyRM101 & Mike) Next up was a coat of Flory Models Grime wash.. Then tried some pastels which were a mix of sand, white and brown. And more pastel added to his gear. For the shoulder pauldron, I masked that and repainted it orange. Then a flat coat on that and some white pastel to try and fade it. And he's done. I still need to improve the base as it looks too plain. I had planned to use the big Lewis Gun blaster but couldn't get a pose I liked with it. So just the standard-issue E11 for this fella! Thanks for looking! Cheers, Dermot

Paint & weathering advice - Bandai Sandtrooper
Dermo245 posted a topic in Science Fiction Discussion
So this fella' arrived last night and I can't wait to get started on it soon! I haven't build a Bandai kit before but have followed and been inspired by the many great builds I've seen here. I had a couple of newbie questions that I was hoping fellow BM'ers could help me with... Should I glue the parts or is the push-fit process strong enough to keep it all together? Do I need to seal the factory paint-finish with Klear before I start weathering? Or is it ok to weather right on top of it? I've read about the plastic being fragile with/attacked by certain products - I mostly use acrylics and water-based so would I be ok with those? Any advice on a final finish for this guy - Matt, Satin or Gloss? Sorry for all the queries, thanks in advance! Cheers, Dermot
