  1. Sherman VC Firefly, ‘Spitfire’, A Squadron, East Riding Yeomanry, 27th Armoured Brigade This is the Ryefield Model built pretty much straight out of the box. It has been painted with MRP-349 SCC No.15 Olive Drab and weathered with various enamel products, mostly from the Ammo Mig range, and oil paints. This is my first attempt using these enamel products, I normally use pigment powders, but I think this will be my preferred choice from now on. The stowage is from the Black Dog range plus some tarps that I made from epoxy putty. These were mostly painted with various mixes of Life Color paints to try to add some variation. I personally don't find the resin stowage very convincing, I'm not entirely sure why, but I think it's because they were cast as one big lump including the straps and ropes which means that there are areas that are solid when they shouldn't be, if that makes sense. Anyway next time I think I will try to make my own. And finally this is the reference photo that I based my model on, although mine has lost the wading gear and gained some bedrolls. The markings for 'Spitfire' are not included in the kit but are available from Star Decals ( 35-862 27th Armoured Brigade #3.) However, I wasn't convinced by the shade of blue they had used so I resorted to creating my own masks and spraying the markings on. I actually started this build over a year ago as part of the M3/M4 Medium Tank STGB organised by @PlaStix, and despite it taking so long it really was an enjoyable build, Ryefield model have made an excellent job of this kit. There is a Work in Progress of this build. Wayne
  2. After getting my eye back into the game with my AS-90 and also a PzH2000 I thought it was time for me to break out a model that's been sat in the stash for a while but that I've not been brave enough to start until now. Stumbled upon RFM kits in a local shop who just seems to get stuff in at random and I've since picked up, but not started, a Challenger 2, Challenger 2 TES, Sherman Firefly and Leopard 2A6. So I suppose I'd better actually get one started. I decided on the Common or Garden Challenger 2. In my humble opinion the best looking modern MBT, and I will die on that hill. And an excuse to finally have a model with the Royal Tank Regiment Chinese Eye which just tickles me as a bit of nice British eccentricity. This also marks my first adventure away from the more usual kit manufacturers, apart from a Zvezda Tu-160 a few years ago, so I'm climbing out of the Revell, Tamiya and Trumpeter pond. So far I've only got a few steps done as work and other things have got in the way but I've managed to get the main parts of the lower hull together. Very impressed with the detail, slightly less impressed by the huge lumps of plastic from the pin ejectors that needed removing and filing down to get the parts to fit together. But, its all experience. Also, please excuse the background, my workspace is the coffee table... Complete with pin ejector detritus on the right... Ooooh, those tow hooks could do with the quick run over with a blade to tidy that flash... Time to keep on going and try to forget about the RFM track links in my future...
  3. Morning all.......kicking off another project after hitting a brickwall as regards all other projects, as they are at the painting stage .......needed to build something for a change. I've had this in the stash for some time and felt it needed some attention. I also picked up the voyage set, even though the kit itself come's with a really nice set of PE. Inside the box I have to say the sharpness of the moulding is excellent....really crisp and equal to Tamiya in all way's other than some location tab's etc, slightly oversized for the location hole.....but once you get some liquid on them they soften and with a push locate alright. Anyway....off to finish the front interior....maybe post it this afternoon. All the best Regards Simon.
  4. First completion of the year is in the books! This model was actually started in the spring of 2020 but it was relegated to the Shelf of Doom until I pulled it out after the start of the New Year and finished building it. It's almost all OOB save for the Masterclub tracks and Aber metal barrel. It was a fun build that allowed me to try some new techniques. Comments and criticism welcomed as always!
  5. Hi All Started this while letting the Comet varnish harden, very impressive good mouldings no flash, Just one small part missing rear towing lug. did not take too long to get this far which surprised me, when assembling suspension don’t follow the instructions fully, after the first part you have to then prise the bottom open to get the wheels in, I struggle with CA on the Pe parts get it everywhere!, bit of work needed to get the bogies to fit to hull it’s very tight. missing lug on right, I made a handle for the rear doors as I broke it, and the lump with the pe was not very clear how it mounted. cheers Mark getting the bug big time lol 😂
  6. Just finished this Ryefield Sherman Firefly and I must say it is a superb model but very fiddly to build, especially with old fat fingers! paint is Lifecolor with some very small amounts of oil weathering. depicted as grenadier Guard Sherman Holland 1944. It will eventually form part of a larger diorama with a universal (bren) carrier, some crew and infantry hopefully

  10. Gosh I had almost forgotten about this one (he secretly wishes he had!! ) and only remembered when I saw the threads go up. I’m not doing well with my AFV builds at the moment, am batting 1 from 3, not good at all. I probably should have gone for something normal and safe but this vehicle really caught my interest. I had hoped to be building a resin model of her but I got piped at the post on evilBay (ok I sort of forgot about it), but then one of these showed up at a ridiculous price so I couldn’t help myself. The box is completely packed with bits, I pulled them all out to look at and now I can’t get the top to go on properly again! It’ll be a OOB build with no extras…..ok new tracks from Friulmodel (when I can remember where I put them), the kit ones look diabolical to build! I’m going to try these masks as I really like this camo pattern, will be interesting to see how I go. I really don’t know how I’m going to go with this build as I already have a pretty full schedule, but it’ll be something I can work on in between other build….I mean how hard can it be??? I didn't know that there were only a few BMF bolts that held the top on these, and they were sort of successful at what they could do.....really blow things up!
  11. My proposal is to build two Tiger I's in 1943. Both carried turret number 123. These are the kits that I'll use. A quick view of the plastic ...
