So where to put this as a topic? A “What If” build? 🤔 As a subject I found it very interesting. The actual aircraft was, in effect, the last Spitfire before the jet age. Supermarine we’re trying to get as much out of the Spit as they could. Officially 12 Seafang were built and delivered to the Fleet Air Arm, but there are no records showing they ever flew. The Admiralty did not believe that the Seafang had a significant advantage over the Seafire and preferred Hawker’s Sea Fury, so the order for further Seafangs was cancelled. All was not lost for Supermarine though as lessons learned and some of the Seafangs design features were incorporated into the Attacker. So, the Trumpeter kit. It comes with 3 sets of markings. 1st the markings of the actual Seafang in these back and white pictures. 2nd I guess, a “what if” livery of the classic Fleet Air Arm colours with the Suez yellow and black stripes. Lastly, Spanish Air force. No airframe still exists which makes it awkward to detail the model kit, but Trumpeter still manages to get little details wrong like adding 2 camera portholes when there were only 1. And not really an option to have the canopy open (well, not with my current skills) as no rails or anything to sit the canopy on in the open position. That all being said, the airframe and overall aircraft looks great.

Hello. My very first time posting on here, so go gentle with me. Like so many model makers I have accrued quite the stash over the years and in mine was a poorly started Airfix Hellcat I had bought back in the 80’s. Some of the parts were missing, but I love the Fleet Air Arm livery on the Hellcat in the box art. I happen to find an Academy Hellcat I had bought in the early 90’s so I thought I’d put the two together. Hello everyone! I am a new member and loved the healthy forum here so I simply had to join! i am going to build a model warship for the first time and wanted to document it as it will help me keep track and I spire to keep going but most importantly a reference for others to inspire. I laugh and joke with my best buddy about how funny it was when we were 14 to smash out a model in a weekend. the results were simply terrible but we definitely had our fun whilst at it! over time one matures and takes a deeper intrest into the history of the models that peaked our modeling tastebuds. one also appreciates the time and effort put into models and is extremely rewarding when it is backed up with so thi g as rich as the history too. When I was young(er) I enjoyed being a part of the Marine Cadet Detachment of the Sea Cadet corps TS Wizard (training ship) in Wood Green. It was my first introduction to the Royal Navy and inevitably inspired a deeper into rest into the history of it and more broadly the navies it dealt with. with this I have decided to build a model of HMS Wizard as it would require some proper research and holds a little place in my heart as it was the catalist for my love of naval history and engineering. Please follow this thread to witnes my maiden voyage into maritime modeling. commentry, experiences, pro tips and contructive criticism is advocated here to better the experience -
Well I can honestly say this has been one of the most enjoyable builds I've done in many years and I have stuck with this almost constantly without the usual distraction of another new kit arriving or loosing interest. Not quite the Out-of-Box build I'd intended, however the only extra I bought was an Eduard mask set for the windows, the rest of the changes were all scratchbuilt. Work-in-Progress thread here - http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234997923-airfix-seaking-hc4-almost-oob-build-fiddly-bits/ Airfix, well done on a great piece of work, a type sorely needing covered in 1/72 and I for one have another two of these, and two of the HAR.3's still to go! Alterations to the kit as follows:- - tape seat belts on all the seats, - additional cabin details including headset cords, sidewall linings, and emergency kit on the aft wall of the 'broom cupboard' - rotor head rebuilt with swash plate, pushrods and a representation of the folding rotor pipe work on the blades. - detailed the crew entry door with reinforcing angles, stiffeners and handrail assemblies, - underside cargo lifting slings and associated cables, and controls, - drilled out the lightening holes on the main door crew step and the IRCM mounts - added power cables to the IRCM boxes, - grab rail and additional support rods for the winch above the main door, - under nose antenna replaced with fine wire and cockpit side antenna fabricated from wire, - wire antenna along left fuselage made from fine mending thread. Couple of things I'm not too happy with:- - green tint to the upper cockpit windows is not pronounced enough, - the underside sling looks slightly under scale and could have been doing with slightly thicker wire for this, - overall finish is a bit too matt, looking at some of my In-progress pics it would have been better left slightly glossy (I'm NOT remarking that cockpit!!)
