  1. Hiya I have been wondering (and there has to be) if there are sites like for tanks that talk about all the different tank / modifications / ethos etc etc Like this but for planes.... https://tanks-encyclopedia.com/ If there is I have not found it as I have searched, but the I twrnwt is a ma-who-sive place and what I want is rather niche. Is there a place I could ask about this so that others can post their site recommendations? I like to read all about the model I'm making, the design, manufacture and use, also all the factual stuff about revision of design / timeline changes and such. There are some websites I lookup when I want photos, but they also do aircraft, but new additions to photographic database would be great. Thanks in advance!
  2. Hey. I came across this on Facebook - Modelarstwo KXS and the chap added rivets 1 by 1 using solder balls. It might seem a laborious process but the balls are cheap (about the £5-6 range) and they come in various sizes. I haven't used them myself, but I will order some from eBay and give them a go. I guess they have a multitude of uses, not just rivets, eyeballs, buttons etc and can be used across varying scales.. Just search 'solder balls'.
  3. Does anyone know where to find an accurate high resolution rivet blueprints of an Avro Lancaster B.III? I'll appreciate a link for a site (images) or a good book with that info to purchase... cheers Jorge
  4. Also from 2005, if I recall correctly the year I went back to the hobby after a hiatus. Nothing remarkable about the model, just a cozy flash-back. This little, boxy beauty, exhibiting the traditional Airfix rivet treat was a relaxing project. Fit wasn't great, flash was abundant, pieces exhibited stubborn warps, but, for some reason, it was a delight to build.
  5. Hi all, Very soon I intend to start my Trump F-105 which, as many will know, has a horrible scattering of rivet marks. I'd like to fill these. So what is best to use? Mr Surfacer? Standard prime Rib? I am an enamel user. As I see it I could paint the rows of rivet marks without touching the panel lines and then sand and polish. Would that work? thanks for your thoughts. Martin
  6. Morning all, I picked up this little gem of a kit for just over £4 from my LMS, and what a great purchase it was! The quality of the tooling itself is rather terrible- raised panel lines, no cockpit detail apart from some basic seats, poor wing-fuselage join, thick one-piece canopy and minimal level of overall external detail. But its redeeming features are So, I began by first of all cutting and dropping the flaps, positioning the elevator and ailerons and cutting the canopy into two pieces. Secondly modification was the cockpit, now this is quite literally what you get with the kit: (control columns modified slightly) I couldn't let that remain unaltered and so I started to add some detail: (note the compass in each cockpit) One or two coats of paint and gloss varnish later and it was completed: Airfix 1:72 De Havilland Chipmunk T.10 Notes: -Painted with Vallejo "Model Air" -Kit decals with a few from the spares box -Weathered with Vallejo "Moden Wash"- dark grey -Varnished with Alclad aqua gloss Well, that's it- thanks for having a look! Kind regards, Sam

    Rivets

What tool do you suggest for making rivets?
  9. I ordered a Trumpeter riveter and a Tamiya II Scriber. However the question is how much (if any) riveting should one add to a 1:48 Spit and if so, when and where. Lastly if one is going to add rivets is there any good source drawings available? I have looked at some reference photos the further away one gets of course the rivets become invisible, but the Spit was full of them as it was a stressed skin riveted over a frame. Well I hope that I have now opened an interesting topic, perhaps even a can of worms - when is detail, too much detail?
