Emailed Rising Decals asking if 72-045 1936: Britain Highest! Bristol 138A would ever be reprinted. Miroslav Kárník replied "yes, it is very probably, I will reprint this sheet during this year..." #17/2023 Besides all the US naval stuff by my dad, he decided to turn Japanese a bit. New Eduard kit, a bit over-engineered, lots of detail but also many small plastic and PE parts. Fuselage to wing fit had some tension and needed work. Engine mount is fragile and you have to pay attention for perfect alignement. When the model was already finished, had to remove the prop and some engine parts to get it centered in the cowl opening, sat too low before. Built it up first in Japanese livery with the kit Hinomarus and painting it with Tamiya XF-70 and -71, used Risig Decals for the rest of the markings and overpainted all with AK Real Color Flat White with the original markings still shining through lightly. Had been damaged by allied bomb attacks earlier. Brought back to flying condition, painted in the white "surrender" scheme and shipped back to New Zealand. The aircraft then was tested and compared to the Spitfire. In September 1943 the aircraft was struck off charge. The wing underwent an endurance test, the fuselage was shot at and the engine was sent away for evaluation. #9/2019 Here´s my dad´s last captured 109 for a while. Hasegawa kit with Rising Decals, Eduard seatbelts, plastic rods and lead wire for the brake lines, legs shortened about 2mm. This aircraft had additional cowl scoops like a G-2, so took some from the sparesbox. AK Real Color Air Mid-Stone and Gunze H314 FS35622 for the camo. It was repainted and used for training until a final crash in 1943 near Cairo. #8/2019 My dad´s newest rollout, continuing the captured aircraft theme. Eduard kit with Rising Decals, brake lines with plastic rods and lead wire, paints used from Tamiya, Gunze and AK Real Color (RLM78/79). This aircraft was originally "Black 14", assigned to 2.(H)/14, Aufklärungsgruppe 14, and equipped with a Rb50/30 camera. It was shot down on February 20th 1943 in Tunisia. After a belly landing it was captured by British troops and later given to the Americans. Members of the 79th FG restored it to flying condition, the camera was removed at some point and the hole covered with a panel. In November 1943 the aircraft was sent to Wright Field for tests and afterwards written off. #7/2019 Here´s my dad´s next "roundeled" 109. Hasegawa kit with Rising Decals, Eduard seatbelts, EZ Line for the antenna wires. Once again shortened the Hasegawa main legs for about 2mm. Gunze and Tamiya acrylics used, AML masks for the Erla zig-zag pattern. Looking at pics of the aircraft we couldn´t tell if it was fitted with a camera or not, my dad built it without one. The plane was captured in July 1943 on Sicily by 1 Sqn SAAF, tested and later most probably scrapped. Hasegawa kit with Rising Decals, plastic rods and lead wire for the brake lines, Eduard seatbelts, EZ Line for antenna wires, exhaust flame dampers are PE parts from the Eduard G-10 kit, Gunze, Tamiya, MRP and AK paints used. Shortened the main gear legs for about 2mm to make the aircraft look more realistic. As I already mentioned in the past, my dad wants to get rid of all the old Hasegawa 109s in our stash by building them, only a few are left now. He decided to use once again the Rising Decals sheet and build, besides the SAAF G-4, a former G-10 of NJG11 that was captured by Canadians of 401 Sqn RAF in April 1945. Here's my latest completion, peeps! It's the 1/72 Hasegawa A6M3 Model 22 kit, with markings from Rising Decals. It depicts an aircraft from the 331st Kokutai during the joint IJA/IJN attack on Calcutta in December 1943, hence the unusual paint scheme. Paints are Humbrol enamels throughout, H75 Bronze Green uppers, H168 Hemp lower surface plus tail and wing tip and H154 Insignia Yellow for the wing ID stripes. I used Humbrol Clear to gloss prior to the decals, then a final spray of Humbrol Satin varnish to dull it down. There's some weathering, but I decided to keep it minimal. I have to give thanks to Nick Millman for giving me some valuable advice on Zero colouring a few years back - thanks Nick! One under the flash: Comments welcome! Mike.

Flying Kiwis over the Pacific 1:72 Rising Decals The contribution of some commonwealth countries to the overall Effort in WWII can often be over looked, as was generally the British effort in the Pacific. The contribution in modelling circles has also been somewhat lacking. This new sheet from Rising Decals brings us decals for 7 different aircraft used by the Royal New Zealand forces. These are split between 2 Corsairs, 2 P-40s and 3 Dauntless. The printing looks great everything is in register, there is virtually no carrier film and the white looks dense enough that there should be no colour bleed through. The kill markings and nose art have the decals split between white backings and the markings to obtain the best results. The white stripes on the P-40s will need to be painted, or the modeller can use their own white decal strips. Burma Banshees 1:72 Rising Decals The P-40s flown by the 80th Fighter Group are immediately noticeable by the skulls on the nose.
